Fun fact.. when Major breaks through the glass in slow motion. I got the brief . I was FX Lead on this show. I pitched to my VFX sup. What if we make the glass warps before it shatters .. so I made the pitch did some tests and it made it to the movie... one of my highlights from my visual effects career..

@@kentt3813 No, it was because they watered down the philosophical foundation of the first two films until it was non-existent. The Puppet Master being an AI and Motoko having an ambiguous past is what gave meaning to their interactions and questions/struggles regarding the definition of life. The Puppet Master explained their philosophy: that life is defined by being born, reproducing without a host (ie: non-viral reproduction and not simply a copy,) and finally dying; whether or not you're entirely artificial should carry no weight within the definition. The Puppet Master convinces Motoko to merge with them, thus killing them both while also giving birth to something new and unique. In this film, we know who Motoko is and where she is from; we know who the puppet master is and where HE (human) is from. They completely removed the important struggle Motoko and the Puppet Master had to face, or at least gave it the most meaningless explanation. Where in the original film, Motoko didn't get the simple answer she wanted (that she was human and has the spark of life,) but accepted the one she got (that we can define life in a different way.)

There's not much of a precident for good anime adapted movies but for me this is easily one of the best. Again not really competing against alot but I really liked this movie as a huge ghost in the shell fan. It's like an amalgimation of stand alone complex and the original 2 movies. And it's just great to see a live action version of some iconic scenes handled well.

Not quite on stand alone complex levels but still fantastic. And a great sound track. I really dig what millennium parade did with the opening and ending themes.

Actually they aren't. If you understand the story Section 9 is a special branch of the police. They only get involved in cases where there are cyber crimes being targeted at the government from foreign agencies, civilian groups or other agencies within government. They are cyber detectives and a commando squad. In the series, if they were onsite somewhere that meant they expected some type of cyber crime to take place and in that case would have already had all their forces standing by in case something happened (police, military, forces from other sections, etc). Meaning, the Major wouldn't be standing on the roof if they weren't expecting something to happen. And OBVIOUSLY they would have already known everyone who would be present and the VIPs who were on the scene. (In fact, in the anime this scene never happened. It was an assassination mission and she killed her target and never crashed into the room) And considering all of that and the fact that the Major was the best of section 9, it would be considered a personal failure and let down of the entire team if she allowed "the President" or whoever this VIP is supposed to be, die or get injured while she is there SUPPOSEDLY to avoid something happening. Not to mention there wouldn't be a long dialogue telling you some story describing the whole plot of the film either. The dialog would be more natural as in: "nice bots, yeah we made xxx money last year off our new line, let me show you some of the new features, if you let me I will send a delegation to your country...." Therefore the way this scene plays out is totally unlike anything you would see in the anime, manga or tv series. This is what folks mean by 'dumbed down' and really it isn't necessary to be this simplistic. In reality if this was done in the anime or manga, the major and section 9 would NOT be on the scene when the crime goes down. This would have happened and the rest of the next 30 minutes would be a detective story to figure out WHY someone would do this and then they would have stumbled on some plot by some group and then after more crimes that get foiled because of the detective work, they would uncover more intrigue and deception from within the government itself which is manipulating events and then finally the big showdown.....

Its sad how much people hated this over scarlett johansson playing major. When the whole idea of the major was that she simply had a cyborg body to which she had the option on changing to another one if she wanted to which also means major couldve even been male and at one point had a caucasian body. But no one got that. Personally i think this live action is the best one ive seen in anime live actions and i loved it. The directors did a good job with the visuals

@TokyoNerd
@TokyoNerd 2 жыл бұрын
@@rafabar6652 Is that the reason? There are far too many adaptations of Japanese works or works about the Japanese in western media where Japanese (in this case) aren't cast in the leading (and most needed) roles or not cast at all. I just think that Hollywood is more concerned about picking veteran actors (because maybe they assume they'll do a good job) rather than picking someone that fits the character from the original material.

@@TokyoNerd Well, for sure it's harder for them to pick an english speaking Japanese with a resume similiar to Scarlett. But I think it's naive from me to think that that's the case. This is an under-rated movie. For one, it is one of the better adaptions out there of another IP. For another, the aesthetics is one of the best, rivalling even Blade Runner (not the 2049 one, the original one). The acting is competent, if a bit wooden, and that might be because they were aiming to imitate the original IP's zen like approach. It deserves better.

I just saw it and was very satisfied. Don't worry, I won't talk about spoilers. I think the anime and film compliment each other very well. The film answers questions that the anime leaves unanswered and vice versa. Some critics said the film has an incomprehensible plot and lacked heart. These critics must have never seen or cared for the original. Because I found nothing difficult to understand in the plot and I actually think the film had more feeling and emotion than the anime. Only because the actors are real humans and could express emotion naturally. While I liked the new score, I prefer the original score. Also, the film is rated PG-13, so of course the violence was severely toned down from the anime. These are my only complaints of the film.

not the spirit, none of the concepts are in this scene just appearances of things. example being that she has to talk with her mouth, talking with her mind was a key concept to the series. I can forgive the nudity part as it's can be hard to sell as being serious to a western audience but that was also key in showing how the main character was uncaring of such triviality as nudity if it provided an advantage spirit is what's underneath the skin
@ner0p
@ner0p 7 жыл бұрын
"appearances of things" is a laughable description of a faithful adaptation. As for other details like speaking directly from her mind, it isn't completely clear if they went away with the concept altogether, but I doubt it. The only thing that must be conveyed is the technological status quo by which information is shared directly through consciousness without verbalization, no need to have teh actress dub scenes just because the original felt like doing soo ever so often. The nudity is well conveyed by the suit she uses, I don't think it needs to be more convincing as it already surpasses the animated character's.

It definitely won't be like original, it was already revealed in older trailers. I wouldn't mind Matrix version, but here the action style seem to follow recent mainstream action flicks, like new Robocop or Total Recall. It's allright but won't make your jaw drop.

I agree. In the movie I think she could be sharper or more blunt in her dialogue. Also in this clip and during the film it almost seems as if she's scared which is nothing like the major in the franchise.

Read this in a review: "It avoids delving into the really intricate discussions of self and duality the first film did. It doesn't have its haunting music, or astonishing ending." While the review gave it a thumbs up overall in the end, the fact that it avoids the ESSENTIAL idea that the ENTIRE franchise revolves around (no matter if we're talking the manga, the movies, or the TV shows)is a HUGE letdown. It's like, WHY?! WHY?! You take a story with depth and fascinating discussion about identity, the soul, and a person's sense of self in a world that is largely stripping it away and you turn it into a generic cyberpunk action movie? WHY?! I think I'm seeing it this weekend still, but I'm now going in there with MAJOR reservations that the movie will have to overcome.

I love the future design, Scarlet, the action, effects, music and feel. This movie is one of the best anime adaptions for sure and I also still love the anime film from 1995. Best movie ever in my view...!!!

Shame on you for defending it: It captured nothing of the spirit of the original manga or the ground-breaking animated motion picture, worse, it didn't strike out in any meaningful direction of its own. It's style over substance, cynical, and reduced its IP to a silly pop-corn flick. That deserves "shitting all over". It's not even a good Cyberpunk story; Blade Runner 2 was a better Ghost in the Shell.

I got chills at 2:51 in the theater. O_O The surround sound, music, and build up was amazing, plus the vibrations in the seats. This scene isn't exactly how was in the movie though. Some parts were cut for this video. There was more build up, she was talking to a guy, and she wasn't suppose to go in. The scene doesn't start at 0:00, instead they fly over the city for a while. It's a lot more atmospheric in the actual movie. The story wasn't that good though. I thought it was too simplistic. It's more of a visual and auditory experience.

I'm sorry to tell you that the soundtrack that was used for the film is not available but luckily if there is the original version that is not the same but something is something, it was informing me that they are getting signatures to release a 30-track playlist where possible listen to some tracks like the one you want to hear called the jump. Adding it was said that the soundtrack that came out at the time of the premiere of the film was composed largely by the second composer lorne balfe disciple and friend of Hans zimmer for this reason was that the soundtrack of "ghost in the shell" had only 26 tracks nothing more but originally there are 30 tracks. The only thing I can do for you is send you the Soundtrack link you are looking for, I reiterate it is not the one used in the movie but the one that came out in 2017. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHmZk6FnZdBjq6s

I just hope that when she talks over the "Net" she doesn't move her lips and only the audio in back of the theater works. This would be a nice effect, like what they did in the anime, they got the voice actors to stand far away from the mic to make a "distance" effect.
