Greetings in the name of Christ Jesus our Lord. 15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16 Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 17 And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I served with many who had the same story. Especially overseas where they could cheat on spouses or party all the time. I led a Bible study in the barracks after Christ called me. Not bragging, but the point is that once you stray with those who are not saved, it’s almost embarrassing to share Christ with them because you look like a lying fool. To God be the glory for your salvation.

@@ExploringAlabama the Apostle Paul went through the same thing. He went from persecuting the church and wasting it to proclaiming “I have a desire to depart and be with Christ which is far better.” Christ changes our desires, so much so, we hate the very spot of sin. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

I’d heard all these things my entire life in church! And they never made sense to me! I’ve asked so many Christian elders in my family these questions and never heard an answer that made sense. So what Voddie is saying does make sense and it’s actually comforting! Because it does make sense! It all fits! And scripture interprets scripture. That’s also how it makes so much more sense! It answers so many of my questions. Like all those times I prayed asking Jesus to come into my heart as a kid, a teenager, an adult… why nothing at all happened! My brother, my son and so many of us have discussed this and I never really knew what to tell them. Thank you Voddie Baucham for explaining this! These are deadly lies in the church that need to have a spotlight shown on them

I am so very grateful for Pastor Baucham's clear explanation of the difference between "Once saved always saved" and the perseverance of the Saints or endurance of the elect. I've been searching for a better way of sharing this doctrine. After growing up and remaining with Arminianist assemblies for several decades, I finally studied soteriology more precisely. It's amazing how the truth makes all true doctrine more lucid, interlocking all of the bible's teaching together as a complete picture. When I heard the term "Calvanism" treated as if it were some word of cursing, I prayed and studied until the verasity of reformed theology illumined my understanding of God's eternal plan with Him being sovereign over everything, including salvation. His work, along with His word is certain, never failing and eternal. So, l if I am indeed among the elect of God, I have great assurance! Understanding GRACE, I know I can never be good enough or righteous enough on my own. But having the righteousness of Christ imputed to me, I know it can never be taken away. No one and nothing can snatch me out of the Father's hand. So, the issue becomes, am I TRULY in Christ, regenerated, born of the Spirit, OR NOT? John's 1st epistle offers a means to "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you-unless, of course, you fail the test?" 2 Cor. 13:5

I can write a book on the sins I have commited and were a great burden on my mind. I knew scripture...I knew the Lord, but was ashamed and conscious of the kind of person I was. I talked to my parish priest about confession but guilt and maybe pride kept me away for months. The burden became greater and after service the priest and I talked and I broke down in tears and had my confession. Brother, I will tell you that fear went away and I felt a great weight off my heart and mind. It is us who keep ourselves and the devils darts of accusation from our God's grace and His immeasurable love for us. We...you, are the lost sheep, and the Lord is always looking for us. We are sometimes unsure and confused and thus keep running away, when we should be running towards His voice. When you hear His voice...run to Him. You are a spiritual son and He is your Father who will never forsake you. We must confess to Him and He is faithful to forgive us. God bless you.

They'll tell you to "make that decision for Jesus and let him into your heart" right now where you stand, while making that decision for you with their infamous "repeat after me: Dear Jesus, I know I'm a sinner..." prayer that apparently "guarantees your eternal life regardless of how you live". Imagine if that's how cardiologists or cardiac surgeons got their degrees: "repeat after me: I believe I'm a cardiologist and a cardiac surgeon..." now you're a professional go and operate on people. So is thinking you’ve done good enough every day to earn your salvation, or thinking you haven’t. If you could lose your salvation you would. Endurance is not sin free, it’s a life constant daily repentance.
@jixxytrix17052 ай бұрын
@@ExploringAlabama I agree. That is always the straw man argument that the people with your doctrine counter with. Forget sin and works of the law. A believer must bear fruit and keep the faith in order to complete the race. Hebrews 6 talks about falling away. Bearing briers and thorns. People with your doctrine always change the wording to 'lose your salvation'. That allows for a reinterpretation of the meaning. Falling away isn't about righteousness, it's about unbelief. Check out Hebrews 4. If you don't keep the faith, you fall away, and you fall into unbelief. Sin is of course no laughing matter. Scripture somewhere talks about 'the deceitfulness of sin'. Spiritual principles apply. Darkness darkens.
@Angie-v4r2 ай бұрын
I love how you nailed what "falling away" really means/indicates: not unrighteousness or sin, but unbelief. I can't imagine a person who truly believes falling away without coming back. The question would forever haunt the innermost rooms of their mind.
@jixxytrix17052 ай бұрын
@@Angie-v4r I don't really get what you mean when you write that you can't imagine. I don't know how to take it.. When you go by what Hebrews 6 says, it states that a person can receive the Holy Spirit, and that it's impossible to bring them again to repentance if they fall away, which of course means that they once had repented. I see two possibilities. Either that person still thinks they're saved, or they conclude that what they believed earlier was a delusion. Scripture does show us that spiritually blind people, like the Pharisees, enjoy proclaiming their eye sight. I've talked to Muslims a lot. They start with 'Islam is the truth' and then bend all of reality to make it fit, and it gets tragically hilarious at times. Have you heard the argument about the Quran being God's word based on the contrived fact that cats won't step on one? Laugh or cry, make your choice. The human mind is capable of anything. I've thought a lot about this topic. It's hard to know exactly when a person has fallen away. I know one guy that told me that he, as he puts it, 'walked away' and then came back, and he seems perfectly sincere. I don't know though. But some verses I think are important to add are the one about 'a bruised reed he will not break and a faintly flickering flame he will not quench', the ones about God being longsuffering, the flood in the days of Noah, and the judgment on Sodom. I don't think falling away is an easy process . What do you think?

I think what people should know is that the version of "eternal security" Voddie is talking about is definitely Biblical but a little incomplete. I wish he would have mentioned how one can receive the Holy Spirit and NOT be saved as described by "eternal security" as presented here. Proof: remember the folks who actually cast the devils out in Jesus HAD the ability to do so because of the Holy Spirit yet Jesus still said He never knew them! Also, Hebrews 6:1-8 which illustrates the unforgivable blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. I pray this helps someone! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
@gyneensanders9722Ай бұрын
@CCD_106 You CAN'T receive the Holy Spirit and not be saved. The very fact that you have the Holy Spirit means you belong to God. Romans Ch. 8 states if you do not have the Holy Spirit you are not His. So how can you not be His and have the Holy Spirit. That's absurd. The reality of using God's name to do things like cast out devils is God honoring the use of His name according to His word. Not that the person using His name is known by Him or filled with His Spirit. They may not be. He honors His name not them. So they may see a move of God because they used His name which He will honor as He wills not because they are somehow holy or filled with His Spirit. So please don't be deceived. You are filled with the Hole Spirit only when you have true saving faith in Christ and His shed blood for your sin. You can't have the Holy Spirit any other way. Be encouraged

Concerning the Holy Spirit - Under the gospel of the kingdom, believers were given an external dwelling of the Holy Spirit. Under the gospel of the grace of God, we have an internal dwelling of the Holy Spirit. Gospel of the kingdom I Peter 4:14 - If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. Gospel of the grace of God Romans 8:9 - But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Confusion arises because of the combining of the gospel of the kingdom with the gospel of the grace of God.

@TheHeavenTestdotnet-gr2ou Hebrews 6:4, how does one become a "partaker of The Holy Ghost" and "taste the heavenly gift" externally? Hebrews 6:6, if they didn't have the Holy Ghost and therefore not "saved," what did they "fall away" from? And why can they not be "renewed AGAIN unto repentance" (a.k.a. saved)? Hmmm, by the comments here, the position seems to be, "they were not saved or received the Holy Ghost and now it is impossible for them to be saved or given The Holy Ghost," ooookay....
@TheHeavenTestdotnet-gr2ouАй бұрын
@@CCD_106 You read the verse that said that under the gospel of the kingdom for the Jews that the Holy Spirit "rested upon" those who believed. Many church goers do not understand the word of truth "rightly divided." Most of the people that sit in church pews are oblivious to the fact of the two gospels. I was until I found the "gospel truth." Preachers know the word of truth "rightly divided" but will not preach the truth. I asked one preacher the question - why don't you just preach the gospel of the grace of God and not combine it with the gospel of the kingdom? He replied that his congregants couldn't handle the truth. He also went on to say that they were just using the church building for their Sunday Morning Social Club. This preacher had been in prison and didn't have any fear of anyone. I believe that is why he actually “somewhat" told me the truth.” I have been trying to help my mother understand that her water baptism has nothing to do with salvation. I asked my mother's preacher to please tell her that her water baptism had nothing to do with her salvation. He declined to do so. He then told me that he didn't believe that he would go to heaven. I asked him to debate me. He turned me down and said that the debate would not work because of Hermeneutics and Exegesis. Most church goers do not know that the book of Hebrews was written for - the Hebrews (Jews). Sadly, people are confused by false teachers that combine the gospel of the kingdom with the gospel of the grace of God and then preach false gospels and false plans of salvation. Jesus called the scribes and Pharisees hypocrites because they took money from widows in exchange for praying for their dead husbands. The Catholic Church got rich doing the same thing. However, nobody calls them out. Seminary can lead people to the cemetery. God‘s word speaks for itself. That’s why we must take things in context. 10 verses before 10 verses after and maybe even the chapter before and the chapter after. We need his holy Spirit to bring us to that understanding. There’s a lot of ifs in the New Testament. Conditional upon enduring to the end. Jesus states he who overcomes? What is it that we must overcome? Is sin allowed in his kingdom? The answer is no. By God‘s grace and by his spirit and his blood, can we be cleansed and have the power to overcome sin. Can your name be blotted out of the book of life?

“Sin unto death” means sinning until you die. A believer is freed from sin. A believer cannot sin. Those who still sin, hath not seen him, neither known him. This is the Word of God.
@newhorizon13552 ай бұрын
Those that say they have no sin lie & the truth is not in them. For sin lives in our members. For the things I wish not to do, that I do, but the things I wish to do that I do not. For when we sin we have an advocate with the father. Jesus, who is our propritation, He interceseeds for us. This is also the word of God.

@@newhorizon1355 You twisted those verses to keep you in sin. You are deceiving yourself. I never said a believer has “no sin”. Only Christ has “no sin”. A believer “cannot sin”, they are freed from it. You also quoted Paul in rom 7 who was describing life “under the law”. A believer is not “under the law”. Do you still sin?

@@-Thelordismyshepherd-are you referring to perfectionism? What about Paul who rebukes Peter in Galatians? What about the repentance of the church of Corinth or the multiple churches who are rebuked in scripture? What about Lord Jesus when he says “if your brother sins against and ask for forgiveness? As far as Paul in Romans I believe he is speaking of his current battle as a believer not pre conversion. We are freed from sin through Lord Christ having the scales lifted from our eyes and the power of the Holy Spirit, but I don’t believe we are sinless after conversion. We are too weak and need constant dependence upon Lord Christ. On going repentance and growth in Sanctification.

I think I read about Yeshua knocking on the door of your heart to answer that knock.. Assurance vs being sure: it doesnt depend on whether or not you are sure about it. The sin unto death is an unbeliever that keeps resisting the Holy spirit like the farisees who said by the power of satan He (meaning jesus) casts out demons. They knew he was the son of God but they deliberately rejected that.

Regarding the last portion, could someone clarify about the sin unto death. Is Voddie saying that rejecting God is equivalent to blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? I remember one of RC’s teachings and he said blasphemy against the Holy Spirit was attributing the works of the Holy Spirit to satan, as did the pharisees in Matthew 12 for example. I look forward to your answers, blessings.

You have eternal life as long as you believe twisting the verse to mean what you want to fit your theology isn’t a good look. Eternal life isn’t an end statement to mean now and forever on this earth. If so then as a sinner before repentance that would mean you have death for eternity because hell is eternal death. So no one is really saved because we are all sinners if that’s the thought concept. You have to split the hair both ways it’s not one or the other. It means at human death if you are a believer you have eternal life waiting for you. If you are a sinner you have eternal death if you die a sinner

I'm not very smart, so maybe I'm not thinking it through, but if the sin leading to death is one that separates a man from God, doesn't that insinuate that they were together with God and now being separated? And doesn't John speak of brothers, meaning believers? How could he be speaking of brothers who lose their salvation just after he spoke of eternal life?
@francsiscog2 ай бұрын
Not only that, but everyone rejects the spirit of God every moment they do not repent. And I think it would be appropriate to pray for someone who rejects Christ today, who is still alive, that God would save them.

It is IF there is faith in the heart. Scripture is clear. “For with the heart one believes and is justified “ … I was a kid who was told to repeat the words of the prayer but I didn’t understand the gospel. That led to confusion until the Holy Spirit caused me to understand. I hope this helps someone.

Your argument doesnt hold up. I love your teachings and hardly ever find a hole in them but this one. Yeah. You said that once saved always saved is true. I disagree and not for the reason you said about walking the aisle. But this is not my point to dispute. The text states a brother, a fellow believer, who is already saved has fallen into a sin. If its the rejection of God how could that halt the once saved always saved belief? Why would they sin the sin unto death when they are not only saved but always saved. Somebody who knows that would be foolish to reject God and choose the second death. Because according to your once saved always saved they cant fling salvation back at christs feet. This second death reason you put here doesnt fit cause they are already saved. Brethren. Believers. Who didnt reject salvation but received it. Once saved always saved means there is NOTHING they can do to lose it. Especially reject the holy spirit and salvation since according to your belief that salvation has already been sealed.

I love listening to this brother but someone needs to introduce him to the work of Dr Michael Heiser because he seems to be conflating election with salvation. @1mgblues540 Voddie Baucham as one of the best preachers of our time should be introduced to Michael Heiser. With all due respect to Heiser he is not in the same league as Voddie. Now. For the life of me I don't understand how could you come up with something like Voddie is mixing those two things together. He is one of the most clear preachers on this particular issue. Listen to his sermon again. This time put smartphone aside, no distractions and listen. You won't find it there.

Whilst Vodie is giving extreme examples of the sinners prayer. The Bible meanwhile But as many as RECEIVED him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Rom 5.5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. The problem with Calvinism is that through all it's arguments it's really just Pushing TULIP. Rather than scriptual authority. That's the issue with Calvinism. Of course in reformed theology you can't have a person asking Jesus to save him. Because first they need to be one of the frozen chosen. So of course how obsurd it would be to ' ask Jesus into your heart'. Calvinsim ( Augustine) teaches insecurity for the believer, because how could you know that your one of the chosen, chosen, chosen!! Apart from ticking off all the things a good calvinist is supposed to be and do for their whole lives ( witha a ups and downs caveat of course) to find out at the end if indeed you were ever truly saved in the first place. Not to mention the terrifying doctrine of ' evanescent grace'. Look that up if you dare. No Perseverance of the saints, aka preservation of the saints is a terrible conclusion of the TULI.
