Very accurate review, Adam. There were some good elements in this, such as the new lab, the tech, decent opening ten minutes, Murray's performance, and the look of Garraka when it wasn't CGed, but there wasn't much else that was good here. The Melody plot was awful and too long. The next film needs Aykroyd and another person to write it, and a brand new director who's not a giddy super fan, that way we won't get another family melodrama angsty film. They need to get rid of Trevor, Lucky and Podcast, and Callie, get better cast members, and emulate the look and tone of the first two films again... Practical FX again, and new ghosts, and ones who aren't all blue in color. What was that about? They also need an A list actor as the main baddie, perhaps with prosthetics on a bit so that it feels special.

The idea of the Ghostbusters having to transfer the old, janky containment unit to the new facility in order to transfer the spirits into the new unit, but shit goes down along the way, would be an interesting movie. Like the movie 16 blocks in the world of Ghostbusters...and Peck's team is in charge of overseeing the transfer as a government representative.

The entire premise of the movie is off...New York almost gets destroyed back in the original Ghost Busters...so the city leaves it's protection to a family of misfits instead of a special team of trained soldiers??? Then they try to close them down after they just stopped a ghost dragon??? Oh, and the sex jokes made me cringe since this is a kids movie.

The big issue that has caused all of these to fail is Ghostbusters, the original, was a specific movie based on three comedic geniuses in their prime. The ghost busting was a vehicle for the comedy. The movie was 100% a comedy, it was not a franchise that you could "replace" the originals and still work. We have seen this with Pink Panther movies, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber (Jim Carrey) and other comedies that are now famous for a person's portrayal. They tried to do the "women's version" with well known comedians and it failed and now these new ones are failing but for a different reason. They have tried to "franchise" it with little "minion" stay pufts and a GB family. But none of the new ones are comedians. It is just 100% nostalgia bait and the fact that, like the new Star Wars, they have to have the original cast so prominent despite all being old is proof they know it.

very underwhelming movie in general. It's watchable if you like campy movies that really have no true storyline. I liked the daughter. This review captures my feelings 100%. No GB music, way to many characters, only busted 1 ghost, stupid fire starter nonsense, never understand ghost girl, really have to bring homo stuff to a kids movie, the new lab was like one of those African food corner shops that advertise preload phone credit for international calls, the main baddy and the back story was so bad, get rid of mrs Spengler. Breaks my heart to think what this movie could have been. The next GB movie please focus on busting, ecto, proton packs, fire house, new York, OG GB, org music and sound effects more often. A simple plot like some one did oujia board and released a badass ghost or maybe natural disaster releases some ancient force, almost kills the GB but they over come adversity while some dramatic music comes on then they finish the job in true GB team work style with some dramatic comments like switch me on, heatem up, Do ray Spengler, let's send this so and so true back to biblical times. Movie must open with OG music right after the first act

Guess so. This actually follows the same formula. Little bit of stuff with minor ghosts, character development, main character in some sort of peril, lead up to boss fight, 10 min boss fight. Interject comedy throughout. This one was NO different!
@erac58559 ай бұрын
I’ll have to watch this movie again in six months or so to see if there’s something more to it. They defeated Gozer and Vigo within about the same 5-10 minute amount of screen time, but it worked there. It just didn’t work here. There was no comic relief to offset it (firebender just didn’t fit- too contrived; StayPuft and Peter MacNicol were fantastic). So much teen angst. It’s great to want to make everything family friendly, but GB is for adult slapstick SNL humor. It’s a disservice to try something else. Afterlife was awesome- made me feel and get weepy and protected the charm of the original movies. I wish they had kept that idea in mind. It does feel like some of the best moments were left on the cutting room floor.

Maybe Walter peck was right. We need Nadeem to not know about his family lineage, sell the orb to ray, who despite being a paranormal research doesn’t recognize what the local librarian would have, have him and lucky keep doing pke experiments on it despite it causing instability, Winston and his team failing to contain the most dangerous ghost entity in his museum and phoebe essentially killing herself so garaka can finally escape. What the hell? In the first one it was peck whose screw up caused the final act to happen but now he’s become the voice of reason since the ghostbusters have all become unwitting foils for the villain. Why couldn’t we see them bust all those ghosts in Winston’s hq? Why introduce a supernatural character to a film whose charm is its ability to stay grounded despite its fantastic premise?

I can understand objectively why ghostbusters 2 is not a great movie but it’s one of those movies I still enjoy because it’s so tonally similar to the first. It’s also one of these movies like the karate kid sequels where it’s impossible to remove your nostalgia goggles. If this were a semi remake like the ghostbusters video game, I would have enjoyed it for that reason. The problem with these sequels is that none of them know what they want to be so it’s hard to form any kind of attachment to them.

I agree with almost everything you said, although I kinda liked Kumail’s character a little more than you, even with the fire bender powers and all that shit. I thought he was the funniest character and his scene with Bill Murray was probably the most enjoyable part. Other than that there were too many characters and too little comedy . Sometimes it felt like a sitcom in that a scene tipycally began with one or two characters talking and then a third one walks into the scene, it just happens Ray or Janine are also in the fire house at that moment and they just walk down the stairs or appear in a corner. It’s not awful but it’s not really Ghostbusters, at least not the first two movies. It may have some elements of The Real Ghostbusters cartoon. It’s also probably a bit better than some of the latest Marvel movies in the sense that it is and adventure movie with special effects and some humor…but even most Marvel movies have more comedy than this. Yeah, sometimes the comedy is corny in those ones but it is generally less tame.
