Just for anyone that is thinking of getting a millipede please do research this enclosure if far too small depth= has to be length of the millipede width= double the length of your millipede 👌 this is a cool video just wrong information sadly
@JohanExoticGlobal2 жыл бұрын
It has been a while since I made this video and I have learned a lot since! I defiantly do agree with you, the depth is way to short! I have to make an update video with more correct information! This is also one of the reasons why I love youtube, we can teach each other. Thank you for that comment and thank you for not bashing me! :)

My first invert was an african millipete when I was 16... He always tapped his feelers onto the door when I came home from school so I took him out and let him crawl onto my desk and myslef till he got tired and rolled up on my lap and slept... Missing Black Damon so much

Can you use leaves and dirt you find outside of your home? There’s a lot of trees where I live so I was curious. If not wear can you buy safe to use leaves/dirt for them?
@JohanExoticGlobal3 жыл бұрын
You should be able to use them. But to be save you should treat them first. I heard some people heat them in the oven. And I heard some people put them in black plastic bags and leave them in the sun. For how long and what temperature I'm not sure. But yes, it should be fine. I bought mine from a German website, but I plan to start to collect my own leaves! :)

Do they not require any heating, like lamp or mat?
@JohanExoticGlobal3 жыл бұрын
I do not use extra heat. If you do, then I would use a heat mat and make sure it's placed on the side of the enclosure and NOT under. :) But again, I'm not sure if they need one. I have it quite warm in my animal room :)

You should name the millipede milli or Gigi
@your_local_reptile67003 жыл бұрын
I was talking to a breeder today they told me you need about 10" of substrate for A.gigas I own 2 of them and only had 5" which I am now changing. That really doesn't look like enough. You also want the container to be 2x the size of the millipede width and length and that deffo isn't big enough, Thats actually pretty cruel.
@JohanExoticGlobal3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking your time to leave a comment. I do agree that he could use a bit more substrate. I did provide him with a lot more substrate in the another enclosure that i kept him in for months, yet it preferred to use the hide and never dug down ones. From my researched I have found out that 10-20cm of substrate should be fine. I strongly believe hat there is never ONE perfect way to keep a pet, there are many good ones. Especially if you compare breeders with regular keepers when it comes to reptiles for example. But I do agree that he could use an upgrade and get a larger enclosure.
@your_local_reptile67003 жыл бұрын
@Johan Exotic I completely agree with you that there isn't just one way to look after a pet, which is why we see animals spread out across regions. I also have a millipede that much prefers its hide over burrowing, It will only do so if its molting it will dig out a chamber. I guess becaue I keep mine in 100L rug when I see people using something smaller, I forget that using such a big enclosure is my own preferrence, I also want to make sure my millipedes the absolute longest they can. Thank you for the great incite and a good read. I revoked my dislike because you're a genuinly nice person and I was being hot headed

@@your_local_reptile6700 ahh! i see! Thank you for your comment, and I will make sure to plan for a upgrade for my little dude! :)
@iantru99293 жыл бұрын
I kept mine anywhere from 5 inches to 10 inches of substrate, never borrow really, mine likes to curl up in a small decaying log. All they need is a hide really. Giant species don't borrow as much as the tiny ones.
