True! I had to stay away from certain stores in the beginning. Even now, much later, I dont even go down the liquor isle at the grocery store. Not that I'm worried about it- but you never know what might happen. Just can't risk it.

Socially accepted and expected by society. It’s almost as if you’re an outsider if you don’t drink and have to justify it to everyone. That’s how much everyone does it. Day 38 straight. But 2 drinks in last 60 days (I think) 😝 Thanks again for the abundance of videos! It’s helping me and I’m sure a lot of your subs

As I was leaving work today (4 day weekend, woohoo) the guys I work with were already talking about stopping and getting beer. And talking about the “fun” they’re gonna have this Independence Day weekend. Ain’t gonna lie, I for sure was craving it then because that’s what I’ve been doing for years now. It’s crazy how your mind can trick you into forgetting why you stopped in the first place. But listened to one of your videos on the way home and it brought it all back why I’m on this journey. Thanks again. Day 3 and going strong.

I hade to leave my serving job of 3 years last month because, I admit, I did not have the self control to say no. Every time I quit drinking, I feel amazing, then one of those damn occasions (there's always a "reason" to drink) comes up. But you're right... It's fucking everywhere. And THAT is why it's so hard for me to quit. I feel like I need to be a hermit to successfully quit and that is such an overwhelming lifestyle change to consider. 😣

For me, it's hard to quit for two main reasons. 1. The cravings become all consuming (can't think of anything else and eventually I just give in). 2. It can be so much fun. With that comes fond memories of times on the booze and a subconscious (and conscious) desire to relive those experiences.
@GettingSoberAgain

It's interesting that we long for the good times and forget all the bad that happened while drinking. Almost every single fight, argument, jailing, risky decisions, dangerous decisions, near death experience...also TOO on booze.

For me it’s the habit. Getting alcohol and drinking it was part of my routine which I found really hard to change. Also, it felt like a reward and I didn’t have anything else in my day that was that I felt was a reward to make it worth getting out of bed. So so sad 😢 Oh also because there is reminders and access to alcohol EVERYWHERE!!! Very hard to not be triggered…

For me it was hard to decide to quit alcohol as I described myself as an ovo, lacto wino. My parents drank. I lived in Europe from age 13 to 21 where wine and beer was the preferred beverage and cheap in the 60's. Also I was very self-conscious about my looks being overweight. So thru out my life alcohol was always there to help me deal with everything, the good , the bad and the ugly. So I became addicted to it.

1st, please lose the background music. What you have to say is interesting enough, us deaf guys don't need that distraction. 2nd, I am on the path. I have an "addictive personality" if that is even a thing, and I have a lot of alcoholism in my family. My uncle and older sister both drank themselves to death, and two of my other siblings are on the sobriety train after years of abuse. Years ago I was addicted to cigarettes. I would quit for up to two weeks, then a cup of coffee in the morning or a beer in the afternoon and I would be right back to my two packs of Winston's. I was dying. I would wake in the night with coughing fits and during the day I would cough up bloody mucus. I was spitting all day long. And I realized that nicotine was bigger than me. July 4, 1983 I got down on my knees and gave it to Jesus. I told him this was more than I could handle and I needed Divine Rescue. I got up off my knees and have never had another cigarette. I put a lit one in my mouth as a joke a few years later and nearly threw up. I think what opened the door on closing the alcohol window was my new (9 months now) lifestyle of fasting. My wife was cranking down a big bottle of wine and then switching to vodka every night. I guess I inspired her because she is on a mission now and fasts with me. She is envious of my weight loss and knows alcohol is bad for her. I have a 12 pack of Yungling and a couple bottles of bourbon sitting on a shelf in my closet- my wife asked me to get them out of sight. They sit and collect dust, not tempting me in the least. Jesus said his yoke was easy and his burden was light. In your own strength you can do a lot of good, but it will be "SO HARD". I have been a Christian for over 50 years and just discovered the path of keeping in step with the Spirit and abiding in the Vine.

Ive been sober 5 months. Quit cold turkey after 30 years drinking. I just find other things to do with my time instead of drinking. I still go to bars but I drink diet coke or iced tea. I feel great. I really never drank hard liquor just beer so I think thats why its not that hard for me. I dont feel the need to drink. I spent the weekend in jail after my 2nd dwi. I just think of that and realize the beer isnt worth it. I wish I would have gotten help when I was 28. Literally I wanted to die over the summer. When I think of all the money I spent and the self sabatoge against myself I felt in my mind and actions its really sad. Im 52 now and I feel my life was a waste. I never married never had kids. And Im a good looking guy and a good person but who wants to date a drunk? I have failed at life due to drinking. But it is what it is.All I can do is try to better my life now. At 52 its a sad state to be in. If your thinking about quitting stop it for yourself. Just view it as a poison to your health, mind and spirit. And have goals and dreams and dont give up on life at 30 like I did.

I feel that it is hard for me to quit because I never feel as good as the euphoria I get from drinking. It's a quick feeling that dissipates quickly, however overtime I drink more at a time and/or closer interval's. It's because I suffer from ADDICTION, ALCOHOLISM, PTSD, BIPOLAR, ANXIETY, & MDD. (Maj, depression) and I agree it's as hard as it is to start flossing. I can go weeks and still lapse for a day or two after those week or weeks. I hate it, but I do it because I feel a shallow happiness. Which is better than none. That's why it's so hard for me .. no sir, you brain will not be doing as you please for some time. You've conditioned it to work with sludge in the engine for too long. Now that you gave yourself a fresh oil change, your body and brain want to go go go! You may be suited better breaking up your sleep (like our ancestors) for a bit. maybe it's a nap during the day, and only 3-4 hours at night, then stay awake for a few hours and go back to sleep a few hours. stay off the caffeine and the sugar. you'll be sleeping like a rock in no time.

When that anxiety kicks in, it's best to counter it with some cardio. Get the blood flowing. get your heart rate up over 120bpm by CHOICE, not by a chemical imbalance. It doesn't have to be at a gym. You don't have to look like a pro. Jog for 60 seconds and then walk for 60 seconds. jump rope without the rope. jumping jacks. body weight squats. pushups. standing leg raises. shadowbox...hell...MOPPING THE FLOORS will give you great cardio if you do it at a vigorous enough pace

Last time I checked, a 1.5oz shot of tequila at a regular mid America bar was about $6. A 1/4 cheeseburger is also about $60 I would reckon 1/4lb is a considerably larger amount than 1.5oz lol
