Why did the Ghostbusters games even have a stairwell section? The movie only shows the Ghostbusters climbing the stairs in one scene for a joke. They were making a game based on Ghostbusters and they thought that climbing stairs was the most compelling thing they could do?

That was something they added in the NES and Master System versions. The original version for Commodore64 didn't have the stairwell stage (and neither did the Atari, Amstrad and other versions).

these were actually made by a group of outsourced second-rate developers that had basically no impression of what Ghostbusters was. its most noticeable in the "Congladuration" part and the ending of the Sega version that not only had they never seen the movie, english was not the developer's primary language. there are numerous tell-tale signs of bad translation.

Actually you CAN shoot straight when you're going up the stairs on the Sega Master System version. Button 1 shoots straight and button 2 shoots upwards at an angle. I think the reason it leaves dots on the map when you plot your route is to show you how far you're going to drive, because it makes the driving scene take longer and sometimes the ghosts get away if you take too long. Also, in case you didn't notice, hitting a ghost on the map freezes it, and then it flies over you in while driving.

There is no rule in the English language that says that you can't start a sentence with an "and". The way they did it was wrong but you are completely allowed to do it. Highschool teachers will often say you can't but that is more because students suck at staring sentences with "and" and if you let them then you will just get a bunch of papers that have the word "and" starting every second sentence.

I remember refreshing the cinemassacre page every day after school when I was 12 waiting for these videos. If it weren't for James I probably would have never become interested in retro games. maybe the reason that theres only 3 ghostbusters is that every sprites, or "characters" have a colour palettes, it means that the sprites can have colour, just for people who are not so technical, but anyways, the palettes are limited by there colour, and thats why in mega man, he is blue, they were limited to there colours, and there was a lot of variants of blue, so thats why he is blue, to pop out from the backgrounds, sometimes, and he could have more detail, but mostly sprites on NES were 8-bit, so there was not much detail go go on. But also, I don't know why they didn't have a the 4th GhostBuster, or they were just racist....

The Apple II version wasn't much better than the NES version, but the graphics were far superior. The proton packs actually shot what looked like lightning bolts, you had to aim the traps and the car driving parts had an isometric appearance. The Ghostbusters all looked the same, again, but they were a bit more detailed.

The reason why “Congratulations” is spelled wrong in the game because its a case of Engrish. Engrish refers to English spelling errors made by Japanese companies such as when the “R” can sometimes be turned into the “L”. Or the “U” can be left out.
