Getting out of the vehicle in Assetto Corsa / DCS with Oculus Rift DK2

Quite a few people have commented on the ability to get out of the car in Assetto Corsa, so I had to try it as well :)

You can drive up on the track, get out of the car somewhere. Sit down at the side of the track and just simply watch your friends racing!!! Or if it would possible, watch the replay like that. Study your driving. How cool is that? Amazing.

Valve's VR is using lasers all over it instead of an infrared camera. This removes the tracking constraints.

+Dinkymod As much as lasers are cool, it's mostly about positioning the Vive Lighthouses or Rift IR cams.

mdbuehler i just set up my dk2 but game menu is not 3d, is that normal? i have to close my one eye in order to see in game menu.

Make sure the Rift service is running and you are on at least SDK 4.2. If that is failing, restart the service before launching the game. Make sure you have Oculus Rift chosen in the Video settings for Assetto Corsa. Make sure the Rift is your primary display in Windows. Be sure the Rift is turned on BEFORE launching the game. I have to launch it looking through the Rift, then click on the settings tab so it "sees" the Rift, then I turn the Rift off so I can see the main menu on the TV. Once you have your race ready to start, hit the Start button and IMMEDIATELY turn the Rift back on. When I do all that, it works fine. It sounds clunky, but is actually just a few steps that are easy to remember. Let me know if that doesn't sort it. Others are able to lauch the game in windowed mode and drag the game over to the TV / Monitor. When you launch a race, it will find the Rift (as you can leave it on the whole time when you run it this way). Doesn't work for me most of the time, but I have seen it work :)

Run the game in "Oculus mode" in the rendering settings. When the game shows up on your monitor press Shift+Windows+Right simultaneously. This should transfer your currently selected window over to the rift.

SparkiiInc You'll get a code and it's a download. I would not recommend it though. It's not worth the money imho. You could try a free alternative like Vireio instead.

BlakeLikesCake Me again. If you want the clutch and the H-shifter there isn't really anything cheaper (and being able to shift manually really adds to the experience in my opinion). If it's too steep for you I'd look for a used G27 or G25 (the G25 is largely identical, with the bonus of a sequential shifter mode that the G27 doesn't have). If you want to buy new, I'd really consider saving up for a month or two extra if you need, and get the G27.

Lukas* No, it was a car designed by Lotus, but it is not road legal. It is an F1 car, and they are not road legal, which means you can't legally drive them on public roads.
