I made the mistake of coming down here early.... wtf I might stop watching because names make me irrationally mad I have a deep cultural name shared by ancient Irish and ancient Persian cultures (idk how they shared a name between those 2 cultures but cool, I'm a "little oak" not a "to possess good fortune" i.e. Irish heritage, not Persian, duh I glow in the dark I'm so white lol) so I'm used to name discrimination on both a personal and professional level (I've applied with my middle name which is the name of an archangel and gotten job offers I was denied earlier) so I have some strong opinions, however I'm also an oak tree, meaning a druid, a pagan, so I feel names have deep connections, if nothing else you are branding an object with an indelible mark, it is not a task to be taken lightly. I'm also an avid linguist and anthropologist.... anyway I take names serious as fuck but like in a fun chaotic pagan way lol not in a drab heraldry way

The wedding story: when the MoH said that it was awkward your boyfriend was in the hotel room and it made “everyone” uncomfortable, that’s when you ask her to explain exactly why it was awkward for anyone else because you’re just not understanding. Watch her try to explain her reasoning and just flounder into the most illogical thought processes. You just say, hmmm, ok? And stop talking to her.

@@PinkCatsy because in their view the boyfriend was just waiting at the hotel all day for the wedding to finish, which they think is an unpleasant experience that they are, albeit indirectly, responsible for, as they didn't invite him. We get the benefit of OPs perspective where it's clear the bf didn't mind but I can see how it could be awkward without that perspective. Vibrantly colored toys in a nursery are quite beneficial for an infant's cognitive development. They assist infants by drawing their attention, which can make them focus on given objects. Toys with varying textures and solidity can help children develop occupational skills to build dexterity, and making them vibrantly colored just makes them focus on the toy. Early exposure to more vibrant colors can also help teach children to deal with environments that are highly visually stimulating. EDIT: While the "Sad Beige" aesthetic may not be all that harmful in the long run, studies have shown that children raised without much variance in visual stimuli during infancy have had issues with visual overstimulation as well as minor issues with focusing. A fair compromise for any beige enthusiasts reading this would be to have the room fit your preference, but accept that the toys should probably be more colorful so that your child can develop under desirable conditions.

@MrMadMister1 I don't have a source I can directly link as my own knowledge on the subject stems from my extended family, many of whom became doctors or nurses. That being said, one should also be careful of going the complete opposite direction since too many vibrant colors can also lead to irritability and distress in infants. That's why it is recommended to have colorful toys, but a more subdued environment.

As someone whose child support needs were never met, i can confirm that if child support was court-demanded and was not provided, the DSS will in fact get that money out of the guy one way or another. My father got out of it when i was a kid by running away and then getting arrested, but even though I'm now 30 HE STILL HAS TO PAY IT because my mother was guaranteed it by law and since he didn't pay back then, he still owes it now. Turning 18 ONLY stops child support payments if you _paid them_ the first time around when they were requested. So he still owes my mom (and therefore me) $16k.

13:55 Colours are an important part of childhood development so not wanting colourful toys because they ruin your aesthetic is kinda gross. Plus, toys in the 1800s were colourful. Even before we had the science of today to back it up, we’ve always observed children liked colourful things. And even before traditional coloured toys we had toys made of different coloured wood, or with plant dyes, or different colours of clay, or literally just cool sticks with moss on them. Children are living creatures that need mental stimulation, not mushy dolls for you to pose around your sterile beige house.
@MistieHollow

Adding to this, 1800s was also when there were no child labor laws and people had a lot of kids because they didn't have the certainty that any of them would make it to adulthood. They were just happy with what they had and when they had time to enjoy it. It's easier to see with those in better situations did actually have a preference for colours. Reading books from that time period like Anne of Green Gables, she was very much disappointed in getting brown or muted muddy coloured clothes.

My opinion on the freeway prank one. I dont think the freeway, with vehicles (specially if in US) that weight up to tons, is the time or place to "prank" or "surprise" someone, doing something unexpected on the road is the way to cause accidents. I dont know what the rules are on US, but where i live, if you see a vehicle trying to switch to your lane, you SHOULD NEVER speed up your car, just maintain your speed, as its the most expected thing to do.

Yeah, that's how it is in the US, too. If someone is passing you, then you need to maintain speed for safety. And it was really dangerous of her, because you eventually have to look away from your blind spot so you can watch ahead of you--if you think it's clear and start to move and then someone speeds up suddenly? That's how deadly accidents happen. At 7am rush hour, that could mean a 5 or 6 car pile-up. So dangerous! But, he could have absolutely responded to her text. I think this depends entirely on whether OP had their turn signal on. Wanting to change lanes and signaling to change are so different, and the post makes it ambiguous as to whether his intentions were clear to all other drivers on the road. I gotta be honest, even though the husband in the freeway story probably acted a little colder than one would have liked, _a prank on the freeway is a stupid place to "show love"._ Personally, I don't think that kind of behavior should be encouraged, and actually think the wife should be the first one to be apologetic in this story before the husband. He probably should have responded to the text, or at least had a serious but calm conversation about how he felt later in the day, but I think it could have been considered a "silent treatment" response to something that actually shook him up pretty badly. If it gets his wife to understand that what she did was genuinely dangerous, I can't blame him for acting the way he did.

No it isn’t. If giving your child a name that is confusing to others is borderline abusive, a large number of immigrant parents would be considered abusive based on the fact that children might bully their kid for their name. I knew a guy from Vietnam named Phat, and kids bullied him for it. I knew another kid from Israel named Nimrod (after a character in the Bible/Torrah) and he was bullied too. Would it have been easier for those kids if their names weren’t Phat or Nimrod? Yeah, but their parents weren’t abusive or assholes for naming him that, the kids bullying him were the assholes. You might say this doesn’t apply here because the woman in the story is not an immigrant and thus is aware of the culture and naming conventions of the U.S., but that also doesn’t make her abusive. During the civil rights movement, many black parents in the U.S. began giving their children unique names as a way of pushing against the white status quo. Children with more “black-sounding” names are less likely to be picked for jobs, are more likely to be discriminated against for things like banking or getting loans, and are often bullied if they go to majority white schools. Many parents who give their children these names know or suspect this. But are they abusive for giving their children those names? No, the people bullying them and discriminating against them are the assholes.

Ok, for baby names, if the baby is already born and the name is a done deal, then you hold it in cause it ain't changing. If the baby hasn't been born yet, then you must be as honest as possible because people need to know if close family are going to have an issue with the name. That said you shouldn't let your family push you around either if you really like a name and there isn't anything particularly wrong with it.

Regarding the post of the wife freeway prank: 1. Wife's prank was dangerous, and she needs to understand why it was inappropriate, regardless of her intention. 2. Husband may not have been able to process so many things at once, including the surprise realization that his wife had been the one adding to his frustration and stress on the actual freeway, making him nearly miss his exit to work. I'd completely understand why, on top of all that stress and mental input, that he didn't have the wherewithal to, I guess, force a smile at the wife he was suddenly and understandably annoyed at. He reacted in an honest way, and that's not wrong. But he ideally would have called/texted his wife once he got to work, letting her know they needed to talk about the incident later. Just leaving it hanging like it did, especially after she texted, was not great. 3. Husband was an insensitive jerk for assuming his wife was kidding about being sad. That's bad husbanding right there. Never disregard your partner's feelings. He should have at least asked to confirm whether or not she was being serious, not assume she wasn't. 4. Both of them are valid for feeling the way they did. Her, hurt that he wasn't happy to see her, and him, annoyed at her for inconveniencing him and putting him and others in danger on the road. Feelings are always valid, and they should always be treated as such by anyone who cares to maintain a healthy relationship and solve issues together. I also think that intention is important to communicate and take into account when discussing actions that upset us. Even so, everyone should learn to take accountability for when their actions negatively impact others, regardless of intent or whether their own feelings were hurt. I think the best way to go about addressing this would've been for both of them to take turns listening and communicating their feelings that night and explain their reasoning and perspective, then do their best to understand the situation from the other's POV. A statement like "I can see why you felt that way/thought that" can go a long way to resolving a conflict. And following that, a statement like "I also need you to understand how it affected me," can lead to open, non-accusatory, productive discussions and conflict resolution. Being able to listen and see each other's perspectives and respect them, while being able to take accountability and self-reflect on how our actions affect others, is super important for being a good person and a good partner.

Depending on how much that is, I suppose the wife could make up the extra if it didn't equal the amount of child support, but I HIGHLY doubt that's the case with the sheer amount of his assets.

TL; DR below As someone with an ungodly long name, NTA, screw your sister, her child will hate it, everyone will judge it, and nothing good comes from it. I'm going into teaching and I'm shortening my full name from 29 letters to 19 (Keeping 7 letter 1st name, Middle name is 8 letters but I like it) because I refuse to have students 1) mispronounce the last name that shows both sides of my family, 2) Come up with a shitty nickname, and most importantly, 3)spell it incorrectly/ask me how to spell it constantly. My last name doesn't fit on tests, credit/debit cards, and my college id is bursting at the seams. I understand that people need to be tactful about this, but if/when my friends come to me with a long name for their baby, I will be letting them know my thoughts because it's what their kids will think. Deadass on my first day of kindergarten, my teacher asked my mom why she would do that to her, as a joke, but all good jokes are rooted in truth, right? As a younger sibling, my last name made it very clear who my sister was, and most teachers didn't like me either because she didn't do well/misbehaved, expected me to do the same, and acted like it OR be disappointed with me because she's way more sociable than I am and that's what they expected. I hated moving high schools, but it was the first taste of freedom that every kid dreams of, because I was finally Junie B. Jones (Edit to add: Fake name), not Barbara Jones's younger sister. The upsides of having a long and unpronounceable last name are few and far between, but the struggles are almost daily. TL; DR: The only good thing about a long and extremely individualized name is that no one is going to try to commit identity theft on you. Don't hyphenate your kids' names.

And a majority of people will still spell it wrong. I've had more people than I'd like to admit even mispronounce my name too. The most crazy one I had was someone thinking I said my name was "Jan Etwaves" (again - fake name, but fits the similar structure of how they repeated it back to me). really - there's nothing you can do to make your name bulletproof. There's always someone out there that'll make you spell your name for them including pizza places and doctor's offices.

On the child support one: The estate of the deceased inherits all legal responsibilities of the deceased. Therefore, if the husband owed child support to the ex-girlfriend, the estate also owes it, regardless of who maintains it. As such, the OP or whoever is acting as the executor for the estate would be legally obligated to continue to make child support payments on behalf of the deceased unless otherwise negotiated in court. OP is breaking the law and could be sued for back payments by the ex-girlfriend and/or the other child. Any and all legal obligations of the deceased take precedence over any bequests of the deceased outlined in their will, and in most jurisdictions gets special precedence over other forms of debt as well.

The father's estate would inherit the debt he owed in child support payments. It isn't a choice, for the widow or her late husband. That money would be earmarked for the daughter before any of them see any inheritance. I assume, with the recency of the death, the widow has yet to contact a lawyer regarding the estate. Withholding those payments would be the easiest, slam dunk lawsuit in history for any half way decent lawyer, that is if she even can. If the estate is in the hands of the attorney, she will likely not even be in control of the estate, until his debts, including the child support, are paid. I hope she tries to block the child support payments, so the child can get more money out of her scumbag father.

I think him seeing the text of her saying she's sad and going "Oh, she's just joking" and not responding was the mistake. If he thought it wasn't serious, he could have at least responded with, "Who made you sad?" and when she said it was him, he could just go, "Be right back. I'm gonna make him apologize!" and then 5 mins later, apologize. Just to keep things light, but also give her the acknowledgement she was hinting for

Pranks/jokes doing anything to get the attention of (read: distract) another driver is dangerous and stupid. Period. Anything other than attentive, road safe behavior is stupid. Period. The wife said in text that she was sad, but like… _I’d_ read that as something like ‘aww, I’m sorry you didn’t see me/like my joke’. I wouldn’t actually believe that she was genuinely sad, because it’s over something so small and _ALSO SOMETHING STUPID AND DANGEROUS SHE SHOULDN’T HAVE DONE._ The husband isn’t the asshole for rightfully feeling grumpy over a prank like that, and he isn’t the asshole for not realizing she was expressing serious emotion over such a childish, stupid thing to do. The wife should be apologizing for playing stupid games, not making it about _her_ feelings.

@@jenniferlow166 exactly! _And_ then making it about herself, after the fact. Very immature, and I disagree with all the comments saying her feelings should be coddled. Yes, the husband should care about how she feels, but when an adult makes an immature mistake, they shouldn’t be babied about the consequences of that. Support your spouses in their growth, people, don’t enable their bad choices.

The one with the mom giving her kid a weird name, that’s not even like the biggest red flag. It’s good for children’s development to play with colorful toys, it helps to teach them to recognize colors and such. Condemning a growing child to a colorless existence is actively detrimental. Not to mention some sad beige moms as they’re called will buy normal toys and paint over them with “non-toxic” beige paint, which can chip off easily and be swallowed as opposed to the original color imbedded in the plastic. Crazy shit man

In regards to the naming of the baby: (around 17:00 ish) My mom literally renamed my oldest cousin because my aunt gave him a shitty name. My mom didn't say it was for any bad reason. She was introduced to by cousin was told his name, and she went "Nope, I don't like that. It's Jake now." And everyone just kind of followed suit. Hell, he was going back and forth on legally changing it for a bit.

In Poland there is a thing called "spadkobranie przeciwtestamentowe", which loosely translates to "receiving inheritance against the written will". Sometimes children and family members may be eligible to receive some portion of inheritance (following the same rules of inheritance as if there was no will written, and that's very strictly regulated who gets how much and so on in case of a lack of a will), and if someone received less than they are "supposed to" or especially if they are completely excluded, that can be contested in court and the judge will decide on a case to case basis. This exists mainly for the sake of scenarios where e.g. someone had children but during the last few years met a new partner and that partner totally wooed that person, wrapped around their finger, manipulated, and made them write a will that screws over the children or something. It's mainly for such clearly unfair scenarios, but it's up to a judge to decide how they see a given case. So IDK if this girl's case would win or not, but if the law where she is is similar, then IMO she should contest the will in court and the judge will decide who's the AH and who gets how much, following the letter of the law.

Brookleeigh sounds like Broccoli. Nah. Also! Sorry I'm also judgey of the beige moms. Its science that babies need colors to help form connections in their brain and I feel like could be child abuse if the kid isn't able to express themselves/taught not to. With the child support thing; they need to refile, my mom and dad were divorced when I was 3 but once my dad died when I was 10, we got a loss of parent-type child support (idk exactly its name, I was 10,) until I was 18. Pretty sure since the 16y/o's mom is still taking care of his child and he is dead, they would get that too, not from him personally, but from the government as a form of aid.

Ok, here is my hot take on the driving story. What in gods logical sense whould anyone find that shit cute. No, its dangerous, dangerous! It doesn't matter weather it was random person or, someone i know. Its worse if its a loved one. You risked your life, my life and possibly someone else with that stupid stunt of yours. You could have went texting saying " yo, i just saw on the road today, wanted to let you know it was nice to see you there." For context, people who i cared about got into accidents because they are not paying attention on the road. Weather or not it was good intention does not matter if you are driving a large hunk of fucking metal. I would be pissed and be sending texts saying that would go badly. Not to do that again cause i can not bear the thought of either of us getting hurt. Also her saying she was sad that he didnt acknowledge her. Wow, she is dense as all hell.

I have always loved cozying up and hanging out at nice hotel. Sometimes you just need a break from the mundane with out a commitment to a full vacation. Watching TV at a hotel is like an experience in itself. They still have basic cable (maybe HBO) which is like being in a Time Machine. I haven’t had cable since the dawn of subscription based entertainment. Sure, I could still queue up a movie on my laptop, but it takes away from the experience. 8:56

So I found your channel a few weeks ago, and for starters, you're hilarious and you have a very unique spin on how you do your channel. And you're always so wholesome, I don't hear you using a lot of profanit. But that is not what I wanted to say, I wanted to say that I have picked up on a few things I just wanted to share to bless you with a heartfelt compliment. Truly, you are going to make some lovely person a very happy spouse one day! Seriously, you are going to be a fantastic husband, and father should life ever present you with those opportunities. It is so refreshing seeing someone so genuine as you are, and seemingly well adjusted in the sense of being practical when thinking about things and accessing things accurately, not too emotionally, logically. Anyways, you are a really awesome person and yeah, I can only imagine you bring a lot of richness to all of your personal relationships.

The girl who took her bf to the hotel while she went to a wedding? So dumb the MoH got mad about that. I've literally done that with my best friends. Two of my best friends were invited to a wedding in Chicago and we decided to make a weekend of it. We explored the city the day before and after the wedding, and I chilled at the hotel during the wedding and was their designated driver so they could drink. Was a great trip and nobody cared, we even ran into the bride at the hotel breakfast (I had only met her once before) and she chatted with us before going back up to the room to get ready for the wedding.

In the last story, both the OP and particularly her late husband seem like major assholes. Leaving a 16-year-old child to struggle financially while you have almost a million dollars is cruel. You could have given her something minimal at least. I especially think that the late man was a really bad person. Ditching his gf for "not being ready" to be a father (but still being ready to have unprotected sex), seeing his daughter for "once in every couple of years" and then *explicitly* asking for his daughter not to be included in his inherritance! Actually, those I feel mostly sorry about are their kids (6 and 3 years old) who have an uphill struggle not to grow up as selfish pricks like their parents.
