I remember playing this game a ridiculous amount as a kid. I got great at busting ghosts and making money! That dang marshmallow man though. It was so heartbreaking to put in all that work just to get crushed by him. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to run underneath him or when he was on the side. And putting in almost an hours worth of work just to test a theory was harsh. The first time I got a guy past him I was so thrilled! But my next two got crushed of course. When I finally did get past him I was so excited to see the next part of the game and take on Zuul. Then the ending happened so fast I thought is was a bug or something. Don't think I ever played after that.

I loved playing this at the time. The sampled speech is really clear for an 8 bit. It helped a lot when playing the game when you could afford to buy the fastest car (though you felt you had to choose the stationwagon to match the movie).

Play on 1.25 speed to make the song sound more authentic.
@20windfisch115 жыл бұрын
Yes, this was the right speed on PAL Atari 8bits (it was as slow as this at 1.0 speed in NTSC). To prevent it being too slow on PAL, they just took a smaller timer counter divider which actually made it faster on PAL. Little hint: Don't enter a name, say YES if you have an account, and enter 25252525 as the account number to start with (IIRC) $25000. Works on Atari and C64.

Looking back, it’s surprising how nuanced the gameplay can be in the C64 original. The NES port tried to add onto it, but it failed miserably, whilst removing some of what this had in the process. The SMS port, on the other hand, seems closer to this, while adding on things that are much better executed than the NES port.

Ah, I had this game. It's not a bad game, just goes on for a loooooong time. Marshmallow Man always crushed my hopes and dreams of seeing the ending many a time when I was much younger. Also, is there even a point to suck up ghosts with the vacuum? I never really noticed a money difference.
@AL82RetrogamingLongplays5 жыл бұрын
Sucking up the ghost resets its position on the map, which helps prevent it reaching the Zuul building and increasing the PKE level - since you need to end the game with more money than you started with delaying the PKE level is a good idea 🙂

@scarfman42 жыл бұрын
@@Hawthorne-Studios Going back to GBHQ emptied all of your full traps. The advantage of the containment unit was so you could make fewer trips when all of your traps are full. I never bought it though so I don’t know how full the containment unit could get before having to return to base.

To you, maybe. Al is right, you have no idea of how well the gameplay stands up even today unless you're playing it yourself. Just watching it doesn't make it justice. This is one of those games that may seem repetitive from the outside but once you're in it really takes a hold on you. Every time to complete a run and get a new credit limit you really feel the NEED to have another go at it immediately. I'm sorry for Ernie Hudson's kids but I have to say, not sure about now but back then they had a crappy taste in video games for sure.

Buccaneer especially the NES version. but only because when you're in the Zuul building, you have to keep pressing A while holding left and right on the D pad just to make the Ghost Busters move. plus you can't fire at the ghosts in the building. even with a turbo controller, you still have to be smart.
