Dave Cliburn thank you, you too! I’m sure you’ve heard this a lot, but BCT can and will suck. There might be moments where you want to quit, but push through and look forward till the turning green ceremony when you get to walk across the field and see your family for the first time in 10 weeks. Because of your age at reception you might be put incharge of your bay and you might be PG because of your age. Our best PG and longest was our oldest guy that was 22 of 23. You will have a blast at BCT though from shooting the 50 cal, M19K, M249, M240, and qualifying on the M249. Gas chamber sucks and worst part about repelling is going over the edge and having to let go with one hand to show your brake hand works. Best part is jumping down the tower

It honestly just depends on your leadership. Im guard as well and was an e3 for like 3-4 months then got my 4, but that’s probably because I’m on a deployment. Can get it faster that way. But for you if you’re just doing RSP drills for 6 months then it’s definitely possible your RSP leadership will promote you to e4 before you go. There’s also a good chance they just won’t care and will let your actual unit promote once you complete basic.
@Salty-kz8mg4 жыл бұрын
Joseph Ronnel I’ve heard that our spots at our units are for E1-E3 so you might have to wait until you get to your unit to be promoted to E4 until you get to your unit. Can you talk about OSUT a little more and how it differs from AIT? And also some MOS' have multiple stages of AIT such as 94M, how does that work?
@YouReallyDontKnow4 жыл бұрын
OSUT is AIT but only for combat MOS. In OSUT everything stays the same, drill sergeants still yell and make you do things you don’t want to do , treat you like crap all around...it’s literally the same as basic you just move onto different learning objectives. For AIT I know for most other MOS takes place at a different military installation and is just more relaxed than basic. You’ll get your phone, you might get weekends off. It’s kind of like school in that you have certain hours your told to be somewhere and you’re learning your MOS during the day then anywhere from 1500-1700 you’re done for the day and start again the next. I went through OSUT so I know it’s just the same as basic, but I know a lot of non combat MOS folks and most of the them have told me their AIT was very relaxed and more so treated as a normal learning environment as opposed to being treated like dangerous idiots at benning lol.

Look into the ACFT when doing PT. For joining SF, look up MOS under the 18 series. (18F, 18D, 18X, etc.). You can also join SF while in the national guard as well. (I’ve talked to a lot of SF recruits, so this is off the top of my head so I may be wrong about some things). Talk to an Army recruiter. You will enlist as an 11B with SF recruit in your contract. You will go through Basic and Osut then be sent to Airborne school at Ft. Benning. If you can jump out of a plane, you are good. If you are too scared and refuse, enjoy being needs of the army (probably 11B since that’s what you enlisted as). One SF recruit who was “tough,” chickened out and was the only person to jump refuse out of the 300+ people at Airborne school. If you pass airborne (not hard, just get out of the plane, don’t break yourself or die), you will then go to Ft. Bragg. (I’m just guessing the next part) You’ll attend Special Warfare Candidate School (SWCS) and go through Selection with many other soldiers, old and new. You’ll probably attend SERE as well. After that, you get stationed wherever other “Groups” are stationed. Another route is to enlist with a different MOS, go through the OSUT/Ait training (possible to snag an airborne slot at AIT or get it in your contract via recruiter), then after getting to your unit, talk to an SF recruiter. Fliers can be found everywhere. If approved, you’ll probably have to go through some more training and get sent to SWCS.

@@thisguy.sensen I was a DS from 2005 through 2007 at Benning and I can assure you it would never happen. BTC doesn't have time for that. SFC (ret).

@@leeshelton8023 With all due respect, SFC (Ret) Shelton. DSs themselves said a lot of things were changed in BCT/AIT, like my DS in AIT said that her BCT in 2010 was way different than her BCT (to be DS in 2015). Also, 20 in our company got promoted during my BCT. I was also a detail in a class' inprocessing for AIT. We processed at least 5 soldiers who were promoted during their BCT. And when I got to my AIT, 5 soldiers from upperclass were promoted during their AIT.

@@leeshelton8023 Also, promotion to E1 all the way to E4 is now automatic, no need to present to the board. DS can recommend soldiers for promotion.

@@thisguy.sensen e1 to e4 has always been automatic. Unless flagged you hit your tis tig and be promoted. Typically there is no ceremony for that in line unit. Infantry heck no. BCT no. Have no time to see your LES. If you're an e4 entering bct, either degrees. Typically 24 months in total to reach e4.
