@@cudgee7144 Yes, I feel we have lost our identity as a nation. Perhaps the city is now a reflection of a totally screwed world, but I too, now avoid a place I used to adore. My sense of loss, obviously like yours too, is painfully sad. Something about, “My cake is melting in the rain, I’ll never find the recipe again.”

I remember so well getting off the train at Flinders and just being swept along. No one dared walk on the right and there were lines painted on the footpath. Us women wore high heels and by the time I'd get into work my feet would be throbbing but you daren't say anything. Does anyone else remember the tea trolley? Morning tea break, cuppa tea and a biscuit by the tea lady. No takeaway coffees then.
@cudgee7144
@cudgee7144 3 жыл бұрын
Yes i remember the tea trolley, and everyone having a chat, not staring mindlessly at a mobile devise. This so called coffee culture has taken away Melbourne's soul. It seems like every second shop is now some sort of coffee/food outlet, hardly any shops as you and i knew, why would you want to go into the city. And the amount of rubbish blowing around the streets from some of these take-away joints is disgusting.
@davidharlem6824

Yes, I remember the tea trolley and the lady who gave us our morning tea. My then girlfriend sometimes used to serve morning tea when the tea lady (May) was ill. Guess what - I married that gorgeous young girl and we have been together for forty-nine years. Love her more as each day passes.

Maybe Sally Capp should watch this and work out where it all has gone wrong. Tram superstops and concrete barriers on roads, bike 'roads' (they are not lanes) everywhere, food delivery bikes everywhere. I was a copper in Melbourne in the late 80's, traffic and people moved and flowed in the old city. I drove through there this weekend and made the same comments posted here how it is rubbish now. Great video, good song choice, good memories (even all those train strikes and no airconditioning on trains was good memories). Mick

Peter Goodwin Awesome memories, back when it was a real treat to go to the city. Every time a new ugly building goes up a bit more of Melbourne becomes unliveable and unfortunately it's spreading into the suburbs. Melbourne really has lost what made it special😔
@petergoodwin2465
@petergoodwin2465 3 жыл бұрын
@@shaneferlazzo6157 so true mate, I used to love Melbourne but now it's a conjested gridlocked third world city. The suburbs are just as bad , they jam thousands of houses into small area's and build no roads . If they wanted mass imigration they needed to build another city to cope with it or better still have low imigration numbers. They destroyed Australia just to keep a few greedy traitors happy. They get Rick out of it all while we suffer and foot the bill.

Hey Mick, I was young cop stationed at what used to be City West police station in William street in the early 80’s. I even did point-duty at the Flinders / Swanston st intersection with City patrol in Flinders lane. Melbourne used to be so easy to drive around back in the those days. During my time Docklands was actually working dock lands, there used to be Vic Dock police station down there, and Flinders st extension was all the railway freight yards……Nowadays I avoid the city like the plague.
