That's my Flugel, and I love the sound that I get with it. I've been playing on the Getzen since high school. That model was played by Freddie, at on time. Great find! 🙂

Hey DB, you sound just amazing on that horn - as if your sound needed to be any darker and creamier! I play a later model 896 four-valve Getzen Eterna. A good deal came up, and I had my doubts about a .460" flugel, considering I prefer M bore (.445") trumpets, but I have loved playing on it over the past 6 months or so. I do have a question about how you record flugelhorn, so that the mic captures the darkness and smokiness more accurately. Any tips on mic placement or settings? Thank you!

Sounds great Sam, I have a video on my Channel about recording the trumpet. Please check it out it's the exact same thing for Flugelhorn. dB sends Love and Respect to you

I’ve had one of those for years and I have a love hate relationship with it. It has a beautiful sound like you just proved. BUT it is like wrestling an alligator when I play it. Intonation is surprising good but the large bore (.460) for a flugelhorn beats me up. A monster like Freddie could play it like a toy,but maybe it’s just me, it drains me when I play it for an extended period of time. Thanks for posting all of your videos are awesome!!!!

Tom, thanks for interacting. Large Bore horns most definitely can be a challenge. I'm sure you make that baby sing. ❤️❤️

Hey DB did you keep the Getzen E? I have just gotten one and have been playing it a bit. I love how easy it is to play pedal tones

Yes Steve I still have it and love it. Great to hear from you. ❤️

I believe that Getzen once made a 4 valve flugelhorn. I think Thad Jones played one. I hear you on getting a 'flugelhornish' sound on trumpet. I find a V cup mouthpiece helps.

Hi Bill thanks for interacting. Getzen did make a four valve Eterna Flugelhorn. I really don't play flughorn that much but I definitely do try to get a flugelhornish sound on the trumpet, 💯🎺❤️

@@AllThingsBrassAndTechnology I hear you. I once owned a Martin Imperial fllugelhorn, which is what Miles played on "Miles Ahead." It had a very small bore and the mouthpiece had a fairly sharp rim. It didn't have much of a Clark Terry sound, which was the sound I had in my ear at the time. I traded it in on a Yamaha 631, which I like very much. But, like you, I mostly play trumpet.
