Nice intro, the new COP system is really mind bending about the limitations it has removed. Plus integration with Houdini Engine and internal to HDAs. Thanks!

It is absolutely awesome. There's so much you can do with it and I think its going to be truly incredible what people come up with as far as ways to use it.

@@InsideTheMindSpace Agreed. My mind is spinning with ideas I have had for years, now it's all in one pipeline, for indie types.. :)

Having full access to the rest of Houdini brings a level of potential that no other software gives. I've got so many things to try and mess with. Not enough time in the day

Thanks for this intro. I've been waiting a long time for this Houdini update to be released. Finally I can try Copernicus too, I want to try it for toon shading, so as not to use either Octane or Redshift for this anymore.
@guitoma1095 ай бұрын
Nice start with Copernicus. Good to know it is very similar to Substance Designer. Thanks for share.
@InsideTheMindSpace5 ай бұрын
Very close yet exponentially more powerful in my opinion as it has full access to Houdini. That power maybe not be as useful if you are trying to bake everything to textures for other software though.

Did you mention there was a way to look through the LOP camera while your in SOPs in Solarios? I can't remember.
@InsideTheMindSpace5 ай бұрын
That should be possible by default in Houdini 20.5 now I believe. If not go to the geo context and import the camera and you will be able to

HI so are you completely giving up redshift and working with cops and karma/solaris?
@InsideTheMindSpace5 ай бұрын
I still have a Redshift license but I might end up not renewing as a lot of the things I was missing were addressed. Redshift is still faster though I believe.

When I try plugging the noise into the preview material, it does nothing. I swear I followed this step-by-step. What might I be doing wrong? (Yes, I checked the display flag)

Check to make sure your viewport isn't locked maybe. Also if you are on Mac apparently cops doesn't work on Mac. Otherwise I'm not sure.

@@InsideTheMindSpace Yep. It's a Mac issue. No problem on my PC. Thank you!

Great intro video! But why would I use COPS, when I can do the same things with MaterialX, which is also more compatible with different programs?
@InsideTheMindSpace5 ай бұрын
You absolutely cannot do the same thing with MaterialX. COPs has full access to basically all of Houdini. MaterialX cannot build materials in the way that Substance Designer would and COPs is very similar to Substance in that regard. As this series develops we will touch more on some of those things but you can bake full simulations into textures if you want.

@@InsideTheMindSpace Alright, thank you for answering. I'll be looking forward to the next videos then 🙌
@InsideTheMindSpace5 ай бұрын
@fabian_mende it's very cool all the things you can do with COPs and I'm excited to share some of it. I would like to also say that you are correct about MaterialX being compatible elsewhere and you should try to maintain that compatibility if you need it. You can export textures from COPs which is where that would come into play.
@BillSpitzak5 ай бұрын
COPs creates textures, which you can then use as inputs to your MaterialX shader.

I really like your tutorials. I hope you can take this critique in a positive way :-). I notice you often say, "We'll talk about it in a moment." This is very very distracting and takes you out of the video. As the viewer, I am now trying to remember when you say it, so I can make sure you follow thru with the promise. If you plan ahead better, I think that can help. You will sound more like a subject matter expert. I hope this is seen in a positive way :-).

Thanks for your feedback. I'll keep that in mind. There is often a lot of information to go over and I want to make sure we cover it but not jump back and forth a ton. Sometimes it's hard to find that balance. I'll definitely keep that in mind
