I think you're actually the first reactor I've seen to have picked up on how Charlotte was feeling during this audition; all the others focus completely on Jonathon, and are oblivious to the effects of the passive shade thrown at her, and how stoic she is about holding it together in spite of that. This is my very most favorite BGT moment ever! I was showing it to people years ago and watching them react to it........haha...now I'm watching people on KZbin. Unfortunately not too many have found it. I saw a video they did later......I don't know if it was their next BGT appearance.....but Charlotte knew she'd come in to high in the first part and it didn't sound the best. She's very good, but Jonathan is truly world-class. I always wondered if he had a bit of a crush and if he'd had more confidence if more would have happened between the two....but they were very young, also.

Actually Neil Murray. .......Charlottes mike wasn’t turned down Jonathan voice booms, at that age he didn’t perform with a mike so he drowned her out. They did turn her mike up to match Jonathan range. In this performance Charlotte was in the incorrect octave.

@@mzpatintexas8329 I went to see Jonathan perform live a couple of years ago. He held the microphone so far away from him that I'm pretty sure I was mostly just hearing his voice un-amplified. He has a phenomenal voice. But having said that, Charlotte is also pretty good, just not quite in the world beating class of Jonathan. She's more of a musical theatre singer, but still a pretty good one.

My personal opinion, I do kinda agree with Simon. Don't get me wrong, Charlotte is great. This was not the song that really showcased her voice, I love the second song they sing on the show together. That really showed off her talent a lot better. There just isn't that many songs that they can do together. They could definitely go a lot farther as 2 solo artists, rather than a duo.

I used to think Simon could be too unkind, but later decided false hope is far more cruel. Simon knows his stuff and he calls them as he sees them. Who could listen to that audition and not be aware that a voice like Jonathan's comes along once in a generation and only if we're lucky? The duet would have to end eventually or Jonathan would never acheive his destiny. However, nothing needs to end the friendship.

Say what you will about Simon, he is brutally honest. Charlotte is a good performer but honestly Jonathan is on another level. If you check his newer videos, you'll notice a phenomenal improvement from 2012. As he matures he just keeps getting better.

@Wendy Green In all honesty, Simon was just being honest - harsh, but honest and, quite frankly, and unfortunately, that harshness is what performers in acting, dance and music, both vocal and instrumental, are subject to. In fact all the arts carry the same harshness from executives and critics. They are merciless. To them it's business and they don't find it necessary to be concerned about the artists' self esteem. If you are going for a career in the arts, you'd be well advised to develop a thick skin because you're definitely going to need it.

They did not too badly on bgt (Simon even apologised. Really!) After coming in 2nd on final, they recorded 3 or 4 albums together. Then, they mutually decided to split. He has gone on to have a maturing voice, that he can control outrageously. He has several other videos here on YT. Maybe check them out.

Abby ,.... Simon did apologize to Charlotte. Jonathan and Charlotte recorded 2 albums Together’ and Perhaps Love’. Charlotte recorded a solo album , Jonathan 4 solo albums ,.. two of which were released in 2020. Jonathan is now 26 years old , Charlotte is 25 years old and performing musicals on stage.

She knew she would hold him back one day but she also knew she had to get him to that point. The selfish thing to do would have been to try and ride his coattails.

Mmm I guess she was the sacrifice their music teacher decided to make to help the boy. The song choice was picked cause it fit perfectly for him and the mistakes she did made it a little bit worse for her. I dont think Simon was being rude either by telling him to dump her, he just wanted to direct him to the best path. In the end Im glad to see they're both doing well.

No she wasn't the sacrifice. It was her plan. In school she was doing her music lesson and could hear Jonathan singing in the next room and she had to find out who that voice belonged to. Then their teacher had them sing "The Prayer" at her wedding so they had already sung it together. Charlotte was the one to fill out the BGT application but didn't tell Jonathan until last minute because he was still in a dark place and they didn't know how he would react. Charlotte said BGT had always been her dream but was Jonathan's nightmare. It's a blessing he agreed to do it.
