Knee on Belly Defense Hip Pump

The Hip Hump is a great way to escape the Knee On Belly position. The KOB can be a nightmare and really drain your energy, especially in the later minutes of the round. This escape is great because it focuses on strong fundamentals and encourages a large range of hip movement.
The fist step is to lay your arm around the back of the thigh. This is in contrast to the defense that a lot of people have learned where you push on the knee. Often times when I go to KOB I'm not looking for any particular submission but I AM hoping that they push on my knee so that I can take control of that arm. Be careful when escaping the KOB position and if at all possible avoid pushing on that knee.
Once you lay your hand by the thigh and your other hand takes control over the outside leg it is time to start moving your hips. This is not a resting position and if you give your opponent an opportunity to transition you're going to find that you are in deep trouble.
I like to make space by shrimping my hips out and guiding the knee (with my bicep) into the space in front of my hips. Once that knee hits the ground it is time to start pumping with your hips. The goal is to knock your opponents knees out and have their butt land on your stomach/hip area. Once this happens you are in business.
Once your opponents weight is on your stop hip pumping and turn the corner for a 180 degree shrimp. There will come a point where it will feel like you can power them over by bridging, please RESIST this urge and finish shrimping. If you bridge your opponent over they will land to close to you and you my run into a scramble. If you continue moving your hips out in the shrimping motion then you will come up at a 90 degree angle and it will be very difficult to resist.
Give this a try and see if you like it. I am a huge fan of anything that involves increased hip movement! If you are having problems with this move it is probably because you are not hip humping hard enough, with enough force and your opponents weight is never transferring to your body.
In the event your opponent out runs you and you hip pump 10 or 15 times without being able to take their knees out from under them then going out the back is the best option (especially because you have the underhook and your opponent is moving in the opposite direction of a back take).

The hip movement combined with hiding that second arm around the outside of the thigh are the most important parts of this move. If you cant get the far leg it's ok to grab the near ankle (the one that you'll be pushing your pelvis into). Just be careful and rep it out a few times before so that can get a handle on the spacing with the arm there. You'll find that it can become crowded space wise and may make it difficult to turn belly down or come out the back if not done correctly.

he still has to cross the arm , just try to keep the arm straight .. unless he is a really big and strong dude .. Your just going to have to be waiting for him to do it !

Love this move. My worry would be: if the guy with KOB, he had one hand in the collar, he could he still get a collar choke even he knee was "corralled" on the floor...

At the higher levels any time someone puts their hand in your collar it's going to alter your defense and really threaten you.
@SurveyofFilmMusic

well of course, so my question is, his knee goes to the ground, you have one hand behind it, and the other on his posting leg. Now it's a race to see if you can shovel him, before he can get the other hand in an unguarded collar....!? I thnk he'll win yes?
@GGBJJ
@GGBJJ 9 жыл бұрын
It depends. If he/she already has the hand in the collar you would choose another escape. If you start moving your hips before he/she has her hands in the collar then you will get the escape as they have higher percentage things to do to maintain top position than they have of getting a good enough grip in the collar to finish you with the choke.

do a knee on belly /hand in collar escape. I'''d could really use to see an answer to that!

@@SurveyofFilmMusicyou break the grip first.. or you fotce them in a direction so they have to use that hand to post..

More often than not, you cannot grab that far leg like that. The guy in top has that leg posted right out

this is extremely difficult without the gi as they will have to put their weight on you on their own.

My go to move when knee on belly is to grab the belt and with the other hand grab the pants on the knee, then rotate to my side like to do on the video. When im on the side I get up on my elbow and knees/knee. From there I just drive like i'm going for a double leg take down, so even if it fails I still get out of the position. But if the opponent stands up as I go for the take down then I just switch the hand on the knee to the opposite leg and grab the back of his ankle and just pick his foot up. With my hand on his belt and the other on the ankle I basically will land in a side control position already past the guard. You can also do a modified throw from this bottom that I like to think I came up with because I never seen anyone do it. So while im getting up on my knee I throw my leg and plant on the floor it in the middle of my opponents legs on the back. I can basically just stand up from here and its done with. If they want to push me back down then I use that leg that I have behind them use use the momentum to leverage them across my body for a sweep. Or alternately I can place my foot behind my opponent between his legs and get up and drive forward without letting go of the belt of the or the knee and just reverse the position to land in half guard, if that's what you want. But the reason I don't like this move is because the opponent is on top of you consistently. I'm a heavyweight and my game is to smash, and in this defense I see too many opportunities to stay on top. Plus if a scramble would ensue then I would be screwed as im still on the bottom and already disadvantaged.
