Always open up these video’s to see what could they possibly tell me that I don’t feel i already know. WOW. Went another level today and now I have to go buy some balls and start testing on my SKYTRAK. Once again thank you and keep up the great work. Recommendations for your level of service near Montana. Your level is 10+ on a 1-10 scale.

Your comment at the end of the video about the wedge grind and loft set up for gapping is important. I thought I could buy Vokey off the rack... 6 Vokey’s later with horrible chipping and then I finally was fit and found Ping Glides to be my best option. SS in 50, 54 and 58, bent to 59. Dramatic improvement in chipping and my scores.

I used to play Pro V1X but putted with a Pro V1 and found a huge difference in feel so play Pro V1’s now just because of that softer feel. Loving the content of late!

I just wanted to say that I love your channel. I have learned so much more about equipment, how angle of attack can affect spin, etc. I have a better understanding of the term “spin loft”. Some of the things y’all mention in your videos are very interesting and have helped me play better golf. Also, you have cleared some misconceptions in my head that I have heard from other people. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

what i do from 20-50 yards is same club (for me it's a 60°) open the face and stance and hit a knockdown pitch shot, while accelerating both body and swing through the finish with a hinge and hold method, the distance I wanna carry is changed in the setup and the forward momentum makes it easier to clip the ball clean with a more descending blow at the same time, increasing spin while decreasing launch, this let's me 1 hop and stop it from any pitching distance and if I am in the rough and can't spin it as much i shallow out my attack angle and get a very high launch to use the trajectory for stopping it fast. It's not the easiest shot to hit but I practiced a lot the year I picked it up and since then my short game has helped me secure a lot of birdies on Par 5s and short Par 4s. You can shave as much as 5° of launch with that technique as well as get almost a thousand RPM of extra spin with it which makes it even more controlable. I would love if you guys gave this type of shot a test and see if you can get the same kind of performance difference.
@cwones89046 жыл бұрын
Priceless, thank you, that’s what I call service! 🤓 Although there are a lot of other variables, it has confirmed to me that a spin loft of about 54 degrees and launch angle of around 30 degrees is the ‘magic’ combination.. 👍

I have 4 dozen Q-Star Tour golf balls in the basement. After a buy 3 and get one free promo they came out to be about $22 a dozen. They have been a great value ball that performs for me. Glad it performed well in your test or I would have been doubting playing them.

Thanks for this, TXG. Can you please do a ball testing with putting? I definitely am noticing different roll patterns btw balls and wanted confirmation. And Matt, as always, makes the testing so much more educational. Great job guys!

Ian, Matt, Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insights with us. It’s great to be able to separate fact from fiction. Ball fitting sounds like another interesting topic. I notice the difference in balls the most when putting. Pro V1 is my favorite. I’m wondering how the new Chrome Soft ball preforms
@adolfozayas33596 жыл бұрын
great video again. makes total sense what you guess are saying. Price point DOES make a difference for me. I actually just purchase a bucket of Used but good condition TM Lethals. The Lethals is a great ball for me when it first came out and was lucky to find them. Part of my testing is based what i know did well for me in the past or present.

Q Star Tour has been my ball of choice since it first came out. For me, on course, I found it to have similar tee-to-green performance as the Chrome Soft, but a little more control around the greens. And again, it's really hard to beat the price point. Srixon have a home run with that ball, but I digress. Awesome vid, keep up the great content, Ian!

The reason why there is more spin a groove down on the face is that is where the most loft is statistically with the edge being there. So I believe the trick is the have a good AOA whilst maintaining loft to guarentee a high spin loft. There is a trade off however with getting that compression on the ball thus more grab and more spin which is why the speed is important.

With all the great content you Lads are producing sincerely hope you reap the rewards in your day/day business. As I've found, one of these videos where the more times I watch it, the more I learn. Interesting comment about changing wedges every 5 years. With distance gained from strong lofted modern irons, I'm thinking 8 & 9's will be almost as essential as wedges for that approach to the green, so they spin/bite more than the other irons in the set and not just because of the loft. So would you ever fit shafts better suited to "distance" flight and shafts suited for that "short game" shot in a 4-9 set, or is it solely the iron head make up and where the weight is positioned that produces the difference?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Good question. A product like the True Temper AMT shafts (www.truetemper.com/products/dynamic-gold-amt/) are designed to give progressively higher launch as you go down the set which would help with stopping power in the long irons. A lot can also be accomplished with a detailed iron gapping session where we test every club and adjust lofts as needed to get the best performance.
@pchyen6 жыл бұрын
Hey guys, great video! Can you guys comment on lighter shafts in wedges vs irons in the same set (ie PX 6.0 wedge shafts vs PX 6.5 iron shaft in irons)? Thanks!
@westport14056 жыл бұрын
Ian,I have taken your advice and went to be fitted for 3 new wedges to replace the vokey I have had for the last 5 years.I have been steered away from the new vokeys as I am told that they are mast produced in China and not the same as the Japanese made ones the pros are using, and being fitted for the Cleveland. I note that you did not mention the shafts only the club head I would appreciate if you could discuss the different shafts, as he is suggesting that I should get a graphite wedge shaft, what would your opinion of the Titleist comment also is there specific wedge shafts and if so how do they differ from standard shafts?Fantastic channel and thoroughly enjoy all videos, your response would be very welcomed.RegardsDave

Gone through most of the major brand balls, looking for something better than the Titleist Pro V1. For my game, the V1 can not be beat for performance and consistency. It would have to be $100/dozen for me to consider a change. Too many gambles with other brands, only to be disappointed with some aspect. It's worth the top dollar to because I know what the ball is going to do every time (given I do my part, of course). I'm never surprised in a bad way with the V1. Plus, with the added durability the last couple of years, I rarely use more than one ball per round. Thanks for what you guys are doing.

I was hoping you would talk about bounce here. As amateurs we are told to have very little bounce on our wedges if course conditions are firm and dry or hard pan, maybe 6 or 7 degrees. Only have 10 to 12 degrees bounce if in soft sand or soft lush fairways. Some of your other videos seem to suggest otherwise. I know course conditions are different in Canada than south Texas in the summer but what do you suggest as a compromise? One general rule I follow that has helped is : never make a full swing with a wedge. If a three quarter swing won’t get it there use more club.

Great video again- I was wondering if hitting off the mat influences grind choices? Obviously AOA would be similar but hte interaction would be totally different. I'm heading to a wedge fit this weekend and wanted to catch your thoughts on it.

Ian, Matt, question for you; how important is it to match wedges with irons? I had a set of X2hot irons with A flex Recoil shafts and some Volkey wedges. I had some trouble with the transition during rounds
@albertofernandez-sanguino33736 жыл бұрын
Great video. However what about outdoor testing? Shouldn't that be part of a club fitting also? One other question. What grinds for which ground conditions? And why such amassive array of grinds? Years ago there were two, maybe three at most, with 46 to 52 one stamdard, grind, 54 ton56 another and finally 58 to 62 a completely different grind. Thanks

Hi Guys Late to the party as usual but every time I watch one of your videos its like i'd asked a question and youre answering it. Wouldve been useful to see Matts setup position as he seemed to have a big swing for 50 yds. Im current;ly playing a 58 degree (bunkers and close to the green) a 54 - my go to club for approach, and a 50 degree which honestly ive struggled with (all SM6 S grind), Ive got standard M1 irons and am thinking about bending the 50 degree to a 49 or 48 to fill the BIG gap (50 is 100-105, PW is 125 or 115 if i chole down). Love to hear (or better see) your thoughts - does bending a 50 degree work the same as buying a 48 degree sm6 off the peg?
@clubchampionmedia6 жыл бұрын
Just be aware that bending loft strong takes away bounce to the same degree
@WolumoDK6 жыл бұрын
noticed that many of the pro's (titleist pros to be exact ex. Thomas, Spieth, Scott) dont use their ironset PW, but instead are carrying 4 Vokeys - is there any deeper lying explanation to this, anything us club golfers could take notice off ?

There are some good balls out there but I think the tell tale was when Bob Parsons at PXG was trying to develop his own ball and after a while and a lot of cash he basically called it all off and was like we can't make a ball that beats Pro V. When the Go Daddy billionaire waved the white flag I think that was a strong statement....Rick Shiels had a video about that.....But Maybe the screws in balls don't work so well......lol
