Great video and great music -- We lost the towns of Warland, Tweed, Ural, Volcour, and Yarnell when they built the Libby Dam on the Kootenai River in northwest Montana back in the late 60's early 70's -- One day, if Lake Koocanusa ever draws down to a critical point behind the Libby Dam I'd like to go see the towns we lost in 1972. I think it would be pretty exciting to see the towns I haven't seen since I was 12. On a good day, when you're out in a boat on Lake Koocanusa, looking through the bottom of a Mason jar, you can see the train trestle at the bottom of the lake at Warland.

I worked at Echo Bay Resort from 1994 until 1996. Hard to believe all the water has vanished. Lake Mead is a AWESOME place. Pray for heavy rain....
@lindawoody85012 жыл бұрын
We have been getting some monsoon rains the last 10 or so days in Mohave County, AZ so maybe also up the line on the Colorado in the Grand Canyon? I think so. We've regained now about the same water level of 7/20/2020 which is not much but something to delay the loss a tiny bit. Bought some time. I hope the downstream use lessens and we get a good snow upstream in the headwaters of the Colorado for the sake of Lake Powell and Lake Mead.

My Great grandmother Verna Chadburn grew up there, born in St George, and lost her twin brother at age 3mos in st Thomas, she was one of the last known residents who lived in Logandale until her passing in 2014. I believe you may have gotten a lot if the images from her daughter in law, my grandmother Beezy Tobiasson , Glade Tobiasson's ( Vernas son )wife, a local history pro i suppose, lol. Great place to live, and be a part of the rich history. I'm also a lifer here. Love it.

As someone on another channel noted, the National Park Service or Hoover Dam folks have put sign boards up in St. Thomas itself. They must believe that the water will be down for a very extended time so it would be fiscally sound to add the signage and craft a trail to the town's ruins. Sad case of it all both as a dead town and the now lake in trouble.

Did St. Thomas get abandoned because younger folks left to find work elsewhere?
@GhostTownWonders2 жыл бұрын
No. It was abandoned because the filling of Lake Mead caused it to be underwater. Due to the severe and chronic 20 year drought in the SW, the lake level continues to lower and has exposed this town again.
@d.l.hemmingway37582 жыл бұрын
@@GhostTownWonders sound like the fate of the original town of Milford, KS. They moved it up the road and up the hill from its original site. They also left the original buildings where they were and built a whole new town.

I just started watching what was going on with lake mead a few months ago. I know that when something like that happens it effects us all. Not just the one area or state. I was at lake Meade back on 1978-79. We had an occasion to be in Vegas for BMX racing They used to have there. They had whst was called Grand Nationals. Seems like it was in October. I didn’t like being in Vegas cause I’m not a gambler or drinker. My child was 8 and 9 when we went there. We were from Texas so we had to fly. I was glad when they stopped having them there. They moved them to Oklahoma City then Amarillo Texas. Anyway when I found out Mead was losing water and there was a town that was destroyed because of the Lake I was Astonished. It all seems so wasteful now. Lake mead didn’t need to be so large in my opinion. I didn’t like that.
@GhostTownWonders2 жыл бұрын
Yes, very scary to watch Lake Meade disappear. I have been in Las Vegas for 32 years and remember when the lake was full.

Unfortunately Lake Mead and the Colorado River water system was over allocated since the original pact was agreed to in 1922. This is a highly variable system and cannot sustain the continued demand due to population growth. At this time no state is taking more than its agreed to allocation. The issue is that we have been in a megadrought now for the last 20years and we continue to add population to each of the states. The Bureau of Reclamation has performed many studies and can only guess as to what the future holds for the health of the Colorado River system.

@@GhostTownWonders its unfortunate that they even put a funnel in the lake to get more water out of it.

Not many people live in Nevada and Utah. Cold winters, hot summers. Extreme weather. Little or no water. Not much grows. I bet land must be cheap there. It was Mexico. Taken in 1846-1848
