As a young officer in my regiment (Royal Scots Dragoon Guards) I was privileged to be given a wonderful six months away in 1979 on a KAPE tour (Keep the Army in the Public Eye) round Scotland, and as our HHQ (Home Headquarters) was and still is in the castle I was allocated a room in the Officers' Mess just opposite the oldest building in the castle, the Chapel of St Mary and my room was right above the then Army School of Piping. Being a bad piper myself and coming from a very old former Church of Scotland manse where the last witch in Perthshire. Kate McNiven, or aka Kate Nike Nieven lived and worked until burned at the stake in 1715 I became accustomed to "things that go bump in the night". I however never became accustomed to the frequent noise of someone coming into the empty and locked bedroom next to mine. It did make my hairs stand on end and give me goosebumps though! Likewise I would sometimes recognise a pipe tune and put it down to someone practising below my window - again on investigation there the sound would stop and there was no one there. Having encountered a couple of times the presence of Kate in the Manse which was not at all scary - there was always a friendly atmosphere I was more fascinated than alarmed! One time she even said "oh!" and promptly disappeared. Long black hair and quite charming in a way. Our dogs would often react suddenly to something they could see or sense in the corner of the library. One day we will discover a rational reason for such weird happenings - I hope!

😎👏👏👏👍❗️Great content, as always. Any plans to do the vaults/ catacombs under the top end of the royal mile? I’m not aware of any specific haunting identities there but I know that the police station cell area utilised part of the vaults and they extend past where the police occupancy stops. I know a nurse that did occasional shifts as medical staff there & nobody wanted to go to the lower part of the building. Not all ‘presences’ are malevolent or sinister. When I left Edinburgh to join the Paras I eventually married and bought a newly built house on the corner of Holly Rd and St. Augustines Close in Aldershot. My wife’s family had lived on Holly Rd for generations. The plot for our house had been part of a larger plot of land for an old house owned by Mrs Snow. Mrs Snow passed on and the land was divided and houses built. Mrs Snow would have seen my wife growing up as her family home was less than 50 metres from Mrs Snow’s house. At that time we were still in our 20’s and our son was about 5yrs old. At the time I collected a lot of Art Deco period pictures and ornaments, we also had a very early electric gramophone and collection of gramophone records. Whenever I played gramophone records there was always the feeling that there was someone else there, even when I was alone. The feeling was accompanied by an overwhelming sense of well-being. There were times where gramophone records were being played when a smell of old-fashioned perfume was detected, this was also witnessed by some of our friends.

Thank you for sharing that, wonderful story. I've always held the belief that spirits are/were people and they would be a reflection of how they were in life. My daughter was always scared of ghosts, so i'd tell her that to comfort her (and me! 😆). I'll definitely do the Vaults. I've been in them a few times and find them...odd. In the Blair St. Vaults i heard a dog growl, about a foot off the ground and a couple of feet to my right. The people closest to me heard it also. Thank you again for sharing.

@@raindog428 Scotland only gained the name due to being invaded by the Irish tribes back in the day Scottie . Long time ago . That's why the Irish and Scottish people have so much in common . Lost my lovely Luke, husky/lab cross, at fifteen in 2005. Three nights later, I heard him bark three times downstairs, in the wee hours. My other dogs were upstairs with me. He was a lovely sweet boy, and was put to sleep on my back porch, after spending a lovely sunny afternoon in the back yard, mostly snoozing in my arms. Miss my boy.

It's possible that somehow the apparition's clothing etc is over time losing it's manifestational energy causing any colours to fade to grey etc. I once read a story (i unfortunately can't remember the details of where it happened as it was so long ago read) about the apparition of a huntsman who was often seen wearing a bright red hunting jacket that overtime faded to a grey. Perhaps this only happens to residual paranormal images that are more of an atmospheric recording of certain people and events.

@@eerieedinburgh We used to live in the tenement across from the graveyard entrance in Morningside, and I'd heard of the legend, but never saw her at all in the 2 years we lived there. My bedroom faced the graveyard but that didn't bother me any. Everything that could go wrong, did, while we lived there, tho. It wouldn't surprise me if the whole row of tenements had some crazy backstories that gave the flats weird vibes/bad luck.

@eerieedinburgh No problem. It was in a pub called the hare and hound in Fishlake outside of Doncaster, my aunt was the landlady there. I went downstairs when the pub was closed and there was a flesh and blood women stood in the entrance, she looked ill and a bit funny looking but I assumed it was a cleaning lady. Until my aunt and cousin told me it was a ghost they and some patrons had seen. It genuinely changed my life. The old person's home in Irvine though would creep anyone out. Soon as you walk in there you feel it instantly, my skeptic dad at the time wouldn't even go in there. Hopefully the buildings still there, it was decades ago now.
