I love how Nate Crowley made Ghazghkull, he didn’t just made him imposing, he made Ghaz “human”. I especially felt sympathy when Ghaz was confessing that he didn’t feel Orky enough and fell into depression. And when Ghaz was being resurrected, his speech to the gods, I actually felt a bit of pride.

@@Biodeamon I'd think more so that the genestealer Orks, with how the genestealer shenanigans work, basically become calmer and more focused on their tasks. Which to the average Ork is absolutely heretical in their own way. A calm composed Ork who is compliant and focused? Pffft. Depresso might exist for the Orks, but it's 100% not for long. Unlike our depressions Ork probably feel sad for a bit then forget about it like a few hours or a day later. And it's probably related, as the OP said, to not feeling "Orky" enough. An Ork seeing you act weird as another Ork once won't probably matter at all, but constantly being weird and not being like a brain boy or something is automatically a choppa to the skull.

For a Space Wolf book, I would recommend Space Wolf by William King. It's probably the best introduction into 40k I can think of as it follows Ragnar's initiation as a Space Marine. I always recommend it to people who want to get into 40k. William King is a great writer as well.

@Slim Pickens He has a table top model, lore in the codex, a novel titled Lukas the Trickster by Joshua Reynolds, makes an appearance in the novel Ashes of Prospero and has two short stories, A Trick of the Light and Jackalwolf: Call of Chaos. I find this brainy little bastard too be an absolute chad! XD He's a cunning, smart as hell smartass Space Wolf and I love it!

Yeah, Ragnar's becoming a space wolf was my first wh40k book. Somewhere around 2008-2010. Nostalgic as shit moment Good times that were. But now kamikaze drones are hitting my uncle's work, that is almost as immersive, i guess

Really one of my favorite 40k book. the escalation and the constant shift in perspective is amazing craft. I loved the humour and the philosophy. Makes you think about the parallels between the Emperium and the orks. Just loved it :)

I had to pause this after Nate mentioned The Enemy of My Enemy so that I could read through it, and it was well worth the read. Spoilers, even though this is hardly a surprise, especially after knowing that Biter was involved I am convinced that Sergeant Vatatze survived because of the one bit talking about her and the ork nob(?) getting along like a house on fire thanks to Gruff NCO Energy seemingly being a thing regardless of species. The visual of that same nob keeping some other ork from slitting her up after getting knocked out by the giant tyranid's psychic death scream until she can, at the very least, wake up and die fightin'.

I love this book. I'm a voracious reader, and this is one of the best books I've read. It's _the_ book to introduce people into 40K as it not only stands alone, but it shows just how _inhuman_ Space Marines are. It also ties into some of the most major story beats, so if someone later reads about stuff like Armageddon they'll have context. I love that Nate shows that orks lack a gender, and how misogynistic and fasc-y Space Marines are

But I thought of the fact that the number one sex of humans the Orks see, fight and also here talk is male and also (from the lore’s perspective not mine) that humans act like and treat women as the weaker sex Orks would obviously choose to see themselves as males. The way I imagine life as an ork is to imagine the entire material universe as a club and a video game. The Orks spawn in through their grow holes and party it up until they get kicked out for not having a body. They wake up in The Great Green with a terrible hangover, maybe commiserate with the other orky souls about how much fun it was, then get in line to go back in with a fresh body that has no EXP, and the soul only having the vaguest of memories about the last time they were out at this party.
