A great playing Getzen Eterna is reviewed here. Years ago, I had the Getzen Eterna Doc Severinsen Model; this is the remake of that horn. What an easy, powerful, clear tone. It'll work for anyone but might excell for lead players (I've heard VERY positively from them about this horn), and seniors who need an easy blow. Congrats, Getzen; this is indeed a classic. :)

I still have one of these trumpets from 1978. With a modern mouthpiece it still sounds fantastic.

John, I had a nice one back in the late '70's, and a guy in my church begged and begged until I traded him - for a UMI King (and he DID give me some cash). One of the worst things I've ever done. I definitely preferred the original to the newer ones; you're lucky to have one; super horns. Thanks for commenting! :)

Michael; Thank you for commenting. I had one of the original Severinsen models from Getzen - what a great horn. A friend of mine begged and begged for it until I finally traded it to him. Huge mistake. I bought this one (like new but used) and just never enjoyed it as much as the original. I've got a friend in Houston that loved his remake, but to me it just wasn't the same; still an excellent horn and very nice player, but the originals were something else. :) I've got an Edwards Gen II (now for sale) that is also an outstanding horn. Getzen/Edwards... they make some outstanding player. Again, thanks for commenting, Michael. Continued best wishes!

I have one of the 1960s Getzen Eterna Sevrensen Model trumpets. It belonged to my grandfather, then passed down my father, and it’s been the only trumpet I’ve used since I started. It’s beat up, anywhere your hands touch has been worn down to brass. It’s got scratched and even has a mark just below the writing on the bell where a giant dent used to be. And the slides look… less than new. But after every rehersal I still polish it. It’s may be worn down but it still keep it shining. I absolutely love that horn.

I had one of the originals for several years; they really are superb horns. :) It’s nice to hear that you treat it right… Aesthetics certainly do NOT matter if a horn plays well. :)

Sweet sounding trumpet Jonathan. I absolutely love my Eterna Severinsen from 1964. Just picked up a 300 series for a song and my gosh “what a player”. Not to mention the valves. I wondered when I would see a Getzen in your videos. I truly appreciate and share in your passion for trumpet. Thanks for inviting us in! Robert

I'm a few years older than you are. The Getzen Eterna has had a marvelous reputation for a lot of years now. I just don't want to drop that much on a new trumpet. Have you or any of your followers had a Getzen Capri? I wonder how the two sisters compare.

James, the Capri does seem well liked. I’ve got a friend with a very nice one for sale. If you’re interested in this one, let me know and I’ll give you his direct contact info, likely a slightly better cost without Reverb fees. reverb.com/item/84692726-getzen-capri-silver-trumpet-beautiful-condition?

They are challenging everyone. I think there newest horn, the Edwards X-13, retails for around $4,300 in lacquer, $300+ for the case, more for the silver plated horn... And people are paying it!!! (not me, but wealthier people) :) Getzen and Edwards are doing better than ever, I think; and I'm happy to see it.

@@paulgrimm6850 I'm one of the few, but I prefer yellow brass to rose brass or copper. I've always had a clear, sparkling (bright) sound concept, and I love the lighter yellow bells. Except for looks; and that Getzen with the dark bell is gorgeous. I've got a good friend in Dayton that had one. Loved it, but like me, he enjoys a new horn better sometimes than an old, good one. :)

Hello Jonathon - About your comment, easy blowing especially for seniors, would you say it is easier than a Mendez? I brought out my Mendez from 1961 to try comeback & found lungs not as strong as in 60's. When I bought the Mendez it was the easiest among the horns I tried, Conn Victor, Constellation, & a King. Love your reviews

@@JonathanMilam1 Hello Jonathon, I'm in Cape Coral Fl. My Mendez has great compression, determined by attempting to blow into each valve with the out tube blocked, absolutely no leak & I now use Heitman #1. The lacquer was a real mess. I have 95% stripped it and now have a beautiful yellow brass horn no dents. I have found a bit of pitting in the lead pipe near the valves. I would suppose not enough to matter but I'm not knowledgeable on that. Why didn't our teachers tell us to swab out the pipe??? After stripping I think it is more edgy. I'm trying to come back a little after quitting in 1965. Thanks for the reply.

I have another friend that just got a 50th Anniversary Strad. He's struggling with it because it is quite a bit heavier than he'd expected, and he's an older player. It's several ounces larger than his Getzen Eterna was, which is a horn I just reviewed.

@@JonathanMilam1 thank you so much. Would be lovely to hear you trying one of them. For what I've heard on the net, that horn have a fairly rich warm tone without loosing definition and brilliance. Possibly quite flexible horn. I'm considering a Getzen because the price is not so high for what they give. Only I do not find much about the technical details of them. Thanks again.

How does the Eterna 900 Classic compare with the old Getsen Eterna Doc Severinsen trumpets ?
@JonathanMilam1

Mark, they're supposed to be the same horn, just newer - and that is from Getzen. This one feels a bit tighter...But new horns are like this. They are nice and put out a great sound. New, they're certainly a bargain compared to many trumpets.
