Something no one ever mentions, but I don't think is common knowledge: If you run over a ghost (or multiple ghost) on the map screen, the ghost you touched will show up in the driving sequence. Makes using the ghost vacuum a bit more practical since you know they're coming. Also, when you run over them is in direct correlation to when they show up on the drive to your destination.

That was in the C64 version too. You didn't get anything for the effort, but it kept the ghosts from hitting the Zuul building and causing a PK spike.

That's the way it was in the 80's--you were always taking a $50 gamble when buying games you never first played at a friend's house. Many of us were burned this game, which is the reason why many of us currently sleep with invisible men.

Aim for the flattop! I think the Commodore 64 version was probably the best version of this game. No stupid stair climb, but you had to run under Stay Puft to get into the Shandor building, but that was all there was of a "boss fight" if you got 2 out of 3 Ghostbusters in, you won. However, crossing the streams and getting slimed during ghost catching scenes would KO the Ghostbusters, requiring you to go to HQ to revive them.

Another good item for the Zuul building is the sound generator. It slows down the ghosts but it's expensive.

I believe this was originally a C64 game, I actually used to love it back in the day... though I never understood what the hell I was supposed to do :D Just having speech (as little as there is) was really impressive to me back then. And also - C64 games load from tape, which takes forever, but this one actually had a space invaders type game to play while loading... hardly no C64 games had anything like that.

I've seen numerous people make a review this game and each was very entertaining in their own right. Your review is certainly no exception, especially how you maintain you're elegance and tranquility, as you make notice of the most frustrating parts of this game. It's amazing that a hit franchise like Ghostbusters had a lousy Nintendo Game. You'd think it would at least be an upgrade from the Atari Port but they actually made it worse. Even the graphics on Atari are better

Even though your comment is meant to be humorous, it is actually quite true. Since the NES is a program based machine, all music, sound effects, graphics and gameplay are created with code. Samples are raw data that consume a large amount of data.

One of my friends had this game when we were kids. The question is, why the hell did we waste our time with it when he also had Contra and Wizards & Warriors? Anyway, I much prefer the Genesis Ghostbusters game, with its 2D run and gun gameplay. Nice run on this version, Corn.

You need enough money to enter the Zuul building (about $30,000). Also, on the ghost catching stage, you can press the Up button to decrease the space that the ghosts get away from you by half or so. Regarding the Zuul building itself, and the ghosts behind the doors, if you get knocked down three times by THOSE ghosts, you gain 255 additional falls, making the stage a joke. Little known tip. Also, if you open a door and hear a sound, you get an extra fall or two. I forgot about the ghosts changing directions when you open the doors though. Anyway, another tip: when you're fighting Gozer, hit her a time or two, then when she shoots, go down, trigger the other side of the building with the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man, then immediately go up; rinse and repeat. It seems that killing the white ghosts triggers the Marshmallow Man to climb faster up the building.

The Atari 2600 & C64 versions are much more playable. You buy all your equipment at the start, they don't have other cars on the driving screen, you don't run out of gas, & you don't have to climb the stairs or fight Gozer at the top.

It depends on how much money you have in he game once you have enough money the Zuul building will open up. Plus on the 3rd floor open the door on that floor you'll be invincible to the ghosts on the stairs and doors.

You can move upwards and be closer to the building while ghost busting for the ghosts that fly high. Also when the PKE is in the higher number level or you reach $15k the zuul building can be entered.

Depends on who you ask, honestly. Mario, I agree with. Zelda was ok. Nothing to get overly excited about. Never played Castlevania.. All I know is I had a good time, for whatever reason, playing this (and many other) game(s)... I don't know how old you are, but I'm almost 35 and stuff like this was awesome back then to me. I wouldn't spend as much time... If any... Playing these now (I'd watch some of someone else play.. Lol), but I sure did then.

Ghostbusters on Nintendo sucks ass. But, if you’ve seen my review of it, you already know that! So, why am I reviewing it again? Because, it's such an inhumane pile of shit that it deserves it! Well, this time, I'm over the shock at how fucking horrible this game is, so I'm going to be a little more constructive. Here are 5 things that should have been improved. Number 1 is gonna be a "Spell Check". (BOOM!) Let's play teacher and grade this piece of shit. Since it's really short, let's say 10 points off for every error out of a possible 100. So, okay, you ready? Here we go. Well, first of all, congratulation's spelled wrong. But, it's not even a simple typo; 2 letters in 2 different places are wrong, which probably means they really didn't know how to spell it. So that's 20 points off for that, just because it's such an atrocious misspelling. But then, why isn't it plural? You don't usually say "Congratulation!”, you say "Congratulations!", so technically that's nothing to do with the spelling. It's a different error altogether. So, that's another 10 points for that. Then, "You've completed a great game"? Well, that's just simply wrong; 20 points for that statement. Even if it was a great game, it shouldn't have to announce it. So, then, you have a punctuation error, because the next sentence begins with "and". Then, you've got an extra O in "prooved". And proved what? "Proved the justice of our culture"? So, it's saying that you proved that our culture has justice? I don't know. "Now go and rest our heroes!" instead of "Now go and rest," comma, "our heroes!" It's telling you to go rest our heroes. Okay, well, sorry to say, but we had to take off 90 points. But, hey, a score of 10% means that there's still hope. But, wait. Is there any reason that there's 1 exclamation mark here and then there's 3 up there? That's another 10 points off for lack of consistency with a total score of 0. F-. It should have said, "Congratulations! You had the patience to sit through this awful game. You proved your nerdiness. Now go fuck yourself!" Now, moving on to Number 2, the second thing in this game that should have been improved would have been a better use of "Ghostbuster Characters". (BOOM!) After all, this is a game about the Ghostbusters. It could at least acknowledge Egon, Ray, Peter, and Winston. Even the first Ninja Turtles game on Nintendo had all 4 of the Turtles. There's supposed to be 4 Ghostbusters as well. But try counting them in the game. There's 2 who fight the ghosts, 3 who enter the Zuul building, 2 who fight Gozer, and 3 who enter the headquarters. Now, look closely at the Ghostbusters. Notice they're all white, which obviously means there's no Winston. Ernie Hudson, maybe you're glad that you got left out of this crappy game. So, Number 3 is going to be "Better Graphics". (BOOM!) The whole game is just unappealing to look at. There's so much gray in the color scheme. It's dull, depressing, and lifeless. Where's the color? Why is there so much gray? Nothing even looks like what it's supposed to be. The proton beams look like a line of diamonds; the ghosts, like I said, are generic and stereotypical, all the same, and none taken from the movie, and the Ghostbusters look like aliens. And when they get out to push the car, they definitely don't look like Ghostbusters. They don't even resemble human beings. Number 4: "Better Sound". (BOOM!) As I've mentioned, the music is tiring, to say the least. The game's Ghostbusters, but that doesn't mean we have to hear the Ghostbusters theme the whole time. A little more musical variety would have helped. Not to mention, more sound effects. (HMMMMM) And, at last, Number 5, yet the most important thing of all that could have been improved, "Better Gameplay". (BOOM!) This is seriously one of the most boring fucking games I've ever played in my life. Having to buy stuff and getting gas should not have been a part of the game whatsoever. Ghostbusters should have just involved going around, blasting ghosts. But why was that so fucking hard to accomplish? Couldn't it at least have more stages? Let's count 'em. Ignoring the map screen or the store, there's the driving scene, the ghostbusting scene, the stairwell, and Gozer. That's it. 4 stages. I can count all the levels in the game on one hand. If this is supposed to be a game based on a successful movie, why can't it have more stages inspired by scenes from the movie? It sucks. It sucks, just like a ghost vacuum.

God, the NES version sucks! Leave it to BITS to blow another licensed game. (They were the worst developer of that era by far!) The Master System version is the best, and the C64 original is pretty good, too. This one isn't much better than the 2600 version, really.
