It doesn't care. A bigger tank would mean cleaner and more stable water, but it literally just wants a place to burrow and some rocks for cover. They never leave their burrow unless looking for food or another shrimp to bone, then they go back home.

Some people are so used to prestine display reef tanks they forget that nature is inherently "dirty" and only under human care, supervision and technology can we make it asthetically perfect. The algae on the back wall doesnt matter; it might actually be healthy.

I like how smart the mantis shrimp is. They truly prey on their targets. Notice how he struck the cray’s claws when approaching from the front, went after the main shell when attacking from the rear? He only wanted the meat from the claw first. As soon as he was done, that cray would’ve been consumed afterwards. His whole plan was to disarm the claws first. Very smart creatures for their size.

I don't typically care for Crayfish, and I understand the purpose of feeding your pet Mantis Shrimp, but this video struck me with sympathy only because of how I depressingly fascinating it was. The Mantis is brutal, and that's a completely foreign environment for the Crayfish, so watching it knowing resistance was futile just sent my brain into a whole spiral of thought. Watching these animals with minimal brain functions format plans and chains of visible understanding within their reactions just blew my mind. Reality is harsh, but to witness it is something entirely different. It's 5 AM. 💀👌🏻
