In isolation I agree with him it’s a reach, but the issue is that Hollywood types and woke Twitter believes these character traits = gay. It’s the same problem with the American Society movie that just got released. Black people aren’t the only ones with anxiety. That’s not a racial thing. They might be anxious over different things, but it’s not unique to a particular group of people. That’s something that should bring people together because we all experience it. This is the same reason a large portion of the internet wants Elsa in Frozen to be gay as if she can’t just be an introverted woman. These types of people don’t think that Phoebe is introverted and socially awkward because she tends to let her negative thoughts and self-image dictate how she interacts with people or that she is just more interested in science than friendships. Nope, she has to have these personality traits because she’s in the closet.

I roll my eyes every time trailers use the slowed dramatic remix of songs. I almost clicked off it... but it's Beetlejuice right? Seems like nothing new or justifying of a sequel. I would've rather they did the Hawaiian thing. At least that would've been something new.
@RaikenXion9 ай бұрын
I'm starting to get real tired of that style too, it's like they're trying way too hard to play on our nostalgia. I love Michael Keaton, loved his return in Flash, but i gotta say the trailer for this Beetlejuice 2 sequel just feels like it is going to just be another "the force awakens" style rehash. None of us want that! Why don't they focus on a new setting? Delve more into the world of the dead and create a new and original story that's set purely there, and where it's actually Beetlejuice who needs the "living" help for once. they should go through all those different crooked doors, that can lead to allkinds of wacky, weird dimensions. Feels like this needed to be co-written by both Burton but in collaboration with someone like Gillermo Del torro, with Del torro on directing duties this time; bring his quirky, creative style to it would help i think. But you're right here, this isn't gonna be anything new at all. Hollywood just don't get it do they. hese classics are too frickin old for this gen-x/z generation to be remotely interested in them or even get their appeal; and for us older fans, we're even past nostalgia now, we want the return of Legends, but in ALL NEW and ORIGINAL Stories!! to build from and *Expand* on that classic thing.
@MichaelAarons17019 ай бұрын
I definitely picked up on the gay insinuations between the two. Trevor continually gets wasted which is a shame given the whole “they dress up like Ghostbusters” in _Stranger Things_ and playing, of all characters, Richy Tozier in _It_ who was the funny one of the group. Saw it a few hours ago today, and I’m actually failing to remember a lot of the things that happened in it. I like it a bit better than the previous one but that’s a bit of a low bar. If you took the latter portion of this and attached it to the early majority of the previous, you could have a decent movie. But the first of this and the latter of other are just so shameful in trying to prove its familiarity with the franchise with all the references and callbacks that it’s shameful bordering on cringeworthy. At one point I half expected to see the Scoleri Brothers pop up for a quick cameo. I personally thought Peck was going to follow in the Videogame’s footsteps and be head of PCOC since the time skip between films has made them a normal sight like after each Getting-Famous-Montage of the originals did. I certainly wasn’t expecting him to be mayor especially if he’s still so antagonistic towards the company. Surely something could have been better established in the world much like the game did. For all the time spent trying to world-build this return to form (particularly after the whole _Answer the Call_ debacle) a lot needed to be answered for especially for all the new characters and assets: Is Podcast an actual member of the new team like Lucky seems to be at the R&D facility? What’s the dynamic of everyone from Oklahoma uprooting to Manhattan? Do Ray and Peter actually work for Ghostbusters or are they legacy reserves/PRN contractors? Is Trevor an adult now; I was a little confused?🤔 How and when does the mother suddenly care so much about her father’s company he cofounded given her attitudes towards it and non-family issues which still persist in this film? When did Lucky have engineering skills or is she just a grunt who points and aims a weapon during experimental target practices? Are they paid by Winston or do they bill the city? If Winston is paying them, does he recupe his expenses by billing someone since ghostbusting is serious enough that Mayor Wally Wick allows them to operate as far as they can get without causing some incident that allows him to unleash the ban hammer like he so desperately wants to? If there are issues about Trevor’s, and especially Phoebe’s, ages in being active ghostbusters, why have no other staff been hired? Kinda hard to believe that Gary is the only fan of the old team who’d eagerly operate on the new team especially once the company was back in Manhattan where it all began. At least _Extreme Ghostbusters_ was formed by a team 75% of which had any familiarity and/or appreciation for either the paranormal or the Ghostbusters which lead them to becoming the new team. How have the family not developed any teamwork dynamic for when they go out on a call that they bicker amongst themselves or don’t know how much of anything works? At least the other films addressed some form of training or field testing. The villain is actually unremarkable. Out of the 4 film villains (and I had to go look up his name it’s just not imprinting on me) Garraka is not that great. Executions aside, the villains were always driving the plot. Gozer is coming and sends its minions to pick targets as it’s summoned to New York or that other outlet. Vigo is actually active in his machinations even getting more presence and influence as his powers grow extending his reach. And Rowan, despite being a stereotypical incel, has planned out each of his steps and is directly tied to every encounter the ladies face. Horn Dude just spends his time locked in a ball while everyone slowly talks about him until some other ghost takes the slow path to positioning him to where he can have any active agency to advance in his goal. How lucky is he that Phoebe actually became curious to know what being a ghost was like or that there was even a machine that could allow her to leave her body to simulate it while being still attached to her body to puppet it? Or that the guy who inherited his prison was that much of a schmuck that it would go to the one place that would lead him to this machine? Gozer just comes wherever per some schedule or is summoned. Vigo is waiting in his painting and can muster emotions anywhere into slime to feed off until he can psychically affect matter for his purposes and posses people as his servants. Rowan goes and makes things happen designing his machines and strategically placing them about the city. Gary-chacka just gets dumb luck. And when exactly did he meet Melody that she became his spy? The new equipment wasn’t interesting either. I’ve got my Afterlife pack plus rifle (AND the ‘84 model!) and the 1:1 Spirit Pack so I’m good as far as that goes and I’m not interested in collecting or backing any projects to recreate the Frozen Empire equipment which I’m not sure what all they do differently other than maybe the wrist gun which is more a matter of ergonomics…🙄 The two best are the original films from the ‘80’s but this one was at least something of a casual watch and easier to get any entertainment from.🫤 *B-*

@@MichaelAarons1701 I think the set up was intentionally there to make Phoebe queer-coded, the scenes of them together are always intimate, but if it was written as them being purely "Friends", the set up and tone would be quite different, ghost girl would not be all offish, she would establish that she needs help with something, regards her situation; and it would not involve Phoebe ending up willingly putting herself inside that device thing to basically turn herself into a ghost. I think the writers definitely wanted her to lean toward the gay meter, but i think they were also well aware of other recent movies like Strange World, Lightyear thor love & thunder and the marvels; how all those went down overall with the mainstream audience. So because of how much Frozen Empire had been pushed back, they had plenty of time to change it up; or maybe they just always originally intended to go for the subtle "queer-coded" route, thinking it would go right over most the normie audience just like it did tom. the question is, HOW exactly do you provide this "Representation" for lgbtq audience in big, huge popular mainstream franchise movies? When the lgbtq community are purely defined only by their sexual identity and preference. How do you introduce a gay or trans character into such big movies and have it go down smooth where your overall audience are just fine with it; basically where it doesn't feel awkward or stop the whole movie? How to bring in such lgbtq characters but not even make anykind of big deal about the fact they are lgbtq lol. It's like somekind of catch-22 or paradox. this is why i just think maybe Hollywood should simply start doing Exactly what tyler perry does. He is a movie producer, with his own studio and everything, and he basically rips off, often draws much inspiration from big, popular movies and genres, and makes his own comedic take on those things, aimed specifically for the Black Audience. He's not my cup of tea, but i can understand and appreciate what he does. Maybe Hollywood should do this same thing, make movies specifically for and all about lgbtq people. So romance, horror, even sci fi, superhero, i remember hearing about a Gay superhero called the Midnighter i think. It's very interesting how neither Marvel or DC have made a live-action movie about that particular superhero, considering they keep pandering to lgbtq audiences; that in of itself would be actually genuinely giving lgbtq people Representation, atleast in the Superhero genre. At end of the day it's all a *Agenda* that Hollywood is pushing, and mainstream normies are all beginning to see right through it. I do often wonder though, exactly how many Lgbtq people only care about just getting that diversity/representation pushed into everything, no matter how heavy-handed, or slyly it is done, as long as it's there; then they don't even watch the very things where it's been pushed into. Compared to the ones in the Lgbtq community that actually care about just Genuine Representation? 🤔

If GB3 had happened in the late 90s, early 2000s, around the time of Reitman's "Evolution" we would have gotten the ogs and probably been upto 5-6 GB movies by now; it is what it is. Murray, Ackroyd etc they're not gonna be with us forever so the studio had to go with kids/teen cast; especially since they'd already tried the ALL FEMALE route already. "Ghostbusters" is a unique comedy movie and i don't think we'll ever get that again.

So...Phoebe essentially commits suicide to be with her lesbian ghost-girlfriend? Yeah, this movie can f*ck all the way off.
@RaikenXion9 ай бұрын
Well yeh that whole her turning into a Ghost just to experience it and feel connected to the ghost girl was dumb, Phoebe was absolutely queer-coded in this movie.
@jonahrains74839 ай бұрын
@@RaikenXion- Her being turned *2SLGTBQIA+ wasn't surprising. But her intentionally harming herself was a bridge WAY too far. Someone recorded parts of this movie. When I saw that I decided that not only would none of my family go see it - but I was finished with Ghostbusters. Hollywood is so screwed up.

Phoebe is the best new character of this franchise. Period. She is that female ghostbuster we needed. The 2016 got all that wrong. She has a great character ark, she makes mistakes, she gets called for her selfishness and then she helps to save the day. A great passing the torch there while still having the original crew. Phoebe is the way Lucasfilm should have written Rey.

Yeah, I just felt the ending was rushed and the villain killed too easily. But it makes sense that he went straight to them considering how many ghosts and spirits they were holding captive.

Melody might not even be her name "The girl who's the key to everything" doesn't describe Phoebe in this movie. She isn't a "chosen one". She isn't preordained to be the one to save the world. Yes, she's a girl. Yes, she exacerbates the problem (the problem actually starts when Kumal takes the orb out of the brass room which was keeping it ensnared). Yes, she came up with the solution... because she's the brains of the group now. But none of that is the horrible trope of "only a woman can save us". If Phoebe hadn't been in the movie and instead her role was filled by Lars while the entire plot was exactly the same, nobody would be asserting there's left-wing undertones (aside from Patton Oswalt's denigrating of the Adventuerer's Club) Heck, here are a few fun rightwing details I noticed: They shoot prius-es and drive the car into rental bikes (though I could see this being twisted to leftwing by inserting a joke bashing Gary for hurting the environment. But that didn't happen) As was mentioned, the healthy nuclear family "You're an adult. Take care of the problem yourself" - no lefty would ever say that And in all four films the government has been getting in the way (possibly bipartisan, but the left is generally more in favor of government regulation)

They're out of line on the phoebe being the 'key to everything.' i can understand going there given recent history, but phoebe isn't just magically good at things because the plot needed it, everything she does is IN character, a character that has been established. And her and melody are a friendship, did they leave it ambiguous? sure, but you guys are the ones that constantly complain about shows where people can't just be friends, and this one made them just friends, and you are mad at it. Pick a side.

on the surface, yeah, it seems like a sweet "we're both so isolated and lonely" friendship...but the way Phoebe looks at Melody tells me a different story. Just think...whats the reason they kept that character a secret?
