Cool video, I like hearing your perspective on the hobby. Since I was late to the game of collecting, I over bought to gain a larger collection, but let’s face it, it definitely became an addiction, especially once I discovered the second hand market for vintage. So I’ve prob bought a few hundred in the 3 years I’ve been doing it, and by all accounts that’s probably overkill. But I got caught up in it. And this is one of my secondary hobbies, I’m a musician and that will always be my true passion. So I decided about 6 months ago, to wean myself down to not bidding on multiple knives at once, not buying more from a company just to get free shipping, etc. That led me to start cleaning up and trying to fix some of my clunkers, and I decided to take the hobby in that direction. I don’t know if I would say restoring, more along the lines of what the knife doctor does, blade replacement, backspring replacement, re-pinning, yada yada yada. But no where near as good as that guy, he’s something else. But I’m learning and watching, got some needed power tools and hand tools, and we’ll see what happens. I’ll always want to buy knives, and always will, but I def need a little break from it. Thanks for another cool video.

@JoelPerri7777 The way I look at it, it's like a library. There's always something there if you need to check it out. For me, it's not just the knives. The research, the history, the hunt, and the cleaning up the knives. It's immensely satisfying. There's one more thing. This. The brotherhood, sharing, comradery. That's pretty cool, too. Thanks for sharing, Joel. 🙏👌☺️

You made some good points in your video. I am definitely thinking about my collection knives vs. the users. It’s a fun hobby.

Good stuff , that 1840ish mother of pearl is amazing and probably museum grade . Also noticed the big case stockman is still not dyed but I like it better as is . Makes it one of a kind . CHEERS

My collecting is very strange. I never get stuck on a brand but a pattern or era. If it’s a stockman then I want to find very many from different manufacturers and time periods. Then it might be Barlows or etc. I use knives every day in my line of work and only consider them tools instead of collectibles. I just treasure my vintage stuff and don’t want use it. Plum weird i guess. Sorry for the to long comment.
@rasputinscastleАй бұрын
@RonaldNorwood-kn4bo I call that shot gun collecting. That's what I am. One advantage is that you're able to compare different brands over time periods. It's interesting to me to compare differences. 😊
