I just recieved my medical records from FAA OKC, it took like 8 weeks for the big envelope to arrive !

I went through HELL to get my medical only because my A1C was 0.4% over the limit allowed. I had to deal with the FAA over SIX MONTHS while my A1C went down over 1.5% way into the normal range, within 3 weeks after the test. Everything else about my medical exam was perfect. 20/20 vision, no nerve damage, proper response times, I'm not insane, etc...(I'm 25 by the way, completely healthy was every so slightly type 2 diabetic but now it's completely gone). I'm going through all my aviation work in a university so I'll come out with a degree in it but the wait on my medical almost made me fail some classes if I didn't have proof of my dealings with the FAA. Tip for all of you if your medical is deferred to the FAA: Call whatever office you need to and ASK FOR WHATEVER PAPERWORK YOU NEED. Months of my time was spent sending everything piece-meal because they never told me what information to provide.

I'm am in the same boat. I am still waiting. it thought it had it all nope one price at a time. I almost lost my financial aid over taking so long. It is all worth it. I am with University program also. The job market is great now but man can it take forever today get all their proper stuff in there correct formats. It am not complaining there are a ton of people flying now that would not have 20 years ago.

You want to get a consult with the AME before filling out the online FAA form if you have history because if there is a problem with your medical history like in my case I have history from when I was a kid there is no records. I don't remember doctors names my parents are both passed on. I also have some odd medical issues that all my own doctors say there isn't any issues with yet the FAA may deny on all of that stuff because your dealing with someone who is in another state. Think of it this way you are dealing with a doctor who you can't speak with in person or on the phone. What they do is send letters and you respond with information, test results, and all that cost lot of money not something insurance will may for lot of times. The AME you deal with only responsible for the physical test after that your in the hands of a doctor who only corresponds by letter. Each letter will say if you don't get back to them in 60, or 90 days they will deny. If you get a deny then you can't fly light sport with a drivers license which is crazy. If you have medical history pay an AME for a consult if he says he can't issue a cert on the spot has to defer I would make sure he says 100% the FAA will issue. How much will the testing cost to get them to issue.

I filled out the Medexpress yesterday and am going to schedule a exam this week. I can't even take lessons 1 without it. Things might have changed a little .

You should be able to go through it up to your first solo, meaning you can't solo until you get your medical.

AME exam is cheap 100 bux if the FAA wants testing done could be thousands. It's all about current situation if you bumped your head 35 years ago when you were 10 years old on a skateboard the FAA will assume you might have a stroke any day and need MRI to confirm nothing wrong with your head. Medical insurance won't pay for things like that its all out of pocket.
