Great video Gavin! I currently own a 1999 (NB1) Miata, and owned a 1992 (NA) back in the mid 1990s. A few comments for you: (1) if you enjoy the car, and can afford to keep it as a second car, do so. I've had ~35 cars over the past 34 years, and selling my 1992 Miata was my one regret. This led me to embark on a 3 year search (2015-2018) culminating in my purchase of my 1999. I sold my 1992 after heavily modifying it for the track, and then purchasing a Porsche 944 also for track use; since that time I've owned a Boxster, an early 911, and currently a 997.2S... but I still wanted a Miata again. (2) upgrades tires - I replaced the cheap non-name tires with an inexpensive set of Dunlop summers with a 420 treadwear rating - not stickies. Having less stick means lower limits, which means more fun at lower speeds. I did recently change my wheels to 7.5" wide vs the 6.0" factory 15s, and this improved responsiveness greatly. suspension - this summer, after extensive research and some internet debate, I installed Koni Yellow shocks, Tein S-tech springs, and FCM sport bump stops. Unless you are going to spend big $$$ on premium coilovers (that you don't need unless you track extensively) I recommend either this setup or the similar Flyin' Miata package. My car sits about 1" lower, rides very comfortably, doesn't bottom out (and I live in an area with rough, winter-damaged roads). I was originally intending to install aftermarket swaybars, but I'm not sure that I want/need that.

The NB was the first car I bought two years ago. The car was owned for 13 years by a car mechanic who took good care of it and I gave the car to my mother because I didn't had a driving license at the time and wasn't planning to get one. Corona changed everything and I made my license and got a Volkswagen up!, a fun little city car with only 59 bhp.... perfect to learn stick. I live in Germany in the Eifel, with fun twisty narrow country roads and the NB is made for it. It's a normal 1.6 in silver, without any collector's value... which means I can change some things on the NB without losing much value. And for me the 110 hp is enough, most roads are limited to 50, 70 or 100 km/h and in that range the car is so much fun. My mother is retired, she loves sports cars and is not angry with me if I modify it a bit.

My NB1 is my first ever car. I love him so much! Everyone always complements my car. I had friends and neighbors asking me if I would ever sell the car even strangers asking how much I bought it for 😂. It was taken great care of. I bought my NB from a local Miata only dealership. It is an automatic though so I got it for cheaper for that reason. Don’t plan on doing any crazy modifications on it, just a roll bar for safety. I like my little guy bone stock. I feel like it makes it unique compared to most Miatas nowadays. 💜

I have 2001 NB-6spd and I heard you comment about idle and stalling issues that occur infrequently. IMO, experience tells me you maybe dealing with a cam positioning sensor. This sensor is hard to pin down regarding diagnostics (won't show up) and these things may last for years until it finally fails. The sensor wires for the attachment are engine bay dirty causing your intermittent problem and/or the sensor itself may eventually need replacement. I replaced and haven't looked back...

One of my second 'proper' cars was an NB MX5 / Miata. Same colour as this one, but 2003, so 16in Wheels vs these 15s. then 'upgraded' it to a Lotus Elise (amazing car), then an Mazda Mk3, M3 Convertible (also pretty damn fine - apart from it not being the coupe) and then a Focus ST. Safe to say i bought another NB Mx5 because out of all those nice Cars I've had, the mk2 Mazda was by far the best balanced driving tool I've owned. the best balance of Speed/Handling/Grip/Practicality out of all of them. Just wish they didn't rust so much!

I saw a silver one posted, a 2003. For $3500, really nice condition. Gone in two hours. I messaged the dude and he was like, "Someones already coming down from Cleveland to get it." It's funny cause when I bought a Imola Yellow VW GTI last summer it was like the first time I drove stick. Only spent an hour with a manual. I got to drive the thing home. It was a bit scary. I stalled it almost immediately haha. But it was a cool experience I was like, learning as I went. I frickin miss the thing. I had to sell it to catch up on some bills. I really wanted to keep it. I finally got some proper seats for it and a back seat and a guy drove by and was like, 'You selling that?" and that was it. It was gone. I'm definitely getting a Miata come spring. I'm hoping I'll be able to find a clean NB2, sometime in February. I'm gonna try to find one right before the tax returns come out so the prices are down. Cause in Ohio, no ones looking for a convertible when its 10F outside. I ended up buying an 2019 STi last October when I was making more money then took a pay cut in January, after a few months, so the payments were a bit much. Also I was tired of getting 20mpg so I traded it in for 2018 Audi A4 Premium Plus. I got an auto so. Right now I have no manual car and it's boring. I love the Audi though for road trips, commuting and such. It does a lot of things well and it's super comfy, not very slow (about 5.2 to 60) and it gets 36mpg on the highway cause of the 7th gear. But it's not exactly a drivers car. It took me a few months to figure out rev matching and the timing and such but once you've driven one manual for awhile you can drive like any manual really. We have a lot of nice country roads out here where I live so excited to have something I can enjoy on the backroads. Doesn't have to be fast, just something fun to drive and take everything in.

It’s funny, we both have similar stories. I bought my 03 about 6 months ago. About 2 hours away from home, new to stick, had a few nerve racking hiccups with the cruise control. I payed about the same for mine with 145k on it, although it came with a factory matched hardtop (garnet red).
@lukeagajanian58153 жыл бұрын
Also, my car had excessive wind noise with the soft top that it wasn’t with the hardtop. You can adjust the soft top latches, but I actually fixed it by pulling the door panels out and bumping up the height of the windows when they’re rolled up. Something to try if that’s ever an issue 👍

Not to mention co workers compliment on it a lot and wanna go for a drive thinking its a ferrari. @GavinRemme Жыл бұрын
I haven’t spun out, but I have slid before in a roundabout on new asphalt in heavy rain. It just requires you to be paying attention and know how to react if it does happen. I would not recommend it to someone who texts and drives a lot, is distracted, etc. Having tires with good wet performance will probably affect this a lot too, which mine probably aren’t the best.
