This scene where Rock Hudson gives James Dean the money is perfect. It's played as a stationery long shot with no cuts -- and no close-ups -- so we see nothing but the characters' contempt for him.

Texas became a free and independent Republic in 1836. We were not part of any one. Not part of Mexico or the United States. A free and independent Republic for nestly 10 years. (March 2, 1836 to February 19, 1846). The only other Republic in US history was the Bear Republic of now California. It lasted 25 days.

This was such a racist movie. They treated the Hispanic community with contempt. Other than that it was great. Thank God times have changed for the better.
