There's a brief touch on something that is so great about the band: the fans. At a time where identities were still a mystery, they were happy to meet fans after shows, and the people that met then were all were super cool about it and either didn't take pictures or didn't go putting them up online anywhere. I love the fan base, it's part of why the shows are great to go to. Everyone is super chill and the energy is totally different from any other loud show I've been to.

True, i've never really seen a fanbase that doesn't cannibalize themselves. Tho I do see overly exaggerated stuff every now and then, but to be fair yeah i'm gonna cry when Copia is no longer Papa IV lol. And the music is so good, like songs that I didn't quite like at first quickly grew on me, it's like every song was made with the same passion as the last. I sadly haven't met many fans and made friends, but I hope to one day have at least a few lol

It is satanic in a modern pop-cultural sense. The meaning of things changes with time. Just like dictionaries don't prescribe the meaning of words, but describe them based on how people actually use them. In the end it all depends on what people associate with words, symbols etc

Anyone who says Ghost isn't a metal band clearly isn't aware of the origins and history of metal. I will grant this, not every Ghost song is metal, Dance Macabre being an example. But Ghost is trying to emulate early metal sounds, such as proto-metal, heavy metal, early doom and thrash. One just needs to listen to Death Knell and compare it to Black Sabbath's eponymous album, specifically the opening track. Ghost has also produced a notable number of thrash and heavy metal. Con Clavi Con Dio and Per Aspera Ad Inferi are clearly homages to 70s and early 80s thrash. Prime Mover, Year Zero, From The Pinnacle To The Pit, among others, bring to mind early heavy metal, such as Judas Priest. Cirice, Call me Little Sunshine, and Death Knell take clear inspiration from bands like Candlemass and Type O Negative. Some of their newer work, even, is reminiscent of Dio. And that's not even covering Mummy Dust, which is most certainly metal. Just because Ghost almost exclusively uses clean vocals doesn't mean they aren't metal. Remember, screaming didn't become popularized in metal until the early 80s. Prior to then, bands like Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Coven, and countless others that were pioneers for the metal genre, used only clean vocals. Again, I will grant that not every Ghost song could be categorized as metal, especially much of their newer work, but to deny the label of metal for their heavier work shows a major lack of understanding for the history and origins of the genre. Ghost isn't trying to be new or current. They're trying to emulate the sounds of decades past.

After hearing just one song, I went home and looked them up, and it was just me and my headphones for an entire weekend, listening to everything they've done. I saw them last August, and have to say that it wasn't just a concert, it was an event. I'm waiting for them to come to St. Louis again, as this old rocker won't miss them.

Definitely a Catholic aesthetic, more specifically compared to a catch all “Christian” one. The pomp and pageantry is way easier to run with than that of a less over the top Protestant or Baptist service for example. Not that they don’t have their own visuals, they just are toned down, and more oratory based. Papa being a southern preacher would be amazing tho!

THe current nameless ghouls aren't the same from the original. When the nameless ghouls got horned mask with cut out that replaced the chin. Tobias had laid off the band that made ghost what it was. That got Tobias in court with the original band. As you mentionned, Tobias was a guitart player in the band MCC [Magna Carta Cartel], Well MCC [Magna Carta Cartel] & Ghost was the same. When Tobias replaced the Nameless Ghouls, MCC [Magna Carta Cartel] came back to life. If you were looking to find the Nameless Ghouls named Omega, he's the lead player and singer of MCC, you can still see the Omega sign on his guitar. And on of the other player on MCC feature the famous white Alpha guitar, the Alpha symbol is replaced by the MCC sun logo. Personaly I prefer the original band up until Tobias screwed his friends and kicked them out. NOw Ghost means nothing to me. I now follow MCC [Magna Carta Cartel].

The first two albums are masterpieces imo, the rest is not my cup of tea, but there are a few songs that I like from those too. I think to release 'Jesus he knows me' on Easter was a great blasphemous stunt and I loved it a lot \m/ Saw the band at an early point in their career and had the fortune to talk to Tobias and other members of the band (without the masks) for about 10 minutes. He was very composed and gave sophisticated answers. I asked him if he was inspired by movies like the Seventh Seal or Haxan, he said he wasn't but he really appreciated my questions.

They're very good. Some good starting songs would be Cirice, Rats, Square Hammer, Kaisarion, Witch Image, He Is, and Mary On A Cross. Ghost takes influence from a wide variety of genres and eras, from psychedelic rock, doom metal, heavy metal, 80s glam, ballads, and pop-rock, to name a few. There's a little bit for everyone. If you're into heavier music (all clean vocals, no screaming), I recommend Cirice, Con Clavi Con Dio, and From The Pinnacle To The Pit. If you're into 80s rock, songs like Kaisarion, Rats, and Witch Image are excellent choices. If you like more psychedelic sounds, Kiss The Go-Goat and Mary On A Cross are very good. If ballads are more your thing, then He Is, Life Eternal, or Darkness At The Heart Of My Love. But their most well known song is Square Hammer, which is very catchy. Hopefully this helps, and I hope you enjoy them :)
