OK, for everyone that doesn't know, the reason they are closing the female plant is to make sure that no other pollination gets in there. It's pretty easy to go around with a Q-tip and pollinate all your squash plants. However, if you leave the flowers open and they are visited by other bees, you can't guarantee the continuation of the line. Once pollination occurs, the fruit that grows will be true, but the seeds inside that fruit will possibly be cross pollinated.

I use as many male flowers as I can for zucchini. Each grain of pollen from a flower has two sex cells and will make two seeds. Multiple flowers (like a bee would carry) will give each mellon or tomato or anything a variety of genes in each fruit or vegetable.

@@axuwu6939 yes. I've eaten it when I was a child and it was my favorite. Until moved to a new country and it doesn't sell the petals anymore. I'm quite sad. But do put some salt and black pepper on the egg mixure then wash the yellow petals before dipping the yellow petals on egg mixure and fry em in medium heat oil (not too hot if you don't want to burn yourself.) And with rice you'll continue on eating until all the petal fry are gone. It's yummy.

I did the same thing with my zucchini because I didn’t see any bees around. Except for the tying up, but I got several male flowers for a couple’s of females, they became huge, 17” in length and 15”diameter!
