The option to automatically recognize Oculus Rift was enabled but i couldn't figure out how to get a picture in the DK2. Any tips how to get it to work? By the way, very nice video. Awesome setup that enjoys me every time i look one of your videos. How awesome it has to be for you playing with it.
@MixedRealitySimRacing10 жыл бұрын
I read somewhere that it has DK2 support with reworked cockpits. And that he plays it with the DK2 shows that it's possible. Also he said in the video that Positional tracking works, in older videos with the DK1 he had a Razer Hydra for positional tracking and said that the 3d was very weak because he has a to use vorpx driver. Now he said the 3d is very good so i think it works, also i found that option in the game to automatically recognize the Oculus Rift. Hope some can help us to get it to work properly. Thanks in advance.
@RandyWatson8010 жыл бұрын
You need to disable the services. Visit the oculus forums there is a tool and actually the new sdk 4.0.1 has an option to disable the service so it will use the sdk 3.2
@mdbuehler10 жыл бұрын
andrew white Recorded this last night, definitely works, you just have to put the Rift display mode to extended, then stop all the services using this tool: www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/2c6qqc/updated_unofficial_oculus_service_manager_by/

I actually just returned an Oculus Rift CV1. It was really neat but had terrible readability of cockpit avionics and text. I had to move my head right up to most gauges to read them and looking for enemies in the air was terribly difficult. I thought surely after several years of development the rift would have at least had a higher res display. A bit disappointing but I'm looking forward to newer versions. For now, it's really still just a novelty. After going back to trackir and a regular monitor, I was shocked at what all I couldn't see in the rift.

Looks great, but does the blurring of the color blue and fuzziness of cockpit gauges mess with your eyes?
@mdbuehler9 жыл бұрын
OneFastTLR Only if you let it. If you accept you'll need to lean in to read some smaller gauges, and don't strain you eyes trying to do so when leaned back, there are no eye problems. A bit more resolution and that won't be a problem anymore.

Hey mdbuehler, I got the game running on my DK2, it looks great but I feel motion sick when I turn my head. It's not a problem in other games, my guess is it is because of the lower framerate of 50-60 frames - 75 frame are need for the DK2?. Do you have any recommendation for the hardware? On what specs are you running the game? I have a GeForce GTX 660 running on a i5-3570K @ 3.4Ghz.

One more question - is it possible to operate switches and buttons in the 3D cockpit? I imagine the mouse pointer would not work really well with the Rift...
@mdbuehler9 жыл бұрын
MyFavoriteDisease Yes, they all work and the mouse works. Only annoyance is you need to keep your head still or the cursor moves around. That can make hitting small switches tricky.

Great Review. I have some questions. What computer are you using? What Antialiasing Settings are active? How much frames do you get? It is not so smooth on my end and the test has very heavy aliasing :-(
@GameArtistChris10 жыл бұрын
The text has very heavy aliasing
@mdbuehler10 жыл бұрын
GameArtistChris Nvidia 780 and an Intel 4770k, both are overclocked to the point of instability so I can run the Rift games and FRAPS :) The lack of smoothness is a bug they will fix with this current SDK. If you set your refresh on the rift to 60, it almost completely goes away (but you get a tiny big of head tracking lag). You'll notice the FRAPS capture is very smooth, so I'm sure that little bit of juttering is all the SDK's fault.
@mdbuehler10 жыл бұрын
GameArtistChris I keep most settings on medium with textures on high (or things get blocky). No cockpit shadows, 1920 x 1080, very low AA and no TSAA if I remember correctly. Was a little trial and error finding what worked best.

THey need to add a front mounted camera to it with a PiP toggle so you can look at your keyboard while flying. Generally anyone that can type doesn't have to look at their keyboard but it would be a helpful feature for people who do need to look at it.

mdbuehler Honestly this part of the whole vr experience doesn't bother me, just simply lift if up off your eyes for a brief second and do what you need to do, its not like you have to glue it to your face lol. (The fact you cant see anything else is the whole point really, and I dont care if it looks *stupid* like some people have argued about the whole vr and wearing a headset like this.) I have not used a oculus yet, wont until consumer version is out but boy and I excited for it, been following it really close since it was first on kickstarter.

COURTSIDE Not in the Rift, where it looks normal. The lenses in the Rift distort the image, so the game is pre-distorted to compensate for it. This makes it looks bad on the TV capture, but it looks fine in the Rift.

Is the square (kind of 3:4) format to the view all you can see with the oculus rift in person or is that the cropped version required for youtube and the actual view through the oculus rift in person is actually 16:9 widescreen (hoping the latter is true as otherwise the square format seems very limited)? thanks for anyone's reply
@mdbuehler9 жыл бұрын
justinspirational Actually what you see in the Rift is all around you and life size. You don't notice the aspect ratio, because you don't see the edge (if that makes sense?)
@justinspirational9 жыл бұрын
mdbuehler sounds great! thanks for te clarification- can't wait for the consumer version to come out to test- in the meantime I'm enjoying nvidia 3d surround (3 monitors in stereoscopic 3d) combined with track IR5 in my sims like DCS World, Rise Of Flight, FSX etc (can't get nvidia 3d vision to work in X Plane 10 or IL-2 CLiffs Of Dover)- but maybe the Oculus crowd will figure it out..
@justinspirational9 жыл бұрын
mdbuehler when you say 'all around you'- is it like having a curved 270 degree projection screen around you then (not sure how it can be all around you or how you can't see the edge with such a small screen)..?
@mdbuehler9 жыл бұрын
Imagine an Iphone screen held right up to your eyes. It is small, but covers nearly all of your vision. The lenses you look through on the Rift distort it even more, so it is almost all you can see, and they let you focus "at a distance" like real life, so no eyestrain. Probably a better way to explain it but I'm having trouble thinking of it :)
@justinspirational9 жыл бұрын
mdbuehler thanks for taking the time to explain

I am blind in one eye. What effect will that have on my VR experience? Obviously I don't have stereoscopic vision, but will I still get full resolution? Or is the resolution split between two screens?
@neilrichards93348 жыл бұрын
+MasterMayhem78 The resolution is split 1080x1200 per eye, but because of the positional tracking when moving your head you will perceive depth much the same as anyone. So it will still feel 3D, see if you can try one out locally.
@MyFavoriteDisease9 жыл бұрын
I have to say I really envy you. How about the resolution, is it sufficient for reading the gauges without having to lean forward?
@mdbuehler9 жыл бұрын
MyFavoriteDisease Sadly, not with this version. You can infer from needle position on the larger gauges what they are doing (air speed, VSI, etc) but you cannot read the smaller numbers themselves without leaning in.On aircraft with simpler gauges (War Thunder has many preWW2 aircraft) you can read the numbers just fine (KingFisher,Buffalo, etc). They are close, next version be it by Oculus or Valve I think it'll be doable :)
@MyFavoriteDisease9 жыл бұрын
mdbuehler Hopefully. Thanks for the info!
