I also recommend *Bosnia & Herzegovina* as a great place to visit! It's safe, cheap, full of beautiful nature, history, and culture. Plus, its right next to Croatia and isn't super packed with tourists yet, so you don't have to worry about too many crowds :) Some places I recommend to visit are: Sarajevo (the capital), Mostar (with the iconic old bridge), Blagaj (with a dervish monastery and the herceg stjepan fortress), Kravice waterfalls, the village of Pocitelj, the Srebrenik fortress (Bosnia is *full* of castles but this one is probably my favorite because of the view), Prokosko lake, Travnik, Jajce (one of my *favorites*! - dont miss the medieval fortress and mithras temple), Štrbački buk waterfalls in the Una national park, Rama lake, Blidinje nature park, Neum (on the sea), Medjugorje (a catholic pilgrimage site), Mogorjelo (remains of a Roman villa), Radimlja (a necropolis of huge medieval tombstones), Trebinje, Stolac (with yet another fortress and many historic buildings), Konjic (has great rafting and Tito's bunker from the Yugoslav era), Lukomir (a medieval village which is the highest altitude and most remote village in the country), Sutjeska national park, Bjelasnica mountain near Sarajevo (where the '84 olympics were held). As you can see, there are *a lot* of places worth visiting there, but most of the tourists go to Sarajevo and Mostar, and they miss out on most of these other places. Bosnia's an undiscovered gem in Europe, but the tourism in the country has been rapidly growing. It's a pretty small country too, so it wouldn't take a long time to see many of these places :)

I think my top priority is money. I live in the UK and I'd love to visit USA, Aus, New Zealand, Thailand but they are all a very expensive plane ticket away. I'd love to go backpacking around Europe but I'd be on my own and a first timer. Veryyy daunting. Also, do you know anything about working abroad? Thanks for your videos :)
@derekcolman10 жыл бұрын
It depends how important it is to you. Nadine saves money to travel by going without some of the things we take for granted. That means cutting out the nights out, and not buying a load of clothes, make up, and other junk you could live without. Look up the Contiki website if you are in the 18-35 age group. Lots of good value holiday trips.

I saw this program where you can work while you visit Australia, it lasts up to a year www.australia.com/plan/before-you-go/working-holiday-visa.aspx Just need some money, your passport, the visa and I think you're set to go! I'm not totally sure about other countries if they have something similar (I haven't tried looking it up, although I doubt AU is the only country to do it) but I definitely would love to try this one out when I can

I like this video a lot because you divided it into section like where to go if you are looking for "backpacking, natural beauty, etc... All I can say is : Come to Austria. Although it is a small country, however it covers all the points mentioned in the video. You can find everything here, good food, natural beauty, incredible seas and lakes and mountains, you can travel on a budget here without missing much, also the public transport system is one of the best in the world. I am happy to live here and still exporing my country. Welcome everybody.

Tobago is actually a luxury place? From what I've heard it's just a poor country and the beaches aren't that great. Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao are way better in my opinion and the water is super clear. (I live in Venezuela and these 3 Islands and Trinidad&Tobago are very near to the venezuelan coast). Here in Venezuela we have caribbean islands too, but the most beautiful is Los Roques archipelago, you should see a video of it! It's gorgeous and not expensive! Also the landscape you see from the airplane is BEAUTIFUL, I saw it when I was going from Caracas to Puerto Rico :) Also another place for natural beauty is the Angel Falls in Venezuela which is the highest waterfall in the whole world, and another place for architecture is Dubai! It's my dream place to go.

Couchsurf! Seriously, you make friends with the locals, you spend time with them and they show you the area. Costa Rica is a great place to visit! I highly recommend staying in one of the local hotels in Tamarindo (city), Guanacaste (the province) this city is ripe with great food, many fun interesting things to do, and also located right next to the beach, literally! The beach may seem a bit intimidating during high tide, but when its low tide... You need to walk like 90 meters into the ocean for the water to get up to just your knees! If your looking for a non touristy place to visit with friendly locals, and the only danger is a food coma, then Tamarindo is the place to go!

I think you can come up with destinations for your categories within a lot of countries. for instance I am in California and I could see creating a budget or luxurious/decadent tour of Napa Valley depending on how and where I traveled or stayed, what places I visited. also, a first time traveller might want to consider planning trip(s) within their own country - or continent to start.

Any ideas for somewhere affordable within Europe? :) I'm in the UK and although I've done a LOT of travelling in my 18 years, this is the first time I have complete freedom in decision making :D My older sister and I are thinking of going August/September before I start university so we have a pretty tight budget. We're definitely not looking for luxury, more like culture and adventure/adrenaline. We don't mind hostels etc. which will definitely cut the cost but there's just too much choice! France/Denmark/Switzerland/Austria/Italy/Sweden etc. are probably too expensive and we've already been with our family in the past but they're not totally out of it. A road trip through multiple countries as EU citizens is an option we're just unsure of the cost. We also don't want to go to any countries where we'll constantly be hassled as two young women alone so definitely not Turkey. As for languages, we could deal with French and Spanish between us so no countries where there's a huge language barrier. Any ideas? :)
@Babu1993310 жыл бұрын
Somewhere like Croatia is totally afforable if you're on a budget. If you wanted to see a few countries, you could do Austria / Slovenia / Croatia. Perhaps start in Vienna, then into Ljubljana, then down into Croatia where you could go to Split, Dubrovnik or even do some of the islands. Trains are cheap too, instead of taking a car. Anyway, just a few ideas :)

I will be traveling from 6 months to a year starting around my 28th birthday. I would go in short bursts to each place. I have family in Denmark that I can stay with for cheap and go out on weekend trips to say Switzerland. Staying in hostels along the way. I feel like I will only have one chance to travel. Once I become a professional and start a family it will be more difficult to travel, but not impossible. Also, travel will help me learn about being fully independent, and engage with a different culture. No need to be jealous ha ha Wait until I take the trip. Where do you see yourself traveling?

***** Well done, Annabel. You are an example to the others who don't know how it's done.
@marcorodvas10 жыл бұрын
***** You live in a great country with an acceptable economy. That's the difference. Here in Venezuela the stupid communist government only let us use 2500$ to travel per year and 300$ to buy stuff from the internet (we buy hotel days with that money) also there are some places like Florida(USA) where the goverment only gives us 700$ at that trip. That's why traveling to Venezuela is so inexpensive.
@marcorodvas10 жыл бұрын
Michael Dowse The venezuelan goverment only let us use 700$ on the credit card + 300$ on cash to certain places in the world, for example: caribbean islands, florida(the state in the USA), perú, colombia, panama, costa rica, etc. that's because these are the most traveled places where venezuelans go, and because the government hates those democratic southamerican countries. In the rest of the world only 2500$ on credit card and 500$ on cash (in total you're allowed to use 3000$ per year). If you came here with 800$ you could sell it to a normal person like me who wants to buy it and get a lot more, for example for 1 dollar at an exchange bank you get 11 BsF, and if you sell it on the streets you can get around 66BsF to 80BsF. That's why when my United States family come here to visit it's really cheap for them, they can stay in the best hotel in Caracas(the capital) or go to Los Roques archipelago (one of the most beautiful caribbean islands that belongs to Venezuelan territory). I've heard of people from Brazil who come to travel to Los Roques and with 500$ they can stay a whole week with good food like Lobster included. Also, most of us Venezuelans go to the United States to open bank accounts and buy dollars to deposit them there, then if we want to buy a house or a car we just sell the dollars and get a lot of BsF because the dollars price grows exponentially each month, it's basically the only way to "save money" because the inflation is too damn high. Also, the prices of the international flight tickets this year are getting really expensive because of the economic politics that our president is doing, me, as a student, can get around 3.300BsF working per month and the flight tickets to for example Mexico, Los Angeles or New York are above 25.000BsF. Let me tell you, you're lucky you live in New Zealand. I'd love to travel there.
@marcorodvas10 жыл бұрын
Michael Dowse it's called 'exchange control', a lot of countries have had them, Argentina is also one of them, maybe NZ had one too on it's history; it's made just so that there is no leak of other currencies from the international reserves of a Country. It was started since 2003, for basically NO REASON, there was absolutely no leak of money by then, the dead president chavez said that the 'capitalists' were taking all of the national wealth so that's why this stupid ignorant communist created it (they are the most corrupt government in our national history, they became rich from one day to another, also their daughters travel to the most expensive places like Dubai with no $ limitations, and have expensive cars like brand new BMW's or Hummers). I understand pretty well this theme because I study accountancy & economy. All of my macroeconomy teachers said that the exchange control is Ok if it's justified and specially that they CANNOT be used for more than 2 years, because that's where the hyperinflation starts (hyperinflation is different from the normal word 'inflation', it's a worse out of control inflation). So yeah that's why almost all of people of my age when they graduate they go to live to other countries like the United States, UK, Canada, Chile, Europe, Ireland, Australia, Iceland and in some cases New Zealand, a brother of a friend is living in New Zealand and most of my family lives in Florida, Connecticut, and Texas in the United States).
@derekcolman10 жыл бұрын
Michael Dowse It's because of the country's economy. We had the same controls in the UK back in the mid 1970s because our inflation rate was high and we had a poor balance of payments with the rest of the world. Such controls are often a condition of borrowing money from the International Monetary Fund to bail out the economy.
