I was expecting a dry "tech demo" type of video but I found myself thoroughly entertained by the "vlog" elements which were intermixed -- hiking , having lunch with the wife, a visit to the bridge, and the snowstorm. I can't fully realize all the hard work that goes into making a video like this so all I can say is "Thank you" for a great post!

Thanks so much Bill. I'm really glad you found it entertaining because that was my number one goal.

I got some great footage of that freak spring snow storm with my a6500 too 👍 Nice to have another vlogger in Boise
@cactustweeter28907 жыл бұрын
That freak snowstorm we had a few days ago was pretty wild. The slowmo footage you presented was impressive. The GH5 is truly amazing at capturing video. I hope Panasonic can fix the continuous autofocus issue with a firmware update. I would be interested in seeing a still picture comparisons between the GH5 and the Sony. Anyway, great video. Thanks for sharing.

I was thinking about doing more side by side video comparisons maybe I'll throw some stills in there too. Would rather see side by side or one camera then the next ?
@cactustweeter28907 жыл бұрын
I would say try to compare them as close as possible. So side-by-side would probably be best, if possible.

Excellent tests, thanks. As for the brighter/ unrealistic footage with night street scenes on the gh5, couldn't that be remedied with about a one stop underexposure vs what you used, to darken and bring more in line with the Sony footage of same scene?
@Somecooltech17 жыл бұрын
Yeah totally. I just went with what the cameras gave me in P mode but most settings an auto. I'm going to shoot more this time with my sony f1.8 50mm lens and set the ISO the same on both. Im curious what will happen too.
@pete493277 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Did not know there was a Standard profile, wonder how it's different from the Natural profile. Whatever, I'm anxious to own the gh5, and intend to use it with my old Nikkor primes with the meta bones booster, knowing full well I won't have any auto focus:) Looking forward to your future tests.

+Tech Connect, What was the original file bitrate and size you uploaded to KZbin?
@Somecooltech17 жыл бұрын
I used two pass VBR encoding so 65mbps target bit rate 85 maximum bitrate. The file was huge like 4.7GB (at 4k 60p) but I wanted to preserve as much of the original quality as possible.
@N0N01117 жыл бұрын
Nice high bitrate, you really can see it back in the video! Well Done!

Thank you. 4k 60p made me realize that I need to upgrade my computer. It took about 3.5 hours to render the 12m clip on an i7 4470k.

I hear the new AMD Ryzen R7 CPU that has 8core is a render beast. It is on par with intel's $1100 CPU.

@jaykay28027 жыл бұрын
Thanks for a grea review. Your comment abouth the gh5 not being able to nail smaller objetcs close to the camera are spot on. Thats why continous focus is too risky for now, who knows maybe an update can improve this.
@ZaphaQ7 жыл бұрын
Hello Tech Connect, since you seem like using the cameras for filming a lot. How do rate rolling shutter on the cameras? I like moving transitions, like horizontal wiping pans and stuff like that, which is naturally affected by rolling shutter. Can you say something about that? Does it bother you?
@markshirley017 жыл бұрын
I've seen a video where it shows Casey Neistat tapping to focus and half pressing at the same time, do you think that could work.

Dunno if you'll reply 3 years later lol But how long does it roughly take to render a 12min 4k 60fps video?

Hey mate could you do a review on the rx100v? I'm very keen to get it for upcoming trips or should I wait for the vi? Or even a better point and shoot
@Somecooltech17 жыл бұрын
I've been eyeing the RX100 V myself. I own the mark ii and the photo/video quality is very nice. Sony might announce a few cameras at NAB in the next few days. I would wait up till a week or two before your trip and get whatever the latest camera is at that time. The RX100 V is a great one for sure. It would be really good for vlogging thanks to that flip around screen. If I get it I'll definitely review it.
@TIMagicProd7 жыл бұрын
I'm with you in preferring 1080 60p over 4K 30p. Looks much more realistic and closer to natural vision. I'm not sure why so few vloggers that I've seen use 60p. They seem to think that 4K 30p is the end-all best setting without taking into consideration the slower frame rate.
@TIMagicProd7 жыл бұрын
"60 fps" is a generic frame rate spec that could mean either 60i (interlaced) or 60p (progressive). 60i is what gave that old video tape look that had inherent interlacing noise which gave that America's Funniest Home Videos or "video game" look. 60p, on the other hand, did not skip and overlap frames the way interlacing did.
@SantiagoMonroy5 Жыл бұрын
Issue is that the 1080p mode in various cameras look like trash, so blurry thanks to line skipping, it's about time every camera has 4K 60fps

it's depend about what kind of video you gonna use, if you make some video for review, food,.... i prefer 60p, but it's a video travel, filming,... then i will get 24p, sr about my bad english, i just want you to understand, better dont judge other ppl
@RW_CreativeMedia5 жыл бұрын
It just depends on the type of footage your are aiming too. I shoot 60fps for Real-estate video, drone and normal indoor shoot. 24fps for Real Estate video looks choppy from drone-close shot, it almost look like it was shot on a $40 camera. I have seen 24fps Real-Estate video on YT and it looks horrible. The 24fps “cinematic” view its not for all propose of video.
