I remember playing it at a kiosk in dillards at ridgmar mall in holiday 91. I was 8 and it blew me away. Good memories. Every time my grandma went to dillards I would go just to play this. I got my sega that year from her with sonic and altered beast. She was the best gran ever.

I played Sonic 1 at a Toys R Us kiosk when I was 6. I was immediately hooked. The graphics were so bright and colorful unlike anything on the 8-bit NES we had at home. I loved the music, Sonic's character design (I laughed at the 'clown shoes' I thought he was wearing) Going through that first loop de loop was what sold me. My mom helped me write my Christmas list to Santa and I ran to the mailbox near our house and put it in. Unwrapping the Genesis in 1991 (bundled with Sonic 1) is my favorite Christmas memory. Became a lifelong Sonic fan after that. I watched the cartoons, read the comic book, ate Sonic spaghetti-o's after school, collected the Happy Meal toys, even had a giant pillow of Sonic's face.

Shortly after it came out I got a new neighbor across the street. They had a kid around the same age as me at the time, and they had Sonic. I never even played sega before and I was hooked big time. I wouldn't stop talking about it until I finally got it the next Christmas.

Oh man, the sense of time as a child was killer. Just waiting a week felt like a month because as kids we just couldn't separate our mind from the holy grail that was coming in the mail. I'll never forget Christmas of 1992 when I got my Genesis. My Dads friend was going to bring me his box of Genesis games to play. He was coming over that day and I was chomping at the bit for him to get there. I remember standing at the end of the driveway watching each car go by waiting for him to come. Minutes felt like hours and hours felt like an eternity! Now a week feels like a second and a year feels like a week.

Thanks for sharing! I purchased Sonic retail at lunch, but my favorite memory is picking up Sonic CD with my two nephews in tow on a promotion called "Sonic Sunday" when a Sonic game came out for all the current Sega consoles at the time. (Genesis, Game Gear, Sega CD, maybe even the Master System version? not sure) It was an awesome time with great gaming memories! 😄👍🎮

Dragon Warrior from Nintendo Power showed up at our door one day. My brother and I had heard of the promotion right after we had renewed our subscription. Turns out we accidentally renewed at the right time, because soon after, this full retail game we didn't even know we were getting showed up in the mail, included with our subscription renewal. It was our first real JRPG too. What a revelation, and such a surprise. Wish I could say I got Sonic this way, but I didn't.

I got the Sonic The Hedgehog + Mega Games I pack and my grandparents gave me Predator 2. I was amazed that I couldn't get through the first few levels of Sonic and my parents could. What I didn't know at the time was that they had been playing it for days sneaking around when I was going to sleep. LOL Thanks for sharing your retro memories, please keep up the great work.

This is just amazing to see and hear about. Sonic was my first video game; parents bought me the Genesis model 1 with pack in Sonic in January of 1993 for my 5th birthday. Sonic changed my life and for most of the 90s he was the definitive video game icon that I still cherish to this day.

We got the Genesis with Sonic bundle from Fedco sometime in 1992 and it came with a coupon for Sonic 2. That and our SNES were the first new consoles I ever received in my life and will never forget that day I first played Sonic.. Sadly I had to sell the original cartridge last year but I'll always remember the good times!!

I was born in 1999, never got to experience the 90s gaming era. But my parents bought a sega console in 1994 with a few of the sonic games. So when I was born the sega genesis was one of the first consoles I played. Sonic being my favorite, I remember one of the missions where you ran through a huge tunnel as tails, not sure which game that one was on.
@trzy Жыл бұрын
Sega Genesis was the first console I owned (only ever owned two: Genesis and then Playstation). My parents couldn't afford buying me an NES like everyone else had in the early 90's but one birthday, I think it was in third grade, my mom took me to Toys 'R' Us to get a system. I'll never forget how excited I was. I had my sights set firmly on the Genesis because Sonic had come out less than a year earlier. I recall walking through the parking lot and wondering if I should get an SNES instead but playing Sonic on that in-store kiosk just sealed the deal. The worst part was that when we got home, instead of hooking it up and playing it, my mom took my sister and I to the park for some outdoor time. That hour felt like an eternity with Sonic waiting at home.

God, I love hearing your stories because stuff like this is all I really have to go on when it comes to an era I didn't grow up in (that and old news/B roll footage). For me, my first experience with this game was when I was 7 in either the spring or summer of 2003. I'd swap consoles with a cousin- their Genesis with several games for my N64 every few weekends (until i eventually got my own Genny at a flea market). I'm pretty sure that I made it up to Marble Zone Act 2 or 3 on my very first time playing, and I remember thinking that it was so cool that it played similarly to Sonic Advance 2 (my first Sonic game).
@levievans59233 жыл бұрын
I remember having that Batman game. Here in the UK the console was "Sega Mega Drive", but a great console. I had Moonwalker Michael Jackson, Sonic 2, Golden Axe and a few others which i have forgotten. But the console will always hold up in terms of fun and enjoyment. I had the master system, too with Alex Kidd built into it. My older brothers had a Commodore 64 and Atari. Great days.
