Its been a few months now that I have found your channel and have caught a great number of your videos. Since then I have come to appreciate how you use your platform to shed light on and inspire deep thinking on the intersectionality of the craft, academia and life. This by far has become one of my favorite channels. I have found great joy and comfort exploring the material you present; the similarities and core values your tradition and practice share with my own tradition of Lukumi-Osha, my own personal practice and spirituality. Basically how you keep it real from all the "material" and "spiritual" aspects that you do! Thank you for your contribution!

Well, I am here for the new postings!!! For some time I have been looking at how "social determinants of health", "historical/ cultural traumas" and "mental health" impact the Lukumi community and practice. How the community has natural platforms that become perverted by initiates and non initiates as it pertains to their narcissistic and power and control proclivities. Fascinated by what is autonomy, freedom, Ori (one's higher self); the principles of Iwa Pele vs. Iwa Buru ie. personal spirituality and practice. The overall Lukumi concept of the "crown" and our "rule" over our practice, ourselves and the shaping of our path and destiny. Anywho...I've rambled enough - I will wait for the new videos...Be blessed! ☀

I follow Traditional Wicca, and I am so grateful for this video. I'm no longer in a coven, because I have to focus on my little ones, but I still very much "worship" the Lord and Lady and seek them out in the ways I've always known. I have been watching the hate on wicca, and how the beliefs and mish mash of neo-wicca and new age spirituality has become the idea of what most people think Wicca is without scratching the surface, and it's become a very shallow hate. As you said, these issues are in other forms of witchcraft, and it's very hypocritical to hate one practice while ignoring the same issues in theor own communities in my opinion. I am here for the Divine, and I'm proud of my religion. I agree we need to work and address the issues we have in our community, but I also believe all practices need to as well before spreading the very hate they claim to be against.

I will have to respectfully disagree. The first book I read was “a witches Bible compleat” by the Farrars in the 90s. Call me old school, but some of those classics had more meat to the information that was presented. A lot of the modern books I’ve read just don’t have the depth and imo are doing a disservice by not challenging the reader. Making things easy for everyone doesnt push wicca and witchcraft to bigger and better things, it creates readers who have to play catch-up with their understanding of things.

But I appreciate your thinking regarding the perceived boundaries of what is and isn't religion. I was wondering if there are any conversations you've generated or know about (and can thereby direct me toward) regarding the definition work surrounding magic. For context, I have a PhD in sociology, trained as a social theorist and my dissertation advisor was a Durkheimian so all of this stuff is super fascinating to me. If such requests are inapropriate here I understand. I recognize that I'm requesting intellectual labor or sorts. :)

I was sent this way by Religion For Breakfast's new video on grimoires. I've been interested in the subject of modern witchcraft and magic for a while, but I've basically done no research at all just because it is such a spectrum and it's hard to know where to begin. Well, you seem to know what you're talking about and don't give off grifter vibes, so I guess I'll get my foot in the door through your channel and new book!

I found this video today because I was thinking about the current attitude towards Wicca and poking around on the internet for some thoughtful opinions on the subject. Mostly, I was just getting frustrated at the negative attitude I see the most in community spaces with other pagans and other witches. Thank you, as always, Thorn for your perspective! I used to spout off all kinds of talking points about why Wicca was an issue and why it wasn't a good idea to be Wiccan without doing some examining for myself and once I did, I found a religion both fascinating and for me, personally, fitting. It's got its issues, sure, but that doesn't make it any less worth exploring from my perspective. Like others have said, it possesses a lot of depth and I'm excited to discover more about it as time goes on!

I see wicca as a foundation or a tree with many branches and fruits. Whether it's a true cult or not is not important, it's just a means to study and practice witchcraft, something that is as old as humans. It's there to center us and root us in magic and creation. To throw it out like a baby with the bath water is absolutely ridiculous. But everyone has their own mind and therfore their own path, so if one person out there thinks it's not worth anything that is within their own rite.

As a classically trained musician, I appreciate your music analogy! I’m currently on the “witchcraft appreciation class” part of the spectrum, with a little bit of whatever is analogous to “bought a concertina during the pandemic” and “thinking about picking up the ukulele.” (And now that I’m seeing all the parallels flashing before my eyes… I can see all the tarot decks and auxiliary percussion instruments I’ve bought that I “definitely have a use for!”) p.s. Yes, it’s a very excellent cat mug! 😻

Hey Thorn I just thought you should know that Amazon is costing you book sales. I preordered your book “Witches Among Us” on June 30th to guarantee that I got it as soon as it released. My book was scheduled to be delivered on October 7th by 10 pm. On that day I looked to see where it was and saw they changed the delivery date to December 5th. I looked and saw the book was still available for purchase and 5 copies were left in stock. So I called Amazon to ask why it was going to be delayed for 2 months and they said that they would place a reorder and send me an updated delivery date within 48 hours. When I received the update it was for the same date of December 5th. I had already purchased it on Audible because I like to listen as I read the physical copy. I canceled my order for the physical copy and just went ahead and listened to it. I’m sure I am not the only person this happened to. I figured you should know that you lost sales so you could file complaint with them for causing you lost revenue. They should have had enough books in stock to match the preorder and preorders should have taken priority over purchases made after the actual release. As a KDP author myself I would want to know that this was happening. The book was fantastic and I do plan to purchase the physical copy for my library through other means in the near future. Again I just thought you should know why your sales aren’t reflecting your preorder numbers. It is very unfair to you and your readers. Best wishes! 🫶🏽

Alot of people might disagree with me. But to me a founder of a religion or philosophy is the only one who can define said path. Gerald Gardners beliefs, teachings and practices defined British Traditional Witchcraft aka Wicca. Anton LaVey defined Satanism, Etc. Anything beyond that is appropriation. I'm neither one by the way. But I do respect them enough to not call any other form of practices or beliefs by those names. Before Gardner there was no path calling itself Wicca and before LaVey, there was no path calling itself Satanism. You had ceremonial magicians, folk magic practioners and you had devil worshippers. Or simply Atheist who liked the occult. When I began searching for Witchcraft decades ago, many of the books I checked out at the library were either historical or Wiccan based. And over the years, most books published labelling themselves witch craft were in fact Wiccan based. It does get very confusing for those just learning. And wanting non Wiccan teachings etc. Personally anyone who agrees with the Teachings and practices of Gardners path, and can't be initiated, should simply refer to themselves as an Electric Witch, or E.W. Coven/Path.

You are 100% correct. I would additionally add this --> IF anyone convinces a patient who needs to be on medications, to come off those medications, and that patient comes to harm-> then that individual who gave that stupid, uneducated and misguided advice, should not only be publicly named and warned against; they should additionally be criminally charged.
