Some lovely Boat Footage Del, looked like a nice day. I am very glad you managed to get help, you are 100% correct that a Toy Boat and Camera are not worth risking your life for..... but turning it in to a positive, I would suggest to your Wife that you need your own 1:1 boat for filming from 🤔😎

Yes, they do say the sea is a cruel mistress and as your story shows - it's very true even in seemingly innocuous conditions. It's such a shame that this wonderfully restored boat was lost at sea along with the footage to complete this video, but even so such an engaging film anyway. The way it was edited really captured the vibe of the comings and goings of this trade. I especially loved those onboard scenes looking back at the driver - they were super realistic and very satisfying to watch. Sadly stuff like this on KZbin is all to rare. Keep it going.

It is odd that good watchable content often goes relatively unrewarded in terms of numbers of views, whereas some bloke yelling at his dog gets tens of thousands per day! I'm so very glad that I took the backward-facing footage off the GoPro the day before the poor thing was lost at sea!

Great video Del, very educational on speedboats, geography & the risks of the sea. Glad you made it back safely. A lesson for us all. I've held off getting a boat for the local lake as it gets deep very quick & I'm not much of a swimmer. That certain motoring journalist does seem prone to accidents, so maybe that was an omen? The new boat ran well with excellent onboard footage. It really does have the look, sound & movement of a powerful boat.

Hello! First day of my unexpectedly extended life, and I'm taking stock of my priorities. I doubt I'll be recording any more speedboats in the sea... It's lakes and rivers for me from now on, and shallow ones at that! That boat was a delight to drive - it was a lovely hull, beautifully shaped with gorgeous handling qualities. It just took a thirty quid radio, an eighteen quid ESC and a steering servo to get it going.

Hello, Steve! Yes, I was fairly sure I'd had it for a while there. I did thank the two guys who pulled me back to shore at the time, but I feel guilty for sitting around retching and failing to get their contact details so I could thank them more coherently later. One thing;I packed enough buoyant material into the hull to ensure that it would float even when full of water, so I do keep wondering where the boat is now, where it'll end up and whether someone will eventually find it, washed up on some distant shore. I hope the GoPro is still in there if they do!

Del350K4 I think you can be forgiven for concentrating on breathing instead of collecting addresses at that point! Sounds pretty terrifying. But yeah, I wonder where it'll end up?! Also, because I crammed so much flotation material into the hull, I'm pretty sure it hasn't sunk; I think it must still be bobbing around in the ocean somewhere...

glad you're OK and boat wasn't a huge loss, it had some drive train issues as got. break out the foam board and epoxy-glass, you can scratch build something a lot faster. steering servo got water in it and got stuck, been there! always waterproof them, undo casing screws just enough to smear silicone into all joints, throw Vaseline or grease at the output was good enough back when, conformal coating would be better.
@Del350K43 жыл бұрын
I just know that you're right about this. There's one more twin screw hull with burned-out Rx/ESC board waiting in the shed for me to convert it, so I'll follow your waterproofing advice.

@@Del350K4 been loving RC boats since the 80's :) edit: another down+dirty quick+easy.. with everything plugged into it jam the receiver into a large balloon, a little grease at the wires and tighten+close the neck with a bit of string, is what we did before there was conformal coating, grab a dozen at a dollar store they're always useful.
@Del350K43 жыл бұрын
@@modelnutty6503 That's what I'll do. I've ordered a waterproof servo and ESC so it's just the receiver I'm concerned about. Because I made holes in the transom for the rudder linkage the much-mourned grey boat would spray water into its own hull whenever I went astern. You were right to say that it had driveline problems - there was quite bad vibration at high revs, as can be seen in the on board footage.

@@Del350K4 its those straight hard shaft couplers, near impossible to get the motor and drive shaft true with them on anything. a U-joint can be off a couple thousandths, 1-2 degrees different, and still run smooth+quiet. this morning shared same tip to David (RunThatRC) is getting a lot of noise from a little 14 mm jet pump drive. old Dumas style drive cups with a nylon dog bone between is even easier to deal with if there's room, they can be off a bunch and work, but better if really near straight. steering push-pull rod wire.. the rubber from an eye dropper makes a nice boot, offset it a little inboard (wire near touching outboard when straight), when its turning it'll near touch inboard with arm throw. a little different but still similar for a servo laid flat. you'll see it for trying it, give a squirt of grease inside the tip where the wire exits, keeps water out really well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXW5XqF9mZKgoLM all THAT from a little 180 motor?! oh heck yeah! wouldn't even cost 10 bucks to make it happen, ROCKS!

@@modelnutty6503 I suppose a couple of WPL UJs would work. I love the idea of using the rubber boots from medicine droppers to exclude water from the servo linkage holes in the transom. That airboat's spectacularly fast! All that speed from a single 180 motor!
