I'm Ecuadorian and some how those stories came into our culture. My aunt told me a story just like those except a little different. A young women and her son were walking down a trial when a handsome young man came by and stunned by the young women's beauty he asked her to marry him. The young women flattered excepted but she mentioned her son. The man angry said "I will not accept this boy as my son." Worried that she'll be alone forever she threw the boy into a waterfall. Later the young woman told the young man that she killed her son and that now they can wed. Terrified the young man left the woman for good. So devastes that the young man left her and her son died she threw herself into the waterfall. Now near a waterfall you'll see a woman saying "My children! My children". When you do you must pray and walk away. And yeah it is in Mexico

This is true... When I was 5 I went to my Aunts house and all the kids were playing outside with flour. So I was chasing my cousin and she lives near a river and If you cross the river then you get to my uncles house so I started chasing her down to the river and she suddenly stopped and I pushed her and I saw a woman crying while brushing her hair and she said “shhhh it’s la llorona” and I asked “what’s la llorona” all of a sudden I heard la llorona start to say “MY CHILDREN” my cousin grabbed my hand and we ran as fast at we could I turned around and she was chasing us saying “COME HERE MY CHILDREN “. Later we had to cross the bridge my parents said that I shouldn’t look or else she will take my soul... I have another story so when I was 8 m I went to Mexico and me and my cousin were hanging out on the second floor and we heard tapping on the balcony so I got up and she said “Don’t go it’s la llorona” and I was so scared that I started running down the stairs and then I heard tapping on the window in the first story and that’s when I saw her in a white dress and white hair she started running to me that’s when my mom came down la llorona disappeared... I can't quite remember because I was only 5 at the time but I think we were taking a long 72 hour road trip with some of my cousins and then we saw a river and it was a long one only 11:00 pm and then I stopped to get a drink from the river because I love natures water more than any other. But I also saw a probable 5 or 6 foot figure wearing VERY old clothing and I immediately knew what it was because I heard the cries and wails of the woman. This is a story from my grandma He was in Mexico visiting family. She long beloved in la Lorena. Once at her hotel she slept by the bed next to the window. Then, in the middle of the night she heard a lady screaming " oh my kids, we're are my babies!!! ," but in Spanish. She woke up her untie and said,"DID U HEAR HER!,". She was terrified and couldn't sleep for the rest of the night. She said she would never forget the voice of la Lorena Edit... I know I spelled it wrong okay....

You might think I’m ling about this but my uncle is in his late 50 now but his whole childhood he lived in Mexico with his mom dad and 3 sisters and 2 brothers they lived near the mountains and the would hunt there for fun at night and day and one day my uncle went to the hills at night and he could hear cry’s of a woman and he already new the tale so when he heard the cry’s he ran as fast as he could and thank god he made it home safe or could have never told me that story oh ya and she doesn’t only stay by the river she’s all over Mexico.

When I was a little girl, my mom used to tell us stories of her past and I remember that she also mentioned the story of "La Llorana". She told that she, her older sisters, ( My aunts) and her younger brother, ( My uncle ), came across her when the were walking home by the river. She said that she wore a black cloak and had yellow eyes and sharp teeth. But eventually they did run away from her, of course. Ever since she told us that I never EVER wanted to set foot in Honduras.......but I forgot all about it until now. I don't believe in her anymore but I don't want to go there since I still have fears..... 😑
