Terry Pratchett’s witch books do it for me: their ethics and humor and power are really inspiring.

I'm going through this myself. I'm still lighting a candle and incense every night to keep myself connected.

So true! We used to constantly talk about how life and spirituality are intertwined, but today they seem to be very much separated and emphasized. Here is the very witchy abnormal thing I do/did, let's shine a light on it and raise me on high for it. The point of spirituality is to live a better life in all ways, not just the time/place you put aside for your spirituality.

Lulls for me happen when I flip into focusing on something else I'm involved and passionate about like my karate practice. But most times it happens because I lack structure and purpose in my practice. I can design my own rituals but they never feel authentic enough. And other than expressing gratitude, I have no set goals to my practice. I think fiction is key for inspiration or a spontaneous ritual in the forest or reproducing rituals from books or visiting the local witchy store.

Structure is really important for me, too, and I love that you brought up Karate-that level of discipline was something I needed in my witchcraft. For me, that meant participating in a tradition that had guidelines and hierarchies already in place for learning purposes. Some people’s brains just work that way and benefit from those things! Others, not so much. I like that witchcraft gives us options for how to approach it!

@@drawingKenaz Sometimes I feel like karate or martial arts as a whole, although I haven't experienced them all, feel like a spiritual practice. There is a desire to be a better human, a discipline that changes you and gestures that ground you like a ritual and by that I mean katas. We even begin the class in a lotus pose, head bent in meditation before we start our drills and end in a circle sharing our thoughts about the class. Online you can find communities that swear by martial arts as a way of life and not just a practice. The line is blurry. For me, movement definitely helps my trance so my goal would be to somehow merge the two so it wouldn't feel like I'm neglecting one for the other.

Thank you for this. Sometimes over the past few years I feel that I either "done it all" in my practice. Or I am trying to find something "new" without knowing what the "new" is.

Reading Tolkien yet again can do it for me. In the Fellowship movie, the scene where Arwen confronts the Nazgul at the river Isen is particularly powerful (and inspiring.)

the thing that consistently put me back in the magical mood is watching shonen, specifically the ones set up in a supernatural universe like demon slayer. They are universes with specific rules and techniques that can be very inspiring for things like visualisation and meditation. Plus, I enjoy watching animes, it's very low effort, and I often end up hyperfixating on them anyway.

I absolutely appreciate this video, I’ve been through several of these periods in my life and all of these points you mention have helped me in one form or another. Love both of those book series they got me through a lot. In addition to shows like charmed. Love trying something new when I’m feeling stuck. Really helps. I find that lighting a candle, giving a new form of offering, or incense really helps me stay connected. I know one of the most helpful thing was was exploring a new form of divination and meditation. Really got me out of it. Hope you’re well. Many blessings.

I haven't read for 5 wks and stopped doing my tarot and crystal course. I can't get back on track, but the other day I.picked up.a beginners wicca book by kirsten riddle. I was quite amazed probably because it has lovely pictures. I have read some many books on wicca. And I thought I would be bored but I wasn't. So it was nice going back to the beginning of wicca, which I remembered alot. I.think I get overwhelmed with my new books as i wasn't a big reader. I know my anxiety and depression does interfere with my witchcraft.

I've went MONTHS without actively practicing before (i so this more often than id care to admit). However, I still manage put my intent out there and stir intentions into all my food and drinks. Sometimes I just feel like I don't count as witch, though. I just don't have the mental space to do anything else a majority of the time. :(

@@drawingKenaz I totally agree. I've been involved in martial arts for many years, as well as Wicca and ceremonial magick. I got burnt out with the original martial art I began with and began studying several other styles and it did wonders for my overall enjoyment of the arts. I love that you play guitar, especially AC/DC!

Heh. Practicing magic is not a job. Lol. Its not something that you have to do, whether youre in the mood for it or not. There should be no feeling of pressure or feeling like its a job or just endless work. Magic practice is not about that at all. Magic practice is about helping you to better survive and live a safe and good life. But to me personally magic is about play :). Magic is about having fun and playing with it, lol. That doesnt mean you have to or are required to practice it 24/ 7. There are other things you can do to have fun, im sure, lol. Read, write, draw, sing, dance, pick up a hobby and do it to relax and have fun :). Cook if you enjoy that. Play video games or watch tv. Or get together with friends and family or others and play a sport or activity. Magic is not a job. It is not required of you to practice and work on it with nothing to show for it. For me its about survival and protecting me and my own. But its also about having fun and playing with magic. Just like any hobby or activity, lol. No need to feel the pressure or stress of you gotta do it! You gotta do it! No. Practice magic to help you survive and stay alive and safe. But then practice magic to relax and de-stress you, to do it when you feel inspired and want to practice. If youre not inspired or want or need to practice magic, then you dont have to. Heh. Feel free to practice magic when you want to play and have fun, lol. Just like any other fun and relaxing activity. Lol. Work, in order to help you better survive. And play, in order to have fun :). Its not a job. Lol. The more enjoyable and fun it is, the more creative and inspired you can become. Lol. Egh, magic practice. And magic play 😉.
