-Flathead screwdriver
-Phillip’s head screwdriver
-putty knife
-ratchet with a 9mm socket
-hammer
-wire nuts
-serrated knife (or hacksaw)

I am looking for a tutorial on how to REMOVE the top apparatus that connects to the flange in the top of the sink to the underneath apparatus, that looks quite different than the models I am seeing on your channel. This is a GFC320F. It has a black plastic cylinder that is threaded with another plastic piece that has it screwed on from underneath the sink that is attached to the flange. I managed to hammer the screw on part and loosen it, as it was impossible to unscrew, but now that I've done that, I still can't figure out how to separate the pieces to remove from the flange in the top of the sink. The metal piece that the Disposal attaches to is very different than these ones and it's the part that is preventing me from pulling the rest of it out from the top of the sink, as the flange seems to be attached to the plastic cylinder. I know I'm not making any sense. :'(

I understand perfectly what you're saying because I'm in the process of doing that myself I just removed the disposable now I'm trying to figure out how to remove the top part that's installed in the sink.

I just got it. There's a rubber washer that's underneath the metal part that you unscrewed off the disposal. Once you take the rubber washer off you can slide down the metal piece and remove the flange. I hope this makes sense.

@@JoJo-fm4tk I was struggling with this exact thing and you solved it for me. The rubber washer sits within a small groove on the bottom of the drain piece. You have to push the metal ring up enough to have the space to then pull the flexible rubber washer out of that groove. Thank you!!

If your power is supplied through armored cable, be sure to properly anchor the sheathing to the disposal housing. If the bare grounding wire is provided in the cable be sure to wrap it around the grounding post and tighten. Otherwise the appliance is not grounded safely.

Thanks much for making this video it was very helpful. One question though, I can't see where the BX cable came into contact with the metal fittings in the disposer. It was outside the access . Does this make a difference because there was no metal to metal contact?

Very clear and precise instructions. I'm 72 and I was able to do this easily. Two questions, though - 1) why didn't you attach a ground wire to the disposal and 2) what is the purpose of the thin piece of plastic you instructed us to put back over the electric wires before placing the metal cap back on. For this particular installation, since we used wiring that had that metal protective cover, also called BX cable, that cable provides the grounding needed. If we hadn't used that type of cable then we would have had to attach a grounding wire. The instruction manual that comes with your disposal should explain how to safely ground the disposal. As for the second question, in this model, it seems that extra plastic piece is just another layer of protection in case the wires were to become unattached so that they don't come into contact with the metal bottom of the disposal, which would have the potential for an electric shock. Out of several different models I have installed, this is the only model I have come across so far that had that extra plastic guard, so don't worry if your particular model didn't include it.
