I wholeheartedly agree! In 1986 I saw a 185 lb. Bonds take a Doc Gooden fastball to dead center for a homerun. That has to be natural talent.

He went to same high school as tom brady and lynn swam( Serra). It is an expensive all boys catholic school that produces the finest of boys that turned into men, but not just for athletes. Bonds is talking about Serra h.s. and it hits home. San Mateo (Silicon Valley) is not a place with a lot of children. It has the most expensive zip code( Atherton).

I remember meeting Barry Bonds in the late 80’s when I was a kid, at the Melodyland Christian Center in CA. He was signing autographs that day, and my cousin and I got one. Nice guy, and a good day for us. Definitely deserves to be in the hall. Best offensive player ever. Had Griffey Jr not gotten hurt so much toward the end of his career, I think he’d have been right there with Barry in the GOAT conversation. Either way, my two favorite players period.

Wow, what a great interview! This is not just for fellow Giants fans, this is an interview anyone who likes to hear from successful people should watch. As someone who is still trying to get success (been in the Navy, now at grad school), I think it was very impactful. I have always respected Barry Bonds #25 over the years, but now it's much greater. I'm glad his daughter is encouraging him to express how he really is and that he took his daughters word to heart. I shook your hand as a twelve-year-old kid in 1997 during On-the-Field Photo Day and I saw you hit #69 in 2001. Thank you for all the memories and inspiration, Mr. Bonds! Your greatness continues on.

I wish Barry would do more interviews because he needs to tell his story because his refusal to talk to the press has allowed the press to create a negative narrative of himself. Barry Bonds was undoubtedly a Hall of Famer before PEDs. He just wasn’t on pace for 762. When you break down his pre-1999 career and get into season averages and all that, you’d see that he was on pace for around 660-680 career homers.

Also, a resemblance with the way he handles fame and being an introvert. I get the privacy, but u gotta know that if you play a professional sport, introvert or not, they're (the media/fans) are coming at you. It would of been cool if he was told (by his mentors) on how to handle fame....not an easy thing, cause u can't please everyone. Good Luck Barry and any pro player on that journey!

He definitely has a nice side that I've seen in other clips & interviews. I always thought that his mood swings could be a sign of being bipolar and I don't say that as am insult. It's very common with people that are highly intelligent or gifted and I think he's both. Got a very sensitive side also that you see especially when he talks about the people that are close to him. Either way, it can't be easy to deal with what his level of sucess comes with day in and day out.

Barry was laser focused and on a mission. He didn't want to be just a great baseball player. He wanted to and knew he could shatter records.

@@Quantum3691 Yep. He evidently felt bad about the way he was rubbing his own teammates and tried to be more of a cheerful “good guy in the clubhouse” type. His performance dropped and they actually told him to go back to being “all business”, even if he came off as a prick. They got it. You see the same thing with golf. Everyone loved Arnold Palmer and the way he would interact with even the fans during a major tournament. Nick Faldo was known for being cold and distant with everyone on tour similar to Bonds. He said he tried to play a round like Palmer and be social ect., but he played terrible. You have to go with what works for you.

Pretty great conversation. I was always just a little lukewarm on Barry, but I feel like I understand and appreciate him that much more after watching this. He seems incredibly self-aware, and I really like how he was clearly confident in his talent but at the same time is able to recognize and acknowledge the advantages he had (growing up in a great community [he says], his dad, his mom, his godfather [Willie Mays!], etc.). Much respect for arguably the greatest baseball player of all time.

Never really been a fan of Bonds personally, but there is no denying he is a HOF'er with or without PED's. He was hitting the ball out before he even started using so much so he was an MVP before he went to the Giants. What held him back like some other PED users is that he didn't come clean when confronted about his alleged steroid use. The way he was treating people in his personal life as well as team members and the media did not help the situation either. If he does not get in the HOF he has no one to blame but himself.

Everyone always hated Barry because he was different. It never had to do with Steroids, all those people probably hated him before 2000 that where alive at the time. He was guilty of being a jerk in the court of public opinion. It sucks this era existed. Because Barry could maul the damn baseball and for the 90s kids even though everyone else took the ooze he was god damn Super Shredder. In AT&T Park! For all you whiners be glad he didn't play in in some sandbox otherwise he would have had 850+ career HRs.

He’s a very misunderstood guy. I wasn’t a fan of the roid usage, but he didn’t start it or promote it. I hate he’s been the scapegoat of that era and baseball thinks it can wash its hands and think “that’s that”. No. He’s one of the best ever. I hate that Hank Aaron is the one that had to be negatively effected because he’s one of, if not the all time greatest. But so is Barry. And the media made him out to be such a jerk all these years. Well, when you’re blaming a guy and blasting flashbulbs in his face making him the fall guy, shit can get a little tense. Should be in Cooperstown.

The reason Hall Of Fame voting is so frustrating to all of us I think regardless of the sport is that the fan consensus means so little. Every baseball fan I know nowadays wants Barry in the hall. Football went so far as to keep TO out for a few years because some voters didnt like his antics when anyone who watched him play knew if he wasnt a HOFer than nobody is. Let the fans who fuel the game have some say in the matter. Not some finite number of old dudes who bring extremely personal biases to their ballots
