Those shots where the drone lags just a little bit, and you get to REALLY see how explosively the F1 car accelerates away before the drone re-captures it's pace is... just amazing. Those low shots too- where the drone gets super close to the car and the ground give such a sense of speed and drama it's seriously incredible. If all F1 races were filmed with these things, I wouldn't miss a SINGLE race!!!

This thing pulls ~2000+ watts for a whole lap with all of the electronics inside of a tiny tube. They did this without blowing up the ESC, and they kept a clean enough signal for a stable video feed + GPS rescue + clean enough gyro signal to be flyable / no de-syncs. And they hit those speeds with all the added weight of beefed up electronics, stripped down action cam, and a battery large enough to sustain that load??? Hopefully those that haven't flown FPV can appreciate the work that went into this drone (even the initial prototype)! Absolutely incredible job by everyone involved!

100% of the sounds were added. The whooshes, the F1 engine, all recorded externally and edited in. Not that this takes anything away. This was awesome, the fastest I've been able to get my drone is around 200km/hr. This is wayyyy better

The rain actually made it really aesthetic with the water showing how the air flows around the car, and the video game like pov showed how hard it is to keep control of the car when the driver pushes it to its limits which you can kinda tell with onboard cameras but it's not nearly as obvious as seeing it from above. Really cool project.

depending on the operator it should be safer than the cars to be honest. I say that from an FPV perspective (which is what brought me here) as opposed to an F1 perspective so I might be talking nonsense. Point is, a professionally operated drone of that size following the track poses little to no risk to spectators. What most people don't realize by this drone footage...is that yes, this gives an entirely different perspective of the race but more importantly is how amazing the skill level of the drivers are. The vapor trail left by the cars means that anyone that is in the slipstream have almost zero visibility when racing in the rain. Truly amazing.

And that was a tiny vapor trail. Sadly, ever since Whiting died, F1 has become a sissy sport where anytime a car pulls off track, no matter how safely, they throw an SC or VSC. It started getting out of control and somehow even got worse after Massi was replaced with Niels Wittich and his buddy (I forgot his name). And they don’t even let them race in full wet conditions anymore. They’ve even thrown red flags for gravel!

Shots like these also give you a real sense to the skill of the drivers. On the wet lap you can see instances where the car loses traction ever so slightly resulting in a bit of a shimmy, the way that Max keeps it under control and maintains forward speed is awesome. Really shows that Max was trying to put in a good lap time and not just out for a relaxing lap.

I've watched F1 for more years than I care to remember and this has to be one of the most awesome things I've seen. A drone that can not only keep up with a modern F1 car, but also keep that car nicely framed whilst filming. Amazing piloting, amazing drone, very well done

It would look less fast/impressive if they actually used a non-wide angle lens. Same with all these "mountain downhill adrenaline run" videos where the video is all distorted from the wide angle. Basically it LOOKS faster than it's actually going. That's why the F1 car is all stretched in this video.

This footage... unlike race day footage... conveyed SO MUCH SPEED. It really showed off how fast these cars are and even how much water is really kicked up. Would love to see this as a race day camera.

@efallenJust look at how fast the correction took place, at absolute most it was still 0.8 of a second at most. For Max to correct it in that time, he was already correcting it in half that time, so around 0.4second at most. As you said, 99/9% of people would have instantly crashed it, and those that didn't would still be in for a wild ride.

honestly seeing an entire full lap from that perspective in the rain is absolutely amazing. You can really see what kind of difference it makes to the control of the car compared to the dry one. Also the water mist really highlights the aerodynamic features of the car. That's art right there.

The entire point was to see if the drone could keep up. They get the best car and the best driver but then the track is wet. Its a bit of an anticlimax. If you want the visualizer you can get this in another video, this was about going as fast as possible.

Transition from Dron view to record view was amazing. Still the dry lap of Lawson look funnier due to closeups.

To the editors: Showing off bits and bobs of the flight in crappy quality was a genius way to really cause an impact for the final flight. I loved it!

The lower quality footage with the telemetry is the real-time video seen by the pilot, can't really go for filming quality on the operation critical feed

I think the drone has two cameras, the poor quality one is a live feed to the pilot’s headset, and the other camera records in HD and is saved to storage.

@@michaelchapman707 The following is my deduction from the video. The drone has 1 camera. The footage is transmitted live in low quality to the pilot but recorded in the drone in high quality. This explains why the footage has to be viewed after the race: they have to download it.

It really changed my perspective about F1. We are just watching cars coming and going but now, you can see how Max is struggling in the rain and the power of the car is immense. Great video thanks to everyone who realizes this idea.
