About to go to my first AA meeting and I'm terrified. Never considered myself an Alcoholic because I don't drink every day, but I do drink every other day, and there's no having one drink. I'll drink till I'm drunk at best, blacked out at worst. Nursing another nasty hangover today, everybody's pissed, and it's time to stop the cycle. Never really thought I had a problem till my wife confronted me about it, and reminded me of the last 20 years and my perfect record of abusing absolutely every opportunity to drink. I don't want to lose her, or my kids, or my job, I want better things out of life. Thank you for the inspiration.

some people are not lucky enough to come to a fork in the road moment until it's too late. consider this a blessing in disguise, and an opportunity to head down the right path. The universe is on your side, don't stand in the way of your own blessings! drinking is easy! temptation is easy! It's so easy that if you were to lose your family in your home you could keep doing it while you were homeless. Show your family that you are more than the predictable track record of your past. You are not your mistakes and you are not destined to continue making them! 9 days not a drop of alcohol… thats as long as gone in years … been drinking since i was 16 and ill be 50 this year in august. Definitely had my share of negative consequences two dui’s ..relationship problems, awful hangovers days lost to feeling shitty. Feeling really good about this. Already feeling so much better physically and mentally… been journaling my cravings when they happen and what i was feeling possibly triggering them. Watching a lot of content here on youtube university. I need to make this work. There is so much i still want to do even as i get older and i know lying around recovering with a pounding headache is not the way to get it done. Really enjoy the content. Keep it coming.

Hope you’re sticking with it. I’ve been drinking since 13 and just turned 50 and I understand how difficult it is. Stay strong! If you fall off, get back on. Keep trying. I was able to stay sober for 2 yrs in my early 30s. Then life BS got me back on the bottle. I can usually do a few months then fall off for a few days or weeks sadly. Keep trying, my friend!

I am 49 and I went 4 years from 39 to 43 alcohol free. Why did I relapse? Probably my divorce and not engaging life in a more positive manner. I can't let bumps in the road knock me off the cart again. Oh and day 3 of my sobriety. I went for a few days last month, but fell in the trap again. This time feels pretty positive. I still have my old coins and I'm reusing them to mark my pathway.

As a daily drinker, Thank you for this video, it gives me hope for after detox. I am terrified of my future as I can't afford to go to rehab or a detox. I so badly want out of this cycle that I made an appointment with my Doctor to see what help they can offer to detox at home. Wish me luck.

Hoping you can find access to temporary treatment at home. A week-long Librium taper and then onto something to manage the cravings is what I received last year from a psychiatrist. That visit and prescription was the beginning of my sobriety journey. I could have used the Librium a few times since… but just having that help once was what I needed to kick start. You deserve the help. Wishing you well 🙏

I am not a doctor of ANY sort. My doctor prescribed for me something called "antabuse"(sp?) to help me get through the detox stage. It was completely free and I take one each morning with my coffee (a healthier addiction?) and I have gone as long as three years straight without missing alcohol. I am now back (6 years later) and only on Day 4.

I just celebrated 12 years of sobriety. The first few months were tough. Hang in there. Last year I had gallstone necrotizing pancreatitis. Two surgeries, half a dozen endoscopic procedures, a dozen anesthesia events, six weeks in the hospital, and about six months of suffering. And through all that, I didn’t have to drink. If I can do that, you can too, one day at a time.

18 days sober. I also dumped sugar, carbs, caffeine, and SSRIs. I don't recommend this approach as I went through 6 days of pure hell, feeling like a perpetual panic attack. I'm out the other side now and I feel absolutely wonderful. Alcohol is poison but so is sugar. Count that out and I can attest that you'll feel better than you ever have. Videos like this are helping me stay motivated to stay sober. You seem like a wonderful person. Thanks

96 days without alcohol and added healthier life choices. Growing older starts getting a little scary with the little health issues that keep popping up. I believe God tapped me on the shoulder and quietly gave me a second chance at a longer life. He put the thought in my mind to detox and find a healthier life style. It's what I wanted so it wasn't that difficult. After I was able to develop a routine and learn that food is medicine and alcohol is poison, I found increased motivation. I love feeling healthier in comfortable fitting cloths and sharing my success with family and friends. I'm proud that my actions have influenced others to do the same; it's so easy to fall into a unhealthy pattern without even realizing the consequences. I'm down 26 lbs and feel really good for a change...

For me after the first month which was HORRIBLE the sleep, my God the sleep! I don't think I ever slept before sobriety. I'm still getting the social stuff figured out. I was a heavy alcoholic for around 17 years. I use to drink 30 beers a day then in my last year of drinking I was drinking around 25 shots a day. I weaned myself off to the point Iwas having hallucinations and eventually a seizure in my sleep. Been sober since March 8th of 2023. First week was great but around day12-14 the anxiety was unbearable. I have a panic disorder and it was that x 10,000. I ended up back in the hospital 5 times after getting sober with high blood pressure at 200/150 constantly and 20-30 panic attacks a day. Nobody would help me. One hospital tried to put me in a detox program for drugs and I was 100% sober. I started keeping a journal as I honestly believed I was going to die. The headaches were horrible and lasted 3-4 months. It took around 2 months for my blood pressure and heart rate to go down as well as my anxiety. Once it did I started playing hockey again at 33yo. Before I knew it I was on 9-10 teams, one of which is a minor pro roller team in the PIHA league, and a semi pro ice team in the MHL. I currently just started lifting weights again this Monday and trying to get a contract for a pro league in Europe. I have to lose 20-30 more lbs of fat and add 15-20 more lbs of muscle. My anxiety now is almost non existent now. I’ll be a year sober in exactly 1 month and I’m feeling great. Im playing the best hockey I’ve ever played and in great shape. I’m motivated again, naturally happy and healthy, and I actually eat again. I didn’t eat for the last 2-3 months of me drinking. I was literally dying fasho. I hope someone reads this and gets or stay motivated.

I'm drinking a lot of herbal tea such as, Korean Ginseng, Turmeric, Ginkgo Biloba & Ashwagandha. I'm so glad I came made the choice to get 'clean & sober'. It's all worth the effort of taking the first step to quit drinking. There's nothing greater than being healthy & strong. I haven't regretted my decision at all. Take that first step!

9 days in and almost ran to the liquor store but stepped out to watch this instead. I’m not an Eminem fan but I would like to share that I relate very much to the lyric “and if I cannot have you no one can, you’re my darling, ‘cause I possess your soul, your mind, your heart, and your body.” When I’m sober like this for some time I get severely depressed and basically don’t speak at all. It’s actually very hard on my relationships/marriage. But great video. I’ve got to keep going to see that benefit.

I just started DJ-ing this past year and am getting booked for some upcoming shows early this year… I feel a little nervous with how the lifestyle can be. I quit drinking by accident. It's only been a couple/few months (I honestly forget when my last drink was, not n/a, anyway), and it was because I got on a medication I can't drink on so I can have the best chance possible at college, but I'm enjoying this sober thing. Prior military, which we all know the culture that surrounds the lifestyle, and never thought I'd quit. Not because I felt I had a problem, but because it was a hobby for me. Going out and visiting all the breweries in the area gave me a sense of socialization. I never really bought 30 packs of cheap shit, it was mostly craft. And, expensive. That's another thing, I'm saving a lot of money by not going out to restaurants and bars every night. I'm not living on bar food and high sodium, processed stuff. I'm learning how to cook and expand my menu, at the same time. I'm not a chef, but I did make a 4 egg omelette yesterday morning, which I've not done in years. And the sleep is so much better. I'm having difficulty waking up. Not because I'm hungover, but because my body is getting real rest, finally. I'm also going to sleep more naturally. I've been depending on cannabis for the past 4 years for sleep, because I never felt really tired at night. I didn't realize it was because of all the stuff I was putting in my body. And, I'm thinking of slowly cutting that out, too. I checked my bank account a couple times last week, and by this time in an average month during my drinking, I'd be basically moving funds around and hoping I had enough until I got paid. I don't know how long I'll be keeping this lifestyle, but I'm enjoying it enough to not miss the other one. Even my music writing has seen a positive effect. Here's to another day of sunshine and no alcohol!

I drank from age 18 to 21 and it was clear that it was going to be a problem for me. I also had a range of other drug habits. I quit the lot one day in 1979, including coffee and tea. I'm now 45 years and 2 days sober. You can do this people. That person who made intoxication central in their life has long gone and I've gone on to have an amazing life, super fit and healthy. Indeed I have achieved all my dreams. If you are taking drugs of any kind you are holding and treasuring a lump of lead. Put it down and pick up a lump of gold, the true treasure . . . health, fitness and wellbeing. Change your mindset, change your life. What you believe about yourself is probably wrong. You've got this and a whole lot more!

I quit on memorial day weekend. 2 years ago. Worst time bc it was beginning of summer , all the bbqs. Weekly weekend gatherings. 365 x 2 year. Is 730 days at least x 3 drinks a day. 2190 glasses of wine that did not go into my mouth. 2190 glasses of wine that didnt soak in my brain, pass thru my liver. My liver , lung, blood pancreas, etc. is thankful, my memory is thankful, my family is thankful i stopped. It's easily over 2300 glass of no wine . Nightly drinking, weekend drinking. Morning drinking. All stopped. Thank goodness, I have my family back, my health recovering. Kids will all be in college soon. Won't go back. Want my kids to come home am visit a healthy, happy, sober father . Someone they'd be happy to see and can rely on bc for many years I have havent been around physically, mentally, emotionally. Can't dwell on the past, but do reflect on it to continue my positive changes so they don't head in that direction but if they do, they'll know it can be changed. Be back on course.

I am leaving for a 1 week vacation at a resort in Costa Rica! It is a "once-in-a-lifetime" type trip for my wife and me. I have been sober for 110 days, and I am feeling a little anxious about the triggering feelings that a beach vacation like this might give me. In the past, a trip like this would be filled with bloody marys in the morning, margaritas at lunch, and cocktails in the evening. I know I am going to feel so proud of myself when I get home and I can say that I stuck to my plan and had a great time without drinking! I want to keep my alcohol-free life going, I want to set a good example for my son, and I want to enjoy the trip and have great memories afterward. Any advice or encouragement will be appreciated. I have some sober buddies on "speed dial" that I can direct message with while I am there if needed.

Im just absorbing as much info and opinions as possible right now... I am 42 days sober!!! This last couple weeks though has been rough... Where as the first week was very hard for it's own reasons; I started feeling great for a few weeks after. Now I have been bogged down and fighting major fatigue of the like that I have never experienced in my life. I am not sure why; im not sure if it is mental; but I am doing my best to get up and keep moving. I get back from work and immediately want to sleep and then just want to sleep the evening and night away; then feel pooped still the whole next day. Annoying but I am just looking at it as part of the process... If it continues for a long time I will probably just go get my blood work down; just to ease my mind that it isn't any deficiency or anything.
