No one wants this to fail and the woman replacing Jin COULD prove to lead to many design choices NOT in the best interest of the Game. The actual existence of a Female lead itself is FINE. All I ask is that the Game itself is the number 1 priority and Social Politics from the real world are not forced into the Game. The fundamental basis there sounds like Lady Snowblood will be a key influence (a manga from 1970s which had a film adaptation that's considered a classic in Japan's samurai cinema).

I’ll also add that I grew up studying martial arts I sparred boys, girls, men and women as a boy as a teen and as an adult. Men aren’t just stronger generally, they are also much faster. The explosive actions taken in combat arts are executed harder and faster by men. So I just can’t suspend my disbelief whether it be games or movies that a 120 lb woman could beat up a 220 lb man or even a 150 lb for that matter. If it’s a fantasy setting with various races or sci-fi with cybernetic augmentation maybe but something like 1603 Japan a woman ronin slaughtering men with a katana, nope maybe a few with a Naginata or a Bow.

I think why there's always talks about the gender of the playable character is that you identify with the character you're playing, how you play the game is a reflection of you and as a guy you identify more with other men than women. It's just gender thing, no hate at all. Games like Ghost of Tsushima has perhaps 90% of the player base being men of all ages. Perhaps even higher than that. So most players will identify more with a male character than a female character. So by making the playable character a woman it will be harder for most men playing the game to identify with a woman. It's not only that but a Ronin is a fighter, it's a male role. A strong fighter, which makes it a bit weird for it to be a 100 poung woman. It feels more like they are pandering to modern standards than doing what's realistic but also creating a character that less players will be able to identify with. If there for example are a lot of women NPC's, I don't mind at all, because you interract with them, you're not playing as them. That to me is a huge difference and I think a lot of guys will agree with this. Unless they are too brainwashed in this woke agenda that sex doesn't matter and that guys want to play as women with masculine tendencies, it's just not the case, in most cases at least.

It could be pandering but hopefully its not the case. Guess we will see when more of revealed. I'm not concerned in regards to such strict guidelines in terms of realism. Even Jin as a man was super natural in his abilities since its a Game, so I'm not against a Woman adopting it. By that logic, most woman wouldn't be able to pull off whet they do in most Games and this slippery slope just starts to break the fantasy of Gaming as a whole. I'm obviously not a fan of Woke but I wouldn't let it ruin something as simple as enjoying a Female character. I'm more concerned with the rest of the Game but need to wait and see.

It’s funny because every time I play an RPG I make a female character. I’m a grown ass black dude and I’ve been gaming all my life, I have no problem playing as a woman. I think it’s badass to turn a woman into a killing machine in a video game. If the gameplay is the same or even better, then that will be cool. And I want a good story, not a typical femme fatale or whatever they call it. And I don’t want ericka to insert her politics into the game’s story. Also, I’m a conservative and after looking at X page, I’m kind of nervous.

See, I get people who have a sense of dread about where things could go with it (I'm one of them), but there isn't enough out yet to definitively call it trash. I thought those people who accused us of saying something is woke just because it has a woman or whatever was a meme, but I've seen a lot of it around this game. Personally I have no problem with a female protagonist. I’ve played Tomb Raider and Horizon Zero Dawn. I just hope that Jin doesn’t get the Disney treatment. What Kathleen Kennedy did to Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones was unforgivable.

Wait... Haven't they just released a trailer? All we know about this game is what we saw in it, and what we know of the quality Sucker Punch brings, nothing else. Respectfully, the idea that they should have hired someone else to play the MC because of her ideas, to me sounds way too close to cancel culture, which considering the content in the video seems really ironic... Here's one thing that is true. Take 2 groups of people: Those who make games, and those who play games. These two groups owe absolutely nothing to each other, and anything they exchange is up to them both. Play what you will and ley makers make what they will. Hi, first-time viewer here. I want to say that while you made some interesting points about the game, I think this is somewhat of a bad faith take that allows others to use this video as a basis for their views. This whole issue started off with Asmongold asking if he had to "play as a girl?" when he saw the trailer and with his entire chat just bashing the state of play, or at least that was how I was introduced to this controversy. Now, it makes sense to be upset having good characters be selved for a new one; that's normal with any franchise, but Yotei was literally written off by Asmon's chat before we even knew anything. Morever, I understand it's fine to have issues with the actress for their political views, but its not ok to write off a company's ability to make a good game because they might align with the actor, thinking they will largely influence the title. I watched this video to see if there was a true reason behind the upset, and as you claim that you were trying to give a nuanced video that wasn't with the mob. But what I took from this was that you were afraid the game would end up setting a WOKE narrative that had no substance or fun at all, possibly breaking the feeling of escapism. I have more things that I found questionable in your video and would love to have a conversation over this. Again, I appreciate your concern (and sorry for the long post)

I've never particularly liked Jin as a protagonist, just as I don't mind if each sequel has a completely different protagonist. I would understand this criticism if Jin was the protagonist of, say, two games and only in the third would a sudden change come. For me, Jin was not defined enough as the protagonist of the Ghost of series if only because MP mod Legend itself started the idea that there is not just one Ghost, so I don't mind the change. As a fan of Blue Eyed Samurai, Lady Snowblood and Tsukikage Ran, on the other hand, I welcome this change and it hit my mark just like the spaghetti western atmosphere in the trailer. While GoT was an homage to master Kurosawa's classics, this one seems to be working with other clichés and genres. But it is too early to judge how good the sequel will be. As for the female heroes, let me be honest, if Eva wasn't sexy, but if she looked completely ordinary, most would call Stellar Blade a woke trash like most of the new female heroes. Just remember the great game Returnal which didn't have an attractive protagonist and a lot of players complained about it. That's actually what makes the difference if players will be interested in a female character or not, when she's sexy everything's fine but when she's ordinary it's woke. I'm not saying it's wrong and I want to watch hot women in video games myself, I want to have hot female fighters in Mortal Kombat again, but let's at least be honest about this and not pretend that's not the reason :D Yeah, I don't want to spend my free time either watching ugly people unless it's a game trying to be downright realistic and it would spoil the believability of the world.

Eves sexiness did help a lot in a symbolic sense but the Game did not have any woke tropes. So while the sales would have been less if she was ugly, the actual Game was solid with no pandering in sight. None of the characters really looked attractive in the first Ghost Game as well, so the expectation of a pretty new hero is less 🙂 Mortal Kombat has really gone down heal. Even not just the ladies but character designs for the Men doesn't look exciting anymore 😔 I agree that more information needs to come out. I wanted to defend players rights to be skeptical in todays climate, makes total sense but not to already ride it off. We could get lucky 🤞🏻

Speak for yourself. I won't play as a female lead. I am a man, been playing games since 1984. Happy for others to enjoy playing as a woman, I don't. I'm not an incel. It gives me the creeps. I really, really, REALLY want Ghost of Yotei to be good! I'm genuinely hoping it is. Yet the fact that they replaced the entire dev team that worked on the first game with a completely new group of people, all of whom just so happen to be women for some reason, does not fill me with confidence. But! But maybe I'll be wrong though and Ghost of Yotei will be just as good as Ghost of Tsushima. I hope that's the case... However, the fact that they didn't keep what seems to be a single person from the original dev team is greatly concerning in my eyes.

I think you meant Skull and Bones lol other than that I whole heartedly agree with your points, the red flags are there, they were there in the first Ghost really but the well written characters with interesting stories and engaging gameplay and missions ment it was easier to overlook, hopefully this game's the same at least, as I really loved the first, but again the red flags are there especially with it being a Sony first party game we'll have to wait and see but companies need to start listening to customers again because people are fed up with girl boss characters being stuffed into everything for virtue signalling points

Regardless of if it's a Man or Woman, they need to be presented in a certain way so we can warm up to them. Characters that are OP, from the very start are rarely liked and otherwise need other things to make them likeable. Games are about Escapism and NOT Activism after all ❤

@GamingMyWholeLife the game is called eiyuden chronicles, it was kickstarted game, supported by fans like me, the creator died around 1 or 2 months before the game release his name is yoshitaka murayama. creator of suikoden series. inside the game, you will find modern words like girl boss and such, statements like " are you assuming its gender?!" its really really sad and disappointing.

@GamingMyWholeLife the thing is, diversity and inclusivity are already inherent to video games since the beginning. like in suikoden all of that are essential to the game because you travel the world and recruit 108 chracters, different colors, races genders, its part of it, its in the gameplay, just look at the suikoden 3 on ps2, the main protagonist are a dark skinned boy, a woman knight, and a disabled warrior, but we gamers dont care, we dont think of it, because they are cool, and we love games, and now these modern people come to our turf tell us what to think, and trying to destroy it. sorry for the rant, but man, i dont know. heck with these people.

@Megorium - From an Artistic point of view I think you will really enjoy the Beauty. There is so much nature and blooming lights with the sky having all these different colours and clouds. You will walk through fields FILLED with flowers that all sway in the wind and there's even a photo mode if you really want to get creative. The combat is fun as well, since you can choose to be stealthy or confront enemies head on. Sword fights are fun, it feels intense and is backed by excellent animation. Plus the usual, unlocking new skills and upgrades. I would recommend the easy mode for you (I think it exists? Can't remember but I'm sure it's there).

Honestly I dont quite agree on everything. One thing I disagree on is that you say that its not about playing as a woman. To me personally and many other playing as a woman simply is not immerssive. And Im tired of having to water that down by saying "its only about the wokeness" which it is not. Many of us simoly dont see ourselves playing as a female. Of course then you have all the kids coming in calling you a virgin,misogynist,women hater etc... But no we just dont enjoy playing as a woman. The logical evolution for all these open world pseudo-rpgs is to include a character creator the way Mass Effect did. It's not hard to do, just a bit of extra money in an already bloated budget. The only reason they don't do that is because they want to force the player to play as particular character. Especially when it comes to pushing a specific agenda.

At least for now Ghost of Yotei is historically accurate, female warriors exised in Japan and were called Onna-musha but obviously every game that has female character as protagonist is "woke" because people don't like to learn history

First since Ghost 1 was about that time period and the Mongol invasion. The sequel would have probably been about the second probably would have been about the second Mongol invasion of Tsushima. I don’t know about you but play the same exact game over again does not appeal to me. Jin’s story was done, he was the Ghost. Yotei make me excited because I get to build up a new character into the generations ghost. The fact she is female doesn’t bother me. The actress has serious issues but I can’t separate the actor from the role. Hell I love Star Wars but Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford are dicks. I’ll wait for more info and trailers to see before I call it “woke” and if it is I won’t buy it.

Just like how some people can't enjoy certain movies because of an actors past but otherwise can easily not care and still enjoy the movie. It's funny, I had a previous comment actually say I wasn't angry enough... like dude, I'm not putting on a performance. Dialogue is important and we don't always need to agree with each other. I'm going to be honest, I enjoyed the open world of Ghost Of Tushima but I never really enjoyed Jin as the main character. He was arite, but nothing special. Plus I found it difficult to enjoy the game after playing TLOUpt2 since that was a masterpiece! So I was really happy when they moved away from Jin and had the time jump. That said, what you said was true 'they like to hire their own' and see how radically left she is does give cause for concern.

The controversy is nothing different than when Ghosts 1 came out, people were upset. First because SP was making a Japanese historical game. Second was during showcase, when there was a "White" man that was playing an historically accurate flute instrument because he was "White", not knowing the man was an individual that had the pedigree to play the music. The issue truly isn't "Woke" more so than we have games for everyone when there is no such thing. Gaming is already a niche, genre's in gaming is a niche of a niche. I hope SP and Sony keep her from doing press for the game, not because she's a woman, but because she can destroy the very game she wants to attempt to virtue signal it.
