Some additional notes on using Exile (and its bases) as a Smiter: - All elite shields have exactly the same damage, being 92. The only difference is that the ranges are distributed differently, which doesn't actually matter. - The base smite damage on shields doesn't actually matter that much as well, seeing as the bulk of the damage comes from Smite, Holy Shield, Grief and Crushing Blow. - I would argue that there is one Exceptional base that is great as an Exile base; being the Royal Shield. The defense on it is only rivaled by the Elite Zakarum and Vortex Shields (the latter having the worst block chance out of all of them, being 49%), but its base block percentage is 55%, which is only topped by the Sacred Targe (60%) and Sacred Rondache (58%), both having lower base defense. The 'downside' to the Royal Shield is that its Smite damage is 56, but as stated before, that doesn't matter all too much.

I found a Royal Shield 4soc +45 all res but non eth, do you think it's still good or should I wait to find another base ?

I know you touched on it briefly but Exile is BiS for smiter. Life Tap is the turkey. Eveything else is the mashed potatoes, dressing and cranberry sauce. Sacred Targe has the highest block, lowest str req and is just .5 from the highest damage. If you're building this shield for a dedicated smiter go with ST. You will have a few thousand more hp after BO.

i found an eth vortex shield with +9 resist all. ive never been instantly excited and immediately disappointed in all my life.

a good one is hard to come by, it really doesn't have to be a vortex shield, most of the elite paladin shields are great. Vortex is just the min maxer one. If you came across for instance an eth kurast shield with 45 all res just use that lol it's a perfectly fine shield base for exile.

About to make my first exile in single player :) can’t find ohm but I have 3 ist Gul and 2 vex. Finally going to be able to do Uber trist I tried twice and died at portal because of the long loading screen on console :( frustrating because I was so close both times... can’t wait!

What is better for smiter: HoZ or Exile? I once had an Exile in 2008 i believe but the Base Shield was not good and it had no resistencens. Back then I thought Exile isn‘t good… but now i see your Video and maaaaaan this is Sick oO btw keep up the Good Work :)

You get the majority of your damage from crushing blow. While plus skills from Zak is extremely helpful the life tap from exile trumps that.

@@stardogMLB You can get life tap elsewhere though lets not forget that. Draculs Grasps, Life Tap Charges on a Wand, heck even last wish if you are rich enough. I kinda feel like you are putting too much emphasis on the lifetap when it can be obtained from multiple sources.

@@GGMentor I've done hundreds of solo uber runs between d2 and d2r and the extra damage from HoZ (if it's upped) is a couple of seconds per kill. You get a ton more defense and a lot more life with Exile. Dracs is kind of a wasted slot if you can get blleed from another source(Gface) Wands are doable but kind of a pain to open your cube between each boss for BO/BC... already have to do that once or twice for treachery although I just stash it. Last Wish...I wish. Too rich for my blood. All in all the 10 seconds per run i would save is not worth spamming full rejuvs until life tap procs.

Seeing as the current attack speed 'bug' enables for even faster Smiting, increased attack speed is even more important than before. Wearing Exile enables you to drop Dracul's and wear crafted Blood Gloves with: 20ias / 10cb / dual res with strength or tri-res. Even if they were to fix the attack speed frames, going the attack speed route is still better than HoZ, seeing as the crushing blow on Blood Gloves matters a whole lot more.

In your opinion do you think waiting to find in ethereal base for the shield with 45 resistances is worth it or just throw the runes,if you have them, in a for a non-ethereal Kurast shield with 45 resistance or in ethereal Kurast shield with no resistance is but 15% enhanced damage?

So enhanced damage on a shield is rarely worth it. Off weapon ED just really isn't worth it unless it's a specific build that requires it and even then there are specialized shields. Second 45 all resistance is really hard to come by if you have a kurast shield with 45 res it will make a very nice base eth or not. What you are losing by not making it in an eth base is a 50% defense bonus to the base of the shields defense before modifiers. I'd say if you really want to go ahead and do the non eth base its not gonna be a ridiculous difference in defense but it will be a loss.

Exile is awesome but for me there is a bit of a dilemma. The rune cost of this item is so high I would never consider making it in a non-eth shield with less than 40 all res (maybe even not less than 42 or 43), but then a base like that is so expensive I wouldn't be able to justify trading for it or not trading it away if I found one.

Yes, I payed ber rune for a eth Kurast, 12% ed, 45 ar. The runeword itself is not that expensive and I'll probably have to reroll it a couple of times to get it right. I rerolled CTA 3 times before I gave up on the f thing and payed for a high rolled one :(

Yes only applies to melee and ranged. If a spell has freezes target as part of the spell it functions separately. Like glacial spike or ice blast

Yes, and I believe you can extend the Duration with Cold Damage Charms. But even if you don't wanna take my word for it grab an ice blink armor easy to come by for freezes target effect and test it out.

I’ll be honest but lifetap overriding my amplify damage curse kind of pisses me off. I don’t need dumb ass lifetap. I want massive damage & I’m fine. Lifetap is a crutch for having a crappy character.

That's actually not correct so certain monsters in the game have a 0% life steal threshold which means that you cannot steal life from them at all. The only way to steal life from certain monsters in the game like uber Mephisto is with lifetap
