Thanks for a great DIY video! I'm in the middle of installing an Insinkerator 1/2H Badger 500. The disposal was so rusted it finally froze up. It was starting to split the motor casing from the expanding rust. I had a difficult time trying to remove the split ring from the sink and rest of the pieces. Wound up using a sawzall. Once I cut the split ring, the rest of the pieces fell off in my hand. Sheeesh, what a pain! finish the rest tomorrow. Thanks again for a clear video. Nice lighting and good camera work.

I had looked at several bad videos before coming across this one. This showed me everything I needed to know. Great job explaining the complete job. As an FYI, I was able to upgrade from a Badger 5 (1/2 HP) with a BADGER 900 (3/4 HP) without having to make any plumbing modifications. Some viewers might want to know that.

Thanks for the vid. Mine started leaking last night, got a direct replacement this morning and took me about an hour replacing it. Didn't mess with the ring portion of it, just a direct swap. Oh, and used a car jack with two boards to hold it up.

Let me ask something . Do you need a trap when you install a garbage disposal? My question is cuz I gotta friend who say he was a big time plummer and the other day he said you don't need , you have to just put a elbow after the Garbage disposal thru to the pipe coming from the wall drain

this is pretty good; 2 tips: -when putting the mount back up, MAKE SURE you have the screws in correctly. duh, right? nope. if you don't do this but once every ten years, and the screws have fallen out, or been taken out...don't ask me how I know. -use some masking tape to temporarily hold the mount under the sink. -you can then easily use both hands to spread the retainer ring and put it into place....a lot easier than futzing with a screwdrive.

This is one of the great video about installing garbage disposal unit from scratch to finish. I watched several videos on this but they are not as detailed as this video. Thank you for patiently explaining all the tips in detail with such close up video and I was surprised at one point you were redoing the step again to explain or show the video with close up shots to explain it with more clarity. Thank you so much for your time and patiently explaining all the steps and this helped me replacing my dead garbage disposal unit with a new one. This is the best DIY video I've ever seen. I like some of his tips. I'm 72 years old and just had knee surgery a little over two weeks ago so the tire jack worked like a charm for me when I mounted the unit. BTW that ring was a real pain.

Most excellent presentation, however i do have a question: WIth my newly purchased insinkerator in late 2020 i found there to be yet an additional sealing gasket (black rubber) very much the same as the cardboard one that goes on the bottom side, but this was for the top side to seal @ the sink/drain assembly, is this sufficient in place of putty??

My husband and I decided to tackle this ourselves to replace our leaking Badger 500 with a new one same model. This video saved us so much money over hiring someone. Everything was so easy to understand, and love the tip on using the large screwdriver to brace the bracket when locking the disposal onto the 'ramps'. Our only issue was our new disposal was slightly different size than the old one that we were replacing, so the discharge tube wasn't lining up correctly. We did some trouble shooting and had to adjust some piping but got it to fit, and everything is working great! Thanks again so much!

There is an optional power cord that is about $16 that just plugs into a connector in the electrical cavity in the bottom of the disposal. Good job in presenting the 'how to', esp. on some of the important details. Thank you.

Thanks for telling me what to do if idiots decide to put the electrical chord into the wall. I had problems with that today. Still have not taken the chord apart, and impossible to put the rings back together without the chord out of the way. Luckily my dad is coming in the morning a plumber for 20 years, but retired, and 74. Afterwards I will just install two basins, and do not even use the original sink ever again. I'm sure you know what a basin is may as call them sink covers without the drain. Same purpose to wash things in the sink.

Since I had NEVER touched a pipe before. I didn’t know what to do with the blue thing for water tight seal. Since I didn’t know what to do with it. It took me about an hour. I googled how to fix a pipe with blue thing. Once I seen how to put it on the pipe I was finished with 5 Minutes

Easy to do unless the included elbow coming out of the disposal doesn't quite line up with the plumbing below it. If you're lucky, your kitchen's plumbing has a straight pipe going directly into the disposal. Those pipes are easy enough to replace and cut to fit to the width of the disposal.
