I just got my first Giant Plated Lizard about 3 weeks ago and he's the most incredible animal I have in terms of sociability. He gets a lil skiddish when you come *to* his enclosure, but after he remembers who I am he walks right up to me and climbs my arm. He's also really responsive to petting which is awesome!

I deployed with the US Army to Iraq in the north eastern area of the country near the Iranian border. While exploring the camp i encountered a pair of plated lizards foraging in the grass around a ruined building. Day time highs were around 125 degrees F for 6 months with nightly drops to 100 degrees F. They were foraging late afternoon 5 to 6 pm when temps were starting to wain. Highest recorded temp 139 degrees F. Uromastyx, Mediterranean house geckos, and sand boas were some of the other species i saw there too.

@@MrMonsterjesus But the one you get is probably Wild Caught/Field Collected
@Freytraz5 жыл бұрын
@@patricknyhan7491 The two great problems for WC animals (relative to keeping as a pet, not Ambiental/ecological) are that (i) capture is not necessarily done in a good/healthy manner (some tropical reef fish are collected with poison, for example); (ii) transport not necessarily is done in a good/healthy manner (overcrowding, heat stress, dehydration, to long etc). A lesser problem is that animals may have parasites or diseases. But if you are collecting yourself, you can easily overcome the issues with capture and transportation. The question is then if it right to capture the animal for a pet: If it is moral, if it is legal, if has an impact on the environment etc. :)
@MrMonsterjesus5 жыл бұрын
@@patricknyhan7491 I am not sure, but I thought that there are at least two breeders in Europe. One in Germany and one in Switzerland. I guess that there are just some differences between America and Europe. I was also looking into girdled lizards and they are pretty much impossible to get here, but they seem to be available in America.

Would be neat to see a video on the collared lizard. They’re the state lizard here in Oklahoma and I would always try to catch them and keep them as pets as a kid, luckily my parents never would have let me keep one. Hey Clint, I had a wonderful Northern Blue Tongue Skink for 7+ years who passed away in March. So then I was researching these lizards as they were compared to BTSs and was watching videos from a guy who had one for over 6 months who posted videos of his progress in caring for him on youtube.... then I see an ad for the lizard on Craigslist and it turns out to be the same guy whose videos I was watching, so I knew the animal was healthy. I have now had him for almost a month. The lizard is as you said, "shy". When I reach in the aquarium for it, it always runs away and when I'm holding it I can tell it still views me as a threat and is very scared and is very tense. I'm handling it once a day for about 10-15 minutes and talk to it very calmly with much praise. I did have a neat experience yesterday in that I held him under the water faucet for a little while to give him a little rinse and then I put him in a towel, reclined back on my sofa, and pet him through the towel for 10-15 minutes. It was so neat to see that when I lifted up the towel, he was asleep! Then it woke up and once I put it back into the aquarium, it quickly scampered away from me to its hide-a-way as if it just forgot that it fell asleep on my lap. I'm just wondering what your thoughts are as to if it may ever become more relaxed with me and not so skiddish and if that might ever happen, how long it might take for it to adjust and any hints you have to help me along with it. Thanks for your videos!

This is my favorite lizard. Their scales look like ancient armor, and they are very cool. And they are often not ferocious, and usually seldom bite people. These lizards used to be an easily available species in my country and were not treated with much care. Nowadays, though, it's improved. These lizards are really great and I would like to recommend them.

I got bruce free from petsmart, he had to get his half his tail amputated, and is missing half is poor toes. He is a nervous nelley. But has never ever bit me, or shown an aggression. He is a good boi. I am biased because gerald my bts is my child. I love him like no other. Both are amazing pet lizards, the only hard thing about plated is not a lot of care info is there for them. I got one from a guy that had them before me, when i read it I was pretty bang on with care. Great video! Love these guys are featured!

I had one of these when I was a kid. Got it when I was 7 and had it till I left for college. Had to give it to another family as my parents did not want to care for it. It lived 25 years. In all that time it never tried to bite. It would run away some times when I tried to handle it but never bite. One thing it would do is it would puff up for about the first 10min of having it out of the cage. I loved this lizard and if I could get another one for my older kids I totally would. I will be keeping an eye out for a captive bred one.
@Honest-joe5 жыл бұрын
This lizard looks cool but not for me. My ideal lizard would be something of a similar size or slightly larger, feeding wise either veggies only, seeds, or meat like dead mice but no insects, something that doesn't mind humidity like how corn snakes are generally ok with generic house humidity, something that's placid/"friendly" and is good for handelling, and finally, something that is captive bred and doesn't drop its tail. I do have a corn snake currently, but I would really like a lizard, something with legs and isnt a tortoise/turtle. There doesn't seem to be a lot of creatures around that match this criteria unfortunately.

I am a teenager, and over the past year, I have been researching Bearded Anoles. I love them SO MUCH! So to try and convince my parents to let me get one, I wrote a whole paper on their care, pros/cons, etc. I finally brought it up to them last week (it was right after dinner, so they were in a good mood), and before I could even finish my sentence, my mom said "No, Absolutely not." I asked why, and they said because we have a 19 year old cat and our Quail (we are raising Bobwhites to release in our woods to eat ticks). These two animals combined take up ~1/2 hour of my time each day, and she wouldn't believe me when I said that these guys are fairly low maintenance. How can I change their minds? Could you please do a whole video on the Cuban False Chameleon so that I can show them how Stinkin' Rad they are? Thanks Clint!

We got "Thor" a year and a half ago. He was wild caught and it was a rough beginning. We were told he was 9 months old, very dehydrated and timid. He is in a 75 gallon tank and loves his hammock and large stone hide, which he also crawls on top to use as a basking area. They are shy!! Once I get him, he will crawl under my neck/chin and rest only shoulder, almost cuddling... It's just getting him. (Very fast) only problem we still have is feeding. He doesn't care for crickets much. Won't touch a dubia roach, and not healthy to give pinkie rats and super worms often. Any suggestions? He will refuse to eat, if I allow him, for over 2 weeks if I offer the crickets or roaches. He does eat a small amount of greens (offered daily) but I know he needs protein. Please help??
