Gianni Raimondi, in really EXTRODINARY VOICE, as if he was singing back to the 1950s!!! He sings two Neapolitan Songs: “ Dicitencello Vuie “ and “ O Paese d’o Sole “ Hope to enjoy!!!

I studied with Maestro Raimondi. His voice in our lessons was always such a joy to hear up close. His squillo would shake your soul. Riposa in pace.

This man sounds natural and incredible. He is one of the greatest vocally. He and Pavarotti seem to sing with similar techniques, and both are large, strong looking people who can really put something behind the voice.

I loved Raimondi in all his Callas pairings, he always completed her so well ( i think he was amazing with her in Bolena and nobody else would have been better)

Thrilling as ever! If you want to experience Gianni Raimondi at the height of his powers look for the recording of his 1963 performance of Arnoldo in Rossini's Guglielmo Tell.(on KZbin) It is both lyric and heroic and he easily nails every high C and C#. He started as a lyric, even leggero, but, like Di Stefano, pushed on to heavier roles. He is well represented by his Rodolfo in the movie of La Bohéme with Mirella Freni, conducted by Von Karajan. I saw him as Cavaradossi at the Metropolitan in 1968, holding his own against the formidable Tosca of Birgit Nilsson. Apparently, he never ventured beyond the Italian repertoire, except for an occasional Faust in Gounod's original setting.

Sei stato il più gioviale e bel Rodolfo nella boheme.
WOW! The vibrato is totally healthy, especially for a 70 year old man. Many young singers, including me, have way too much vibrato.

He sounded much older than he did in the 1950s but the cleanness and strength of that voice and projection did not even compromise minimally. This is overwhelmingly enjoyable singing indeed!

What's the big deal about singing at 70? Pavarotti and Domingo did that too. Of course Domingo was singing baritone by then. I think Gedda switched to comprimario parts so he could stay on stage. Someone look it up. I sang until I was seventy also. Not at this level of course. God told me it was time to quit. I was in a Traviata rehearsal and I had to leave to drive to the Emergency room. In my experience the vocal cords were fine but I couldn't sing the long lines anymore. No air. Too many breaths.
