So lucky to have an upbringing that taught you all of this. I wish I knew half as much as you guys. I live in West Palm Beach and don’t know much about fishing, but sure wish I did. You guys are awesome!

Fun fact, Porbeagle are related to the Shortfin/Longfin Mako Shark, Salmon Shark and Great White Shark. These sharks are combined to make the shark family known as the Mackerel Sharks.

Congrat Brook into bringing in your first tuna. To bad it was a short. I lived in Sandwich for many years and use to launch my boat out of there daily. If you plan on coming back see if you can hookup with someone to go after football tuna (100-150 lbs.) and go after them spin casting with a 7 foot rod with a Penn 9500SS reel Their a blast on light gear and will pull the line off so fast the drag washers start smoking. Glad you weren't down wind of the whales when they blew. I've had them come up next to my boat and blow and it's a smell you'll never forget.

Put 3 treble hooks in that 600 pound sun fish and he will come jumping clean out the water, we snagged one in a king fish tournament. One morning 80 miles off Savannah, the humpbacks were jumping clean out the water. Really stunning to see something so big come clean out the water. I fished 4 or 5 days off PEI and was skunked too.

Windy, chilly, sprinkling? Welcome to New England. 😀 Was this Cape Cod Bay? Years ago I worked at a seafood coop and was in charge of meeting fisherman at the pier to unload bluefin. One night around 2am I got the call. Around a 1000 lb bluefin. The fisherman had been up for 2 days. I could tell by he threats to my life they hurled at me if I dropped their prize tuna. I’m here writing this comment, so I must not have dropped that tuna. 😀.

Great video. Totally different than Florida fishing. Great shots of the whales and Mola. We probobly hit a whale heading out tuna fishing in a tournament one time off Long Island. We tried to see if it was injured but did not see anything. My friend's boat was pulled out of the water after the day of fishing and there was $3K damage to one of the shafts. A dead whale floated up on the beach with blue bottom paint the following week. You guys had a great experience.

How are you rigging the mackerel to the hook.
@wittywilf4 жыл бұрын
When I saw the grill on the boat I thought they were going to cook some mackerel and I got a bit nostalgic. I went shark fishing about 25 years ago and the only thing we caught were mackerel as the bait. They were delicious cooked on the grill. On holiday in Portugal I saw this seriously old guy chuck some charcoal in a wheelbarrow, put some mesh over it and cook sardines out the front of his house. I wanted to buy some but they were his dinner. I went to the beach at 6.30am the next day and bought some fish straight from the boat. They weren't just fresh they were alive.

Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could kzbin.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.
