2500 kilometres journey from England to my hometown in Italy. After 3 days cycling in the UK I took a ferry from Harwich to Holland and followed Eurovelo 15 alone the Rhine river, with some diversions in Holland and France. I then moved to Bavaria and cycled south to Austria before crossing the Alps and arriving in my hometown of Rovereto, in the northern Italian Alps.

Most kind Peter. Those cycleways criss crossing Europe are really enjoyable and mostly flat! So far I manage to reply to comments as best as I can. @hazelisaacs2201
@hazelisaacs2201 2 жыл бұрын
@@carolleenkelmann4751 I've had my Brompton for 15 years and love it- they are worth every penny. The difference in riding style is more than made up for by the ease with which you can just put them on a train, in the back of a car / taxi / luggage rack of a bus etc. if the weather suddenly changes. Here in the UK there's a lot of lip - service about taking bikes on trains but in reality competition for space with wheelchairs, prams etc means bikes are just not a priotity or there are so many different regulations on different rail companies it can get awkward on journeys where you have to change train. With a Brompton this has never been an issue - I look up the nearest rail station to a place & set off. I'd love to have the courage for wild camping but men can get away with more than I would as a woman travelling alone!

Thank you so much for much for this amazing video! I did cycle trips in Europe and Africa had so much fun... Phillip-Neil, I should thank you for this comment. It is most inspiring to read about your motivation to get back to what you love after the accident you had. I am sure with your attitude you will find a way to do it. It also reminds me about something I try to always bear in mind; good health is not something to be taken for granted and while I am able to do what I enjoy doing I try to make the most of it and these videos are simply the result of this. Many thanks and all the best for your future adventures.

Another beautiful trip! I'm amazed at how many places you can travel safely away from cars. Here in New Jersey I take my life in my hands every time I head out because of rude and uneducated drivers. With all the sad things happening here right now this video is another example of how far we need to go as a nation.

Hi Doug, even in Europe there are differences within regions. What I followed here is a network of rides called Eurovelo which are a great way to cross Europe and are mostly on dedicated cycleways. I loved touring in the US too but as soon as you get closer to cities you are better off the bike so I know what you mean.

Your videos are simply works of art. This latest one being a prime example. You seem to go by the mantra "less is more," that is, less talk, less narration. You let your scenery, and your music, do the speaking. With very few other videographers would I spend 34 minutes - and fewer still would make videos this enchanting. Thanks.
@BromptonTraveler
@BromptonTraveler 4 жыл бұрын
You made my day Stephen! I don't think I deserve those compliments but that you liked it is already enough, thanks! I do try my best and edit videos that let the scenery speak rather than having my face splashed all over it and my voice getting in the way. Due to limitations of riding mostly solo, I do have to use those shots of my 'mug' while I ride but they are a way to bring some variation rather than a vain attempt to impress anyone! Voice over I find are at times helpful to describe situations and I have used them in the Patagonia trip. Otherwise less is more is for sure one of the guiding principles in my life. Regards

@BromptonTraveler

Yes, a bike with larger wheels and maybe more gears would make it a little bit more comfortable. Usually the benefit of Brompton is if you have to take it on a plane or train or bus... On this occasion I only took the bike back on a plane on my return journey. This route though is easy as there are not too many mountains to climb and a Brompton is more than capable in these conditions. Thanks

I have done that ferry trip from UK to Holland many times. For future reference, It is actually much better, faster and more convenient to go on as a foot passenger with it. Once you get through passport control, unfold it and then you can actually wheel it all the way up to your cabin. Then you have your precious Brompton at your side at all times. Hope that helps. Cool video.

Without a doubt this video has set a new high quality standard for profiessionalism for bike touring videos. As you have noted the cities and towns you traveled through I listed them out in the order you noted. By using Google Earth/directions I was able to plot your route with the distances between each city/town then by going back on to your video I was able see the countryside you were travelling through between each city/town, also all the side streets you took through those villages. I must say you did an absolutely marvellous job of plotting all the back roads, cycle tracks and low traffic volume roads going through so many countries. I'm watching it all again. Very, very inspiring Gianni a beautiful production mate. Viewed in Cambodia.

Even at almost the age of 71 (though a youthful 71), it inspires me to gradually get back on form, and start using my Brommy to do some serious solo biking trips. it's not so much of a problem, I'm autistic and no great at communicating to people who even know me, and I have travelled independantly, door to door across many lands where I've only had the words for please and thank you. It's a very basic act, with only readily identifiable needs. Food, shelter, direction of a town, that's about it. What's more a bicycle is like a magnet of goodness as it brings out the best in folk of the briefest of acquantance to offer the help one would only expect of the most grateful servant. Truely it opens the heart and mind as the landscape unfolds before you.

Inspiring! I don't think I've ever seen Europe looking so empty - save Spain during siesta! A few years back, after walking across Spain, I bumped into two English cyclists on Bromptons outside of the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. I asked where they had started out and they said Bordeaux - so that's about 1000km. Had they had any problems? Well, they had to get off and push a few times in the Pyrenees . . . I've a restored 1960's Moulton - the grandfather if you will, of the Brompton - and have often pondered on a long tour on it - one day, maybe? What was your gearing set up? You can't really see from the video. Good luck on the next run.

Many thanks Jeffrey! I would love to do El Camino on mine one day... Moulton have a good reputation as far as folding bikes go, I am sure it would be great fun! I use a standard 6 gear Brompton with reduced gears option (-12% ratio) that makes it more comfortable on big hills. Cheers.

Hi..This looks like a great cycle tour👍 I would like to ask..how you navigate on a bike tour?..How do you find the quiet roads with light traffic? After all, It is hard to enjoy a bike tour on busy roads, worrying about speeding cars and trucks coming from behind. Do you rely on Google maps? Do you ride predominantly on dedicated cycle paths? Keep the great videos coming 👍
@BromptonTraveler
@BromptonTraveler 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Suneel, it was. As you say I do rely a lot on Google maps and depending on the tour do read blogs of other cyclists to figure out which good roads I can take. Like you say the less traffic the better which normally means smaller roads it at all possible. This particular tour was easy as in Europe we are quite spoilt with a network of cycleway ( I think there are over 20 by now ) that criss cross the continent in all direction and allow you to cycle great distances without any traffic. In a lot of tours I have done this wasn't possible as there was only one road to take. Thanks

I was particularly impressed with all the quiet cyclways and paths you were riding on, good to know that there are route availble for long distance trips. Thanks a lot Neil! Most appreciated. I haven't cycled much on Sustrans here in the UK but over the pond they have quite a few Eurovelo which are mostly on cycleways, and cross Europe from all directions. Hi gianni this is sunho from South Korea Thank you for making this video I’m very impressed and now I have a dream to travel Europe by brompton like you If you don’t mind could I ask a few questions? 1. Thanks Sunho! I hope to make it to South Korea too one day. 1. An average I like is about 80km which means you can sometime do 100 when you feel good and the road is easy but you might have days when 60km is all you can do. 80km gives you time to enjoy the places you visit. 2. I never book hotels and always carry a tent. On this trip i was all month in a tent apart from 2 nights. The tent give you freedom to go as far as you feel like. Without it you are sometime forced to change plans, make bookings etc... Hope this helps!
