I'm confused if people are actually watching the video or not, I do not think changing things up and start fresh is bad. The game isn't what we expected, but that might be a good thing. I present some concerns, but I also go on to explore why feeling disappointed is maybe missing the point and a way changing things up and starting fresh might give more depth to the idea of Ghost narratively. I'm not sure why people are mad. I think this could be quite a good move, I'm unsure where people are getting the idea I'm unhappy from. The only real issue I bring up is that if this is completely disconnected it could feel a little silly but I doubt that will be the case, I have to assume the events of the first game have consequence here, the ripple effect started by Jin echo into that becomes this game's story, at least that's what I would assume.

Jin's story was done by the end of Tsushima. Remember the game literally told us that Jin Sakai is 'dead', only the Ghost remains. This is what Sucker Punch is doing with the franchise as it's not about a specific character it's about the title of the Ghost and that legend and legacy can be passed down to anyone at anytime. It's the exact same reason it's not called Ghost of Tsushima 2, they can take this franchise anywhere they literally want now. Who's to say the legend of Jin Sakai won't be in the game, imagine walking around and having NPC or items documenting him, or having a quest line to get his ghost armor & the Sakai Katana. I think that would be cool seeing Jin's legacy through another POV.

No the expectation was the shogun after Jin in the mainland along with the 2nd mongol invasion.

@@anteupbeats Then you are literally playing the same game as the original. The time frame & setting of the new game is very important. Hokkaido in the 1600s is what the equivalent of the Wild West in the US in comparison, hence the very western feel & tone. There are no samurai or any government there and was a very law-less place. Having our protagonist as a lone 'wolf' probably seeking revenge is quite Kill Bill-ish is how i think the story will play out.

I think this can work very well. The point of ghost 1 is that the ghost was a necessity and it shows a person like Jin is pushed to the ghost which is a necessity of the time. Maybe this format can use different contexts to justify different ghosts or whether there is a ghost at all.

I am extremely happy that they’re not overusing Jin after his story was told. We get a new character with new weapons, new tales, a land in Hokkaido, and a fresh new start. I’m here for it

I love that we will be playing a Shamisen (which you can see on Atsu's back and hear being played in the trailer music) instead of a flute in this game. I just like the idea of jamming out on it whenever I want. I'm personally a fan of the western style spin on the music as well.

I don't really understand the disappointment around a new character, to me when I finished GOT, it was done, it had a nice neat ending and it felt like it wrapped up nicely. Taking Jin to the mainland wouldn't make any sense story wise and he also he has kind of done everything already. He is a legendary warrior to his people, it would feel like taking a max level character to a starting area in an MMO if he just suddenly decided to go to the mainland. We need different stories, new characters, new areas of japan, different time periods. Game looks amazing, Atsu seems cool. SP makes the only games that make it worth getting a PS.

Well because some people felt like Jin’s story was just starting in reality, we got his backstory, his truama, and his triumph over an enemy, but because we know the Mongols still went to the main land, having another game showing the end of the ghost was what I thought it was going to be. We would see him go and fight a losing battle, continuing the legend until he was gone. It being a new character isn’t bad at all but it does give me concerns with how loved Jin was, and if this new character will be just as likeable

@@justingabriel1765 how much more can they do for the plot of same Mongol invasion, map, and missions like freeing villages from Mongols and then deal with another Mongol leader, that's going to feel the same and just a Ghost of Tsushima 1.5 there's not much to add the story, gameplay considering it takes place on the same period

A game mostly played by guys and you wonder why we are mad clown. If this were 2000-2015 I would be ok but given this years and the ESG DEI injected bullcrap having a woman replacing a male protagonist is 100% pushed there for pandering and DEI purposes. Not just that how in the hell after almost 5 years we only get a piss poor trailer and game looking like the ps4 version. The faces shadow lighting doesn't look even close to next gen. Hell look at how good Death Stranding 2 looks wtf are they doing over there sucker punch is not the same company this stupid woke bullshit has plagued even them.

One JP youtube noted this feels like a revenge story (kill bill) and wanted poster said a Bounty Hunter. Knowing sucker punch GoT is influence with Kurusawa movies. He also noted this is also feel like a princess mononoke vibe with the wolf and female protagonist.

Coming on the heels of Blue Eye Samurai, this is extremely exciting and I can’t wait to play this. They deserve the benefit of any doubts based on the quality of the first game, and allows them to use the Ghost avatar to tell other stories.

I’m just upset from the same thing as you that they didn’t take Jin to the mainland and expand on his story in an urban environment, I’m sure the game will be good but it’s just not the game a lot of us wanted. The assassins creed comparison is spot on but I don’t know if that works with ghost. Tbh not interest in this game as much as I would’ve been but we gonna have to wait and see

Yeah I get it. Even if they do what AC2 did, I don't know if it's enough. There was a lot of story to tell with Jin. You could've taken him to the mainland and then explore the necessity of the Ghost, but also critique it too, to look at how it was easy to do what he did in a time of war on Tsushima, but on the mainland, during peace time, where people are trying to live their normal lives, will they take so kindly to what Jin is doing, even if for the greater good? I suppose this game could explore elements of that but it doesn't seem to want to from what they're saying. I suppose only time will tell.

@@antagonist7 thats not even close to what he said. he just said the comparison to ac was good. the comparison itself was only discussing a way a sequel can successfully integrate the story and lore from a previous title without being a direct successor that follows the same caracters, time and setting. neither the comment or the video complained about ghost not being more like ac.

I remember when it was revealed in RDR2 that we were playing as some guy named Arthur Morgan and not John Marston and there were a lot of people bummed about not playing as John. And then the game came out and everyone knows the story. Not saying Ghost of Yotei will have the same writing as RDR2 but don't count out the new protagonist.

It seems the developers felt Jin's story was over or felt like they couldn't expand on it enough and want to tell a new story on a new setting which i think could be exciting, especially with the Assassin's Creed comparison. This definitely has me intrigued to see where they take it.

It kinda of make sense its very similar to the crow movies ,since its about a ghost not the name of the character, is the Ghost of "region" with this they can make as many games as they want and use a different main character. Reminds me of the Crow movies , where they all "the crow" but different people play the crow. The crow only comes for revenge once hes done he disappears and it dead again, until another crow rises.

I really thought they would do huge time period jump (1600s), in order to introduce new weapons and mechanics, like rifle, kusarigama, naginata and more. Jin Sakai (1200) would not live that long before that happens.

I don't quite understand, since when has 'Make a sequel to the already told story' become a better idea than 'Start a new story, a new journey' from the perspective of storytelling, or art creation.

I don't think it's one size fits all but I think whatever they choose, they likely chose for a reason. I'm not advocating for sequels for the sake of it, I make it pretty clear in the video I think what they're doing it could be very thematically resonant.

I am open to this change in protagonist, games like Red Dead, Grand Theft Auto and Elder scrolls to name a few all have a new protagonist in each entry. There is a reason why it isnt Ghost or Tsushima 2 but a new Ghost in a new location and setting, looking forward to see what Sucker Punch is cooking

I'd like to see more of this. Iterative sequels mean more in a PS3-X360 release schedule. I'd rather more sequels take more risks if games come out once every 6 or 7 years. Once the novelty of game 1 wears off, you need to create a new novel experience instead of game 1.5.

I like the idea, but i hope they don't call all the main characters ghost in the story going forward, because that would remove all the impact and ''coolness'' when there's is a thousand other ghosts out there

So long as there's a direct reason for her to be a "Ghost" then I'm cool with it. If there is no reason at all then it'll feel a little silly for two ghosts to exist independent from each other with nothing tying them at all.

it is really sad that we cannot play as jin. It is like they follow ac. In ac, they make ezio's Trilogy. I love those games most in ac series. I have no problem with this new setting. But emotionally attach to new mc is really hard.

im not worried at all, its set during the sengoku jidai period (waring states period) so during the times of the japanese civil wars, theres alot they can do with that and i feel like politics is going to be a bigger part of this game in some shape or form

I don't like the idea of milking one character and one era/age for two decades. It's nice to have something fresh. Like with anything else, i don't care about genders etc unless the game is good and the reason behind it is solid. So instead of screaming "woke", i will actually wait for more information about the game.

Try playing Final Fantasy... the anthology concept is old news. People need to learn to accept that the story is finished. The game is about a man changing traditions in order to save his people. He saved Tsushima... that's all there is to it. There's no loose ends or unanswered questions. Jin won Tsushima back.

yeah for sure. I don't think Jin's story leaves itself open or on a cliff hanger, but I do think there are deeper themes you can explore where the game left off, for example by looking deeper into why he does what he does, and into the society that birthed the Ghost and the people's reaction to his actions, the idea of fighting to liberate people on Tsushima who need a hero vs fighting to liberate people on the mainland who might not even be aware they need liberating from corrupt rulers. That's not to say this move is bad though, just that it's interesting they chose to leave those ideas on the table. I'm interested to see what their motivation was and what this story entails.

I don't think Jin just stopped existing because he won that one fight... The game implies that while the Mongols were his enemy in the game's story, his true fight was with injustice and oppression of the ordinary people, which is the symbol that the Ghost becomes.

My only gripes is the use of The Western music and I hope it's just for the trailer. Like, I get it. Hokkaido was a wild west back then. But that doesn't mean all the good Japanese music has to step aside for that one thing. Other than that, I am quite hyped since I've been to Hokkaido a few times and it's still my favorite place to visit.
