So, when you become Temporary, you only get it for 1 year. Which means, you wil need to come back to Mexico before the year expires to extend it for 3 years. No requirements after that where you have to be here. Just like with your temporary residency. You can go back to the states or canada or wherever. Just don't let the Temporary expire or you'll have to start over again. You need to be here in Mexico to renew it for the 3 add'l years. Hope this helps. ~ Paulette

@@Not2daysatan YES, I believe it is much lower. We did a video on the 2024 requirements. Go to our youtube channel and go back on dates about 9 months ago and i'm sure you'll find it. Not much time considering Dec is tomorrow. BUT, if you start it and can it done at a consulate in the U.S. (anywhere is acceptable) do it now in Dec. AND, if possible plan to spend a few weeks here in Mexico to complete it before. I think you have 6 months to cross the Mexican border. Once you cross the border you have to get your appt. scheduled fairly quickly as you have 30 days only. However, me personally, I'd never wait till the last minutes.

I live in the US very comfortably on less than Mexicos monthly income requirements for 2025 and I can drink the water directly from the tap. 😂 I don’t see México as being a realistic option for retirement anymore. There’s plenty of better (more realistic) options available. I meet the savings/investments requirements, but I see México becoming less affordable in the future as far as day to day life goes. Panama offers so much more for retired expats … which include discounts on utilities, theaters, hotels, healthcare, airline tickets, etc. And you only need a monthly income of at least $1000 a month to qualify for their Pensionado Visa.

Honestly, the issue for Mexico is internal. Although people from the US/Canada may not make enough to qualify, the ones who do generally make more than the average Mexican, and income from people from outside of Mexico will drive prices up. My neighborhood/city in the US is dealing with the same thing - I spoke to two people recently, one who is retired and one who wants to retire next year. Both of them had decent jobs, and one even will have a pension, but they cannot afford to remain in our city, and they were born here. One told me she is moving to Portugal. It's just bad all over, but I'm sure Mexico is trying to avoid what happened in Portugal, which is that they had to limit the purchase of property in certain regions because expats were driving the proces up (especially in Lisbon, the Algarve, and Porto).

The money in the brokerage account should be plenty. They don’t let you combine things usually like monthly income and interest earned. If that’s the case and the accounts are in both names one of you can qualify at one consulate and the other at a different consulate using the same banking statements.
